what i would need is a Steam time freeze Button  ;)

when you play any of your Steam games, you press the button time stands still, well allmost .... you can play a few hours, and when you untick the button only a few minutes had past in Real Life  :D

Didn't that popular megamod add some randomness to it?

I got CMANO (aka Byzantium 1949) on Steam for 50 bucks.  I was in the beta but I thought I would take a break from modern naval war for a bit.  This time last year I was working on the 18th century.  Now I'm back.

Title: Re: Steam Thanksgiving Sale is underway
Post by: Huw the Poo on November 28, 2014, 05:50:34 PM
Probably worth that, Gus.  It's a decent stab at a Jagged Alliance kind of game and obviously the setting will appeal to some.  It will look dated now of course, but if I recall correctly it's fun to play and works fine on modern systems.

Are the Steam sale prices fluctuating during this sale, or are they static?

I ask because I thought for sure I saw Wargame Red Dragon on sale for $10, but now it's $20.  Maybe it was $20 all along.  Same with Spin Tires.

I'm not sure if it's like the Xmas sale where the prices change daily, or if everything is locked in.  Any help appreciated!

Yeah, I thought originally I saw red dragon listed for $9 until Dec. 1st so I held off to see what else came up, but now back to regular price.  Although not $9, you can get for $16 from GMG with the coupon code of B9J1L1-0AZCS9-S0IASV.  I am in no hurry so I will see what comes up at the xmas sales.

Tactics has some of my favorite in-game cinematics ever...and it was a pretty cool game at the time.  Curious to see how it weathers.

Boy has 4 hours into Goat Simulator and would have more if permitted.  Not to take it in any way seriously, but it does make the point that, at least at a certain age, there's something to be said for toys rather than games...

Thanks Grim.  Yeah, I was pretty sure I saw it in the $10 range, as well as Spin Tires.  When I saw them I added them to my cart but then got distracted before I checked out.  I didn't think I would impulse buy those games at $20 each...my impulse buy threshold is around $5-10.

Wargame Red Dragon was on one of their Daily Deals.

I suspect that means they will offer it at the Daily Deal price again at the end of the sale..?  You just gotta be quick, Grasshoppa.

Age of Wonders III for $13.59  --  yea, or nay?

(that is, for someone who is only lukewarm on this genre -- have Fallen Enchantress, and like the concept, but have only put in a few hours since I bought it a long time ago.  Have avoided Endless Legend, Eador, Warlock, etc. etc., just out of general lack of interest...)

^Definite YEA. Great game. Offers probably hundreds of hours of play and I've just scratched the surface. AI is solid too.

BTW Fallout:Tactics has dropped to 2.99 for those interested.

I've only played a few short stints in other fantasy 4Xs lately, barring some longer EL ones and my AOW3 campaign.  After buying the first AOW3 DLC I not only played it the longest by far, but actually stuck with the same campaign doing so.  That's a very good indicator with my gaming ADD.  O0

Got quite a number of hours into AOW3 and still plenty left to do, plus the next DLC will be the Undead race so this will probably end up being my most-played modern fantasy 4X.  And GOG sells it!  8)

AOW 3 is still on my to-do list.  :uglystupid2:
I do not own the DLC yet, but I guess that can wait until I have played some good amount with the base game first.
And being dutch I am proud to support a developer who's done a terrific job here in our little country. Not many well known games (Killzone and AoW are two notable exceptions) come from Orange-grounds. :)

Too bad I have so much other stuff I want to play as well. But the cold winter days are coming, so I am bound to be able to sneak some AoW 3 in soon-ish.

I think that game boils down to nostalgia.

Did you like the original Alien film? Did you think its tension made it the supreme movie of the series (as opposed to Aliens, with it's slam-bang action)?

Personally, the game scares the bee-fat-baby-Jeezus outta me. And I don't scare easily, but the Alien is one of the few things I've ever had nightmares over in my life.

You'll find a much more in-depth discussion of the game here:

Eh. It's just a DLC for SR3. In fact I prefer SR3 over 4.

My only purchase during this sale was Crysis 1 and it's expansion for $7. I've played a few hours and I'm already bored with it. The same thing happened when I got Crysis 2 last year. Something about it just doesn't catch my interest. Same thing happened with BioShock Infinite.

Thank goodness for Steam Sales

What in particular do you like to see in a fantasy 4x title?  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend AoW3 to most folks, but it can obviously depend on what exactly you're looking for too.

Yeah, I was a model of self-restraint -- although mostly because not a whole lot grabbed me.  Picked up the Endless Space add-on for $2, and that's it. Was tempted by Arma III and AoWIII... probably should've pulled the trigger on the latter but the big discount price was gone before I knew it.

Here's hoping (a) there will still be a Steam Xmas sale this month and (b) the offers are more enticing than what we got this time around...

I picked up Endless Legend and Endless Space and was tempted with F1 2014...but read it was a cut down stop gap to the new version and engine next year - so never bothered

I think I bought something else but can't think what....... :-\

However I have been playing (solidly for a couple of days now) Far Cry 3 which is a superb game. I had already completed it a year or more ago...that's how good it is.

Far Cry 4 can do one until UBI get their shite together and stop being fannies. I think I might pay them a visit  :knuppel2:

I can't make up my mind between Warlock 2, AoW III and Endless Leg Ends.
What in particular do you like to see in a fantasy 4x title?  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend AoW3 to most folks, but it can obviously depend on what exactly you're looking for too.

I just love Warlock, with 600+ hours logged. I would get W2 but the reviews I have read are not too encouraging, and that has put me off.

Yeah, W2 doesn't look completely worth it to me either. I get plenty of mileage out of W1 just from our MP games.

Agreed.

I enjoy both Warlock and Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes for different reasons (Civ-like gameplay vs. tactical and rpg elements). My hope is that AoW3 will give me a nice blend of what I like in both other games.

I've already started buying.

Oh, and we have some MH games for sale as well (nudge, nudge, wink, wink).

Chris--

But wait, what have you bought?  :D

So far...
Call of Juarez: Gunslinger which is insanely fun, like being in a spaghetti western.  Pure, cheesy entertainment.
Tomb Raider (the new one)
Planetary Annihilation

Splinter Cell: Blacklist (-75% today)
Papers Please
Just Cause 2
FTL

JC2 is some seriously unabashed 3PS fun on a multi-terrain target-rich map 400 miles square. Unreserved recommendation if you even distantly like the idea of grapple-gliding around like Batman as you hijack helicopters midair and dual-wield submachine guns.

FTL is maddening. I've not won it yet. But I try every so often.

JC2 is not a game.  It is a toy.  And a really good one.  I could care less about the meta story, but have dozens of hours put into it just exploring.  Easy purchase.

FTL is a game that, had it launched in the 80s, would have prevented me from graduating from college.  Digital heroin in a tiny, immensely aggravating, package.

Best,

Just Cause 2

I got some insane gut-wrenching laughs out of Just Cause 2, when I picked it up a couple years ago, on the cheap (like five dollars?).

While I never got on much with the Grand Theft Auto series, this one hit closer to the chaotic mayhem fun for me.  It's usually on sale dirt cheap and at that price it's worth some of that open world chaotic hilarity IMO, even if you don't end up actually following the mercenary missions and background story.

I haven't bought anything in the sale at all.
I only purchased new releases shortly before it began.
This sale was IMHO mediocre.
New and popular games were not discounted (enough).

After all the previous years of deep sales, I think most of us die-hards have bought up all the older stuff we were vaguely interested in.  Leaving us only waiting on the new titles anymore.

That was most definitely how I felt. I was wanting some of the more recent titles, but wasn't wanting them enough to pay what was being asked...

...yup, pretty much the same for me.  The only thing I picked up during the "sales" was the map DLC for Civ: Beyond Earth and it wasn't even part of any sales (but I did use a voucher @ GMG)...

p.s. and dimmit, I don't want to waste the Gamersgate Thanksgiving voucher, but I can't even find anything I want to spend $$ on with their so-called sale.  ???

I did ok...one pseudo classic for 2.99 (Fallout Tactics) and one new game for 25% off (Ryse: Son of Rome).

I waited until the very tail end of the sale to see if they'd take both main Skyrim DLCs down by at least 50%, and was not disappointed.

I didn't really expect significant discounts on newly released games, though, except by accident (which apparently happened but rarely). That isn't fair, give them time to earn their keep. 50% off for Alien Isolation was no joke, that's a ridiculously deep discount at the moment (though I still didn't bite as I had already spent too much on sales otherwise.)

...i was somehow able to keep strong and postponed AI impulse-buy to an Xmas-sale (didn't even rolled dices in the forum ;-) ) ....just not in the mood for survival horror atm
and my HDD and especially its Steam folder is full of things that i just only installed and playtested an hour or two or didn't had touched at all from the pool of all the last sales grabs
