I'm going to be playing "set up the new table in the man cave so you can leave board games out in a cat- and child-free environment for an extended time" and then I'll be setting up something big just because I can! mwuahahahah! :2funny: :2funny:
and if y'all piss me off about not having some tunes, I'll post some Rebecca Black for your musical enjoyment :knuppel2:

Scourge of War seems to be my flavor this weekend.
Warlock. In preparation for the dismantling of Banzai_Cat. That is, if he shows up for his beating ;)
We really need a schedule for who gets to start the Friday thread....
I managed to actually do almost everything on my list last week, going to try and make it two in a row.
Command - More scenario work. Spent a good portion of last Sunday plotting out he locations of former soviet air bases in Google Earth. Now I need to find out what ones I'm going to use as targets in my RSR Dreamland scenario and bring them into the game.
Wasteland 2 - RPG of the year IMO. The games forced me to do a ton of save scumming, usually only a few minutes back, and the story is really cliche so far, but there's something about WL2 that's got me hooked.
Xenonauts - Starting another new game with some mods I've never used before. I'm suffering a little bit of the The Elder Scrolls syndrome, where I'm constantly starting a new game to try our new mods. This time I'm not even going to look at the Xenonuats modding forums until I finish the game.
Kerbal Space Program
Distant Worlds AAR
With how shitty my week as been, a few hours of mindless demon / hell spawn killing in Diablo 3 might be in the works as well. CK2 Charlemagne is a possibility as well.

I always had to spend more time researching historical scenarios than actually working on them in various game editors. >:(
Has anyone done specific period/area map templates that already have some bases located on them for CMANO yet? That kind of stuff always made it pumping out scenarios notably faster.

For me research is one of the things I really enjoy but most of my play time as been creating scenarios in editor mode on an ad hoc basis. One of the things I love doing is loading up one of my US carrier battle group import files, load up the Kola peninsula bases and defenses, add in some opposing air craft and ships, and then just hit play and see what happens. Also done similar things for other countries defenses. Taking out a countries defenses with a battle group is one thing, doing it with a SSGN or two is in some ways more fun.
I was going to release the bases I had plotted out as a import file consisting of single unit airfields. I built the airbase at malminkle (yes, Clancy got it right, there really was an airbase there) as a multiple unit air base in GE and was going to release that as an import as well. I'll be building out the other air bases as multiple unit airbases on an as needed / time permitting basis. If you haven't already, check out the stock import / export files. There's probably a file or two that will give you a head start for most scenarios.
blh42 has done some amazing import files to. World and US cities for both the CWDB and DB3000, World Airports, ans US bases and squadrons. blh42 Imports (http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3547843)

lol - You're normally meant to start off telling people what
you're playing :uglystupid2:
F1 2013 - got another race to do this weekend.
Assetto Corsa - try and get the second part of my career underway
World at War:Blood and Bridges continue my AAR before I forget the rules again (slow going because taking photos at night results in poor quality)
Steel Beasts - this Sunday - definitely.
Civilisation V because the new release reminded me I had it ;)
Alien Isolation Ive been staying away, wanting to play it at night...but The Walking Dead series and Homeland and Gotham and....have all been keeping me from playing at night...but definitely tonight. I might even have a few beers to pish myself.
WoT - As usual
FM2015 - 2 week early access :)
Beyond Earth - If above gives me any spare time left
is your WoT handle the same?
Trying to finish the Omerta campaign...last mission...tough...Michigan Street....need all my gang.
I also have a game of Master of Orion going on....head to head with Psilons.
I finally finished my Xenonauts campaign so now it's on to my Hobbits campaign in Age of Wonders III.
Hopefully we'll get some more PBEM turns in for Pride of Nations but things are screwed up right now and I can't make the game recognize orders from UCG or Tuna.
ya sure cause that name brings up nothing.

Not directly. We just use the hex all over the site so I thought a thread icon would be cool.
That MP game of Warlock is the second-worst starting position I've had, including all of my single-player games. If I get killed I'mma blaming that, so prepare yourselves for when I go down. :P
Otherwise...I'm prepping for my conference in Vegas next week and worrying about minor minutia such as going sans cash, but I suppose that will just keep me out of the Bunny Ranch.
I'm hoping I can take a game or two but I'm probably going to have to go with a carry-on bag and not a full-size one for check-in, so I don't know if I'll even have room for that.
I WANT to take Field Commander Rommel, Cruel Necessity (have had it for months and not played it once yet), Ottoman Sunset (ditto), and Phantom Leader with me. Phantom Leader is easily the monster of the three and I doubt it's going anywhere. CN is pretty large too. FCR only takes up half a box worth of space so if I pack creatively in another means...OS is pretty packable I think.
I'm already driving myself crazy. :idiot2:
I still hope to make it to the MP game Sunday morning. I have a lot going on that day but I will set the alarm Sunday morn so I can let youse guys kick my ass.

Tracking down all the bases in a scenario's area was always a big time sink so it's good to see there are resources to help get a head start.

Nothing but Civilization Beyond Earth as far as the eye can see!

BC your avatar is not showing up for me, FYI.
Star my sister looks just like me, but with hair. You will enjoy.
After getting bitchslapped by AoW III I may start a sandbox game. Definitely starting a campaign of Shadow of Mordor. Rome 2 Macedon and Armenia both beckon. And the new Wings game is calling to me as well.
Lessee...
CM:RT with Judge and PanzerDe. The former is wrapping up in a way that would have made Sam Peckinpah proud. The latter presently involves tanks hunting for each other in forests...which two geniuses thought THAT would be a good idea?
A couple of CM:BN games.
P&S with PanzerDe...note to self: volunteering to be the French at Pavia goes down in the "bad idea" column.
Campaign: Leipzig for AAR purposes
Grimrock II with the boy...discovered that the AI has figured out the "run for the nearest closable door" trick and will send MOBs around behind you to cut off your retreat. Wow! This is about the only intersection with anything I'm thinking of doing this week-end game-wise! I might play some Grimlock II.
Other than that: BoS, DCS, Spintires, boardgames and the eternal WitpAE PBEM. The reserve-plane auxiliary carriers are starting to arrive!
But the Japs still have maybe 18 carriers of various sizes or roughly 2.5 KBs. I have 12 counting the Long Island. That's August 1942 without Coral Sea or Midway.
I'm still making very slow progress in the Sea Lion scen. for Decisive Campaigns WtP. I love this game because I don't need the keyboard to play. I can just kick back and use the mouse. If a game's going to put it's digital foot in my ass, as this one frequently does, then at least I can be comfortable while it happens. 8)
This weekend will be all Beyond Earth. So far, so good.

I decided to torture myself this weekend by seeing if I could get the STEP mod system to work for Skyrim. Has anyone else given this a try? http://wiki.step-project.com/STEP:2.2.9 (http://wiki.step-project.com/STEP:2.2.9)
I spent about 3 hours on this last night and got, I dunno, 10% through the installation process. It's kinda effing insane how elaborate modding has become for some games... perhaps TES games especially.
All I know is, if I can actually get this all to work in a stable, playable way, I'll count that as 'winning a game 'in its own right. It's sad that I have spent more time modding TES than actually playing it....
I don't know about that Skyrim mod...I did the 'Live Another Life' mod and the 'Extra Encounters' one without issue...is STEP through the Steam Workshop as well?
It's kinda confusing. STEP's not actually a mod -- it's a procedure for installing a s**tload of mods and utilities in a way that (presumably) should not lead to conflicts / instability. The mods are meant to 'enhance' everything from without altering vanilla gameplay, or at least not too much anyway.
Also it's meant to setup a base enhanced install which can then be modified with Packs of further mods.
I like the idea a lot, and may fiddle with it soon!
Tonight, though, I need to finish my 10-year compiled catchup post for my CK2 AAR; and tomorrow there will be nieces. Lo, the birthday of the microniece approaches and tomorrow shall be fulfilled! ;D
JD - live by the AssCreed, die by the AssCreed.
I'm still rudderless in my gaming pursuits.
On the table:
Want to learn Mage Wars and Bloody April.
Should finally get my two Great Battles Of History titles in today from GMT (ancient Greek/Persian and Sengoku Jidai battles). So one of those may get some attention instead.
Paint boardgame minis. Still halfway through doing all my Descent heroes, Star Trek Fleet Captain ships (Federation and Romulans left). Also a bunch of Cold War era jet minis for CY6: Jet Age/Star & Crescent pack that never get painted because I still need to glue the matching magnets onto them and their stands (which I hate). :buck2:
I've been feeling like I have only heaped a bunch of chores on myself with all this stuff so maybe I'll just unwind with some CK2 or WOFF/ROF instead.
:-[
Imperialism II - By popular voting of the Grogs I will be starting a AAR of Imperialism II. I hope to have this done in maybe a week as we try to become a trading powerhouse.
B-17 Queen of the Skies - The next mission in the Grog Community AAR of the B-17 Grog Wagon. We start mission 2 which we will attack an Airfield at St. Omer.
Crusader Kings II - I have a Wessex game going right now to claim my rightful pass as King of England. So the struggle continues to claim my place in history.
B-17 Mighty Eighth - I've played quit a few missions and will probably do this Strike Fighter Vietnam or FSX to get my flying fix in. Who know though.....
Other possibilities: Eador Genesis with New Horizons mod, Xenonauts, SM Colonization, Distant Worlds w/ Star Trek Mod.

I will be playing
Medieval Total War/Viking Invasion (with the XL Mod), as I stumbled across a fix that -- miraculously -- seems to have eliminated the CTD problem that plagues this old game so often (especially on newer rigs). I cannot possibly express my excitement enough. :D
Have started a new campaign as Aragon, with my immediate goals to add Navarre and Valencia to my domain. After that, the question becomes which better serves the cause of Christendom: Moving against the Almoravids and leaving my Catholic brethren in northern Iberia alone? Or do I try and unite my fellow Catholics first (and hope I can so quickly enough before the Almos can take advantage of our infighting)? Decisions, decisions...

Most likely my free time this weekend will consist of playing Beyond Earth, World of Warcraft, Diablo 3, and perhaps Age of Wonders III. I probably will spend time finishing up reading Foundation and Empire as well.
Martok this is an out of left field question but is Wallachia playable in the XL mod?
Tried the demo for Beyond Earth and despite my initial skepticism I liked it. Will I buy it though? Most likely but I might just hold out for the holiday sale and see if I can pick it up at a lower pricepoint.
Now do I spend the money on getting Mount and Blade Warband so I can play the 1776 mod for it?
In the meantime I'll probably play War Thunder and continue to build up my Japanese research tree. Then it will be a little bit of Shadow of Mordor and probably some Destiny. Last but not least I might try to fit in some Advanced Tactics Gold.
Edit: Forgot to mention that I want to pick up another copy of a dvd I have called "Gamera Legacy: 1965 - 1999" for my brother.
CK2 FTW!
I love this game. I can honestly say that they got everything right in this one. Yes, tactical battles ala M2TW would be nice, but since that's never been part of this type of game, it's hard to complain.

I've been looking for mods and standard games to play as the Wallachians against the Turks forever. None that I've found have been particularly engaging...Knights of Honor, a Civ V mod, an ancient M2TW mod, and an AoE II mod...none really scratched the fang.
Hmm...how about CKII as a Carpathian count? Is that possible?
Yup, it's possible. If you start a game in the Late Middle Ages, you can play as the Duke of Wallachia or the Count of Severin, a province in Wallachia.
Joyous day! I'd imagine it's damned difficult.
Transylvania (per se) exists as a duchy, though with somewhat different territories, at every bookmark; and Wallachia at almost every bookmark (except the 1066 one where that area is Pecheneg instead.)
Jan 1 1377 is the latest start date; Wallachia is back to being its own independent realm after having been overrun by the horde, and Transylvania is back to being part of Hungary again.
Vlad doesn't seem to be around at that date, nor his father, though he may show up later: Vlad 3 (Dracula) ruled as chief duke in the area mostly from 1450 through the early 1460s. (He was around when he wasn't Voivode, of course.)
Depending on what DLCs you've picked up, I wouldn't be too surprised if a path existed for him to actually become a vampire! -- he could theoretically become the anti-Christ or some other Satanic sorcerer with Dark Lord Beasts like anyone else, after all. ;)

Mike, Saberhagen's Drac Tape is one of my favorite books! :smitten:
The rest of the series was of variable quality, unfortunately. Every scene with Dracula, past or present, was gold; the rest ranged from Holmes&Watson (by far the best non-Drac chapters), to meh, to meth-addled.

You mean there isn't one under the creepy hood?

Never mind then. :)

A couple of good WitPAE turns for the Allies: Sank some subs and tankers and patrol boats without losing anything. Meanwhile in Grimrock II -- I'm so bad at Puzzles! But the game is better than Spintires (which is not saying much).
Spintires sucks? Dammit I've been eyeing that one.

Well, I like it. But for 30 bucks its kind of limited and I kind of doubt anyone else will like it. I sort of feel the same way about Grimrock II -- I'm amused, but it might be a bit easy for the average Grog.

Don't know about the Royals but he did play for my Feds (http://www.aarcentral.com/ootp/players/player_272.html) in OOTP. :P
lol. Awesome!
;D Very nice. Royals right now could use some karma channeling from Saberhagen's '85 campaign.
...prospect of yet another Giants WS championship... *yawn*...
What is it about Spintires that would turn grogs off?

No clear objectives. Lots of unclear interactions (with just about anything that's not a natural object -- rivers are pretty cool and even tree stumps have an intuitive side to them -- BUT how to load timber, how to get options etc, etc. -- not very clear -- how to switch camera modes etc. etc.).
It's a Russian or Ukrainian game, isn't it?
In my MTW/VI campaign, I *finally* managed to add Valencia and Navarre to my lands! 8)
Embarrassingly, however, I had to do several campaign restarts to pull it off -- and not because of a lost battle either, but because of El Cid: He's one of a handful of the game's "rebel" Hero generals, with some very decent stats; he's one of the best military commanders in the early game if you can get your hands on him. In addition, he essentially rules the "rebel" province of Valencia at the beginning of the Early period.
So when playing as either Castille or Aragon, I always send my emissary to bribe him, as that way I acquire both an excellent general plus a decent province. (Not to mention which, that way I don't have to fight the bastard either!) Problem is, the Cid is often very resistant to bribes (I gotta give props to the man for having principles)...and for some bizarre reason I've never been able to discern, no amount of save/reloads will change the result of the bribe attempt. So if he turns down my emissary, I must go back to the main menu and start a brand-new campaign all over again. :buck2:
But no matter. El Cid and his duchy of Valencia are mine now, and with his superior generalship (he get's a +2 command bonus when attacking), I successfully conquered Navarre as well. Now to determine my next move...
Didn't know he was in, is that 1 or 2?
Medieval Total War/Viking Invasion
You really dialled the clock back on that one?
He's kicking it old skool.
It's the same in M2TW. He's in Valencia but won't take a nickel to join you. So you got to ignore him or kill him. And he doesn't look anything like Charlton Heston.

That's the vibe I got. I am just not culturally able to figure out what to do with a truck in a forest.
In Spintires truck drives you?

Well it's always been my favorite title in the series (although I continue to enjoy
Rome II a great deal), and since I finally now got the game to play again without a CTD every other turn, I couldn't *not* give it a spin. :)

LOL!
A pity El Cid can't be bribed in Medieval 2. In fairness, though, I wonder if that was for game-balance purposes, as I've long wondered/suspected that having him as a general in your faction early on (should be persuade him to join you) could be a bit over-powered.
Of course, he generally doesn't come cheap in MTW/VI. I managed to snatch him up by offering my entire remaining treasury at the time -- some 5000 florins -- and considered that a bargain. Often times when your emissary actually reaches El Cid, you'll discover he's subsequently raised his price to ~9000 florins...and if he still rejects your bribe, later attempts will be even more lavishly expensive, depending on the quality of his army and/or Valencia province at the time of your bribe attempt. :o
