As a child of the 60's myself this looks very interesting. Three night mini-series starting December 15th.
I first encountered the concept of the Orion nuclear powered ship while watching the original Cosmos. The concept was also used in "Footfall".

One of the female leads is Tricia Helfer of Battlestar Gallactica fame.
thanks for the heads up on this. O0
I have to admit that Tricia Helfer has had me eyeing my toaster some mornings while I drink my coffee and wait for my bagel. ^-^
Any hope I might have had went to ZERO after seeing it's on Syfy. :-\
I caught a promo on another channel when I was walking by the TV...hadn't heard about this before, but it looks good.

I hear ya, but SyFy has been talking about going back to their roots and abandoning the cheesy "B" movie crap they've been doing lately. I didn't keep the article, but there was a write up about some of their new shows and many looked promising. I'd love to see them change course.....the market can certainly support good science fiction programs.
Here's one article about the changes at SyFy

Yep, that was it. Mirth to the rescue!
Does it explain why they changed their name to that "SyFy" gibberish? :tickedoff:

There is no valid explanation for that.
I just want my God damn Cylon War already. :tickedoff:
Doesn't sound like it's going to happen anytime soon.

Nor is there one for
SS Doomtrooper, Sharknado, Komodo Vs. Cobra, Supergator, Sharktopus, Mongolian Death Worm, Mansquito, Frankenfish, Arachnoquake, ad nauseum, ad infinitum...

QFT.
I stopped checking to see what was on that channel years ago. This is a big part of the reason.
Admittedly, the preview for Ascension actually caught my eye when I saw it a short time ago. Maybe they're trying to bring us fine discerning sci-fi fans back into the fold now that their years-long joke has become so stale? I'm not saying they were amazing before, but shit got outta hand in multitudes.

Maybe not from that particular channel, though.

Wrong. Those names are clearly awesome. The products, not necessarily so much (though I've actually heard tolerable things about some of them).
Would that they had expended the same energy in coming up with a ridiculous new name for their channel if they didn't want to be serious about it anymore.
Well, we all know that whoever bought the channel legitimately wanted it to die for some reason that only makes sense to heartless accountants. Under those circumstances, we may one day be grateful for them being able to do as... 'well' (for want of a better word)... so as to convince the bean counters the channel is worth bringing back for serious sf/f material.
(They're probably also looking at the moderate to runaway successes of respectable-if-not-always-entirely-serious spec fiction on other cable networks and thinking WE COULD HAVE BEEN GETTING ALL THAT MONEY OURSELVES!)

Looks good, but sounds like a soap opera knock-off of a Doctor Who episode!

To be honest there have been some recent seasons of Doctor Who that got a little soapy for my tastes. It has never been a show that can afford a lot of self-examination and angst.
Yep. Let's hope Ascension is a good show, all around.
