Title: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. CALL OF PRIPYAT is a real good game

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: CALL OF PRIPYAT, Im havin tons of Fun with this game 50% off at gog.com

Its a survival RPG type game, what impressed me was the free roaming over big Maps, you not just loading and fireing all the time, you go and do whatever you want !  and when I started reading the Manual it soon was clear this is an incredible and deep game, it runs on my old PC with-out a good graphics card installed.

The horror is great fun, but not to-much , and the action is as much as you want it, freely go anywhere. Im still new to it , but its my fav buy for a long while

and it seems there is a big MOD following

I played the first game in the series (liked it a lot) and have the others but have yet to play them.

EDIT: If you have not yet played Shadow of Chernobyl (or even if you have) you should check out the Oblivion Lost remake - soon to be released.  8)

Stalker is one of my all time favorite franchises.  Shadow of Chernobyl was an absolutely fantastic experience with one of the best combat engines I ever experienced in a shooter (some of my thoughts on the game here  (http://burkesjoystick.blogspot.com/2014/03/gazing-into-abyss-stalker-shadow-of.html)).  I haven't had a chance to really dig into Pripyat yet, but what I have seen of it makes me eager to start a new trip into the zone.   :)

I would also recommend the Metro series if you like Stalker.  While it isn't an open world as with with Stalker - it is more of a plot-driven experience - it is another excellent survival horror game that revisits many of the same themes as Stalker, including anomalies, mutants, and stalking (you even get to meet a stalker as you follow the plot).

Don't forget to read Roadside Picnic for the official backstory to these games.   ;)

I don't think so.

But they're similar in that they both encompass different Russian writers' weird post-apoc vision.

I'm pretty sure the Stalker series was based on an old Russian movie.. from the 70s or 80s IIRC (I saw it back in the 90s.. slow but pretty cool at the time for being weird).

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079944/

Think the full movie is up on YouTube somewhere.

The Metro series is based on book(s) of the same name.

Stalker (the game) is based on Boris and Arkady Strugatsky's novella, Roadside Picnic (http://smile.amazon.com/Roadside-Picnic-Rediscovered-Classics-Strugatsky-ebook/dp/B0087GJ5WI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416181486&sr=8-1&keywords=roadside+picnic).  The Soviet movie Stalker (http://smile.amazon.com/Stalker-Alisa-Freyndlikh/dp/B000I8OOG0/ref=sr_1_2?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1416181531&sr=1-2&keywords=stalker) is also based upon the novella.  The Metro game series is based upon Dmitry Glukhovsky's book of the same name, Metro 2033 (http://smile.amazon.com/METRO-2033-Dmitri-Glukhovsky-ebook/dp/B008W9ANW6/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1416181586&sr=1-1&keywords=metro+2033).  However, the team that made Metro 2033 (the game), 4A Games, is a splinter offshoot of GSC Game World, the devs who made Stalker.  This relationship becomes clear when you discover that despite Metro being based on a different if similar fictional setting from Stalker, Metro 2033 has many of the same game elements, including anomalies, mutants, radiation zones and yes, even a "stalker" that you encounter while you crawl your way through a portion of the above ground irradiated zone.  So the game Metro 2033 is really sort of a merger between two distinct pieces of Russian literature.  If you like Stalker (the game), I encourage you to check out Metro 2033 too because you'll be right at home in that setting, too.  8)
