Title: Hatred...a supposed video game in development
Post by: steve58 on October 17, 2014, 01:40:50 PM
:o  Well, if video gaming doesn't have enough of a bad rep, then this "game" in development will certainly make things worse...much worse.   Hopefully its just a very bad joke.  If it ever makes it to market, I can just imagine the news coverage and congressional hearings...

WARNING:  there is a video in the following article.  Its is definitely NSFW, violence to the extreme

http://www.destructoid.com/this-game-about-mass-murder-of-innocents-is-not-okay-282656.phtml?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Destructoid+%28Destructoid%29

...from their website:
Quote
Hatred is an isometric shooter with disturbing atmosphere of mass killing, where player takes the role of a cold blood antagonist, who is full of hatred for humanity. It's a horror, but here YOU are the villain. Wander the outskirts of New York State, seek for victims on seven free-roam levels. Fight against law enforcement and take a journey into the antagonist's hateful mind. Gather equipment of the dead 'human shields' to spread Armageddon upon society. Destroy everything on your way of hunt and fight back when it's disturbed...

...just don't try this at home and don't take it too seriously, it's just a game. :)

The question you may ask is: why do they do this? These days, when a lot of games are heading to be polite, colorful, politically correct and trying to be some kind of higher art, rather than just an entertainment – we wanted to create something against trends. Something different, something that could give the player a pure, gaming pleasure. Here comes our game, which takes no prisoners and makes no excuses. We say 'yes, it is a game about killing people' and the only reason of the antagonist doing that sick stuff is his deep-rooted hatred. Player has to ask himself what can push any human being to mass-murder. We provoke this question using new Unreal Engine 4, pushing its physics (or rather PhysX) systems to the limits and trying to make the visuals as good as possible. It's not a simple task, because of the game's non-linear structure and a lot of characters on the screen. But here at Destructive Creations, we are an experienced team and we know how to handle the challenge!

I would say the graphic nature and detail in the killing. Also, the objective of GTA is not to kill innocent civilians. There is a story in GTA and you can play it as ethically/morally as you like.  In Hatred, the goal is to murder innocent people. That is never your objective in GTA.

Few things in entertainment disturb me. This trailer did. This is a game that should not be made in this day and age.

Doesn't really seem any different than the Postal series in terms of tone.  Not interested in it myself but I don't care if they make it or not.

I think there should be a line drawn in the kinds of violence that a developer depicts in a video game. I do not support governmental regulation in this field, but it is unfortunate that some people will never recognize that there are some things that should just not be gamed.

Is it wise to depict gratuitous acts of wanton violence in a game that actually encourages and rewards the player for carrying out these acts? Yes, its only a game, but increasingly, it seems that many young people are unable to appreciate the difference between fantasy and reality.

I've never really been a fan of punishing the law abiding out of fear of what the weakest among us might theoretically do in the future.  It's the same argument gun grabbers use.

Amen.

The marketplace will punish them. Moms and dads can boycott buying them.

But let them be sold.

I obviously completely agree with this. But I do not think this situation is the same. I guess what I am trying to say is this is not a product I would buy and its a product I hope most would avoid.

It looks total crap  :-X

There have been studies done which provide evidence to suggest that the more people are exposed to something, the less shocked they are by the "something" in question, be it violent sex, wife beating, hurting animals...

One example (tame example albeit) is film certification and why it has been getting lax over the years. What scared a 16 year old back in the 1980's doesn't scare a 16 year old now. More sex and violence in 15's and even some 12A's than there were in 18's. And is the XXX still in use? That was the worst of the worst from what I recall...borderline banned.

^It is total crap.  Unfortunately keeping stuff like this off of the PCs of today's kids is almost impossible.  They could put any kind of rating (Adults Only, etc) and today's tech-savvy kids will still be able to access it.

^ This will especially happen if you tell them that they can't have it.

But did it really scare them or was it just overprotection from the parents ?

No. I mean when you were 16, 17, 18...watching a scary movie was, well, scary. And it was because you weren't exposed to it. But as de-certification has come into being, kids are exposed to it earlier.

And I'm mentioning scary because that's what you were talking about - but the general rule does apply - the more you are exposed to something "traumatic" the less it bothers you.

It was some time ago - so my memory of the details is fuzzy...but I believe that's what the findings suggested.

And of course that's a sweeping statement. It will likely depend on the mental makeup of the individuals.

Pretty much this entire crew could use some make up for their mentalness.
