Title: The Taliban Don't Wave
Post by: MIGMaster on December 05, 2014, 10:00:31 AM
Great book - finished it about a week ago:

http://www.amazon.com/Taliban-Dont-Wave-Robert-Semrau/dp/1118261186

My favourite line was when he was talking about fighting along US troops - he wrote something to the effect: "I loved the Americans, they were great to fight alongside, they'd give ya the shirt off their back - they just tried to kill you sometimes."

He then goes on to tell the story of how his unit and the Afghan troops they were training got lined-up by an A-10 while on patrol. As  the a-10 turned and was coming in low for a gun pass he got everybody to wave like mad at the pilot - it saves their assess - he then goes on to tell the Afghans if you get lined up by aircraft wave like crazy, 'cause the Taliban don't wave. Great read.
