I suppose this could be seen as jumping the gun, but since Christmas is on Thursday, I didn't want to be too late!
Gaming-wise, I'll be spending time with
Rome II, playing Athens in the new
Wrath of Sparta expansion.
Also, I've finally taken the plunge with the
Worlds of Magic beta. The Dwarves will rise!
Any gaming this weekend will most likely be my continued attempt at getting better playing Civ IV on Monarch. After that? No idea. Although, I am looking forward to Wednesday. My son and youngest daughter are coming to spend the night with me and we will be having a RISK marathon. Good times! :)
I was off for the next two weeks but decided to take back Monday and Tuesday to try to get some more work done before EOY. Just as well since we're staying at home and now both my kids and wife are off for two weeks, I should go into the office to get work done instead of trying to do it from home. :)
But that week and a half WILL be an orgy of gaming the likes of which have not been seen since Caligula broke out Settlers of Catan: Star Trek Edition during that one Senate meeting. On my list of intended gaming after next Tuesday includes:
Gary Grigsby's War in the West (for review)
The Longest Day (for review)
Fleet Commander: Nimitz (for review)

My wife and I are away for the week end on a pre-Christmas visit to my folks so my gaming options will be restricted. When I get back I will be delving into State of Decay, which I am really enjoying. Zeds just ripped one of the best characters in two so I may start a new game since I am not that far into my current one.
Don't think i am going to have lots of time for playing (moving my office to another room so the daughter can have a bigger room and the youngest boy will have a room of its own - 3 kids so far). That and x-mas shopping, invited to eat at friends...
My goal is to play:
- Omerta: the Japanese Incentive - one chapter.

Having recently completed a season (first ever of ANY F1 game) of F1 2013 I am pleased to report that it didn't chuck you back to the beginning of your previous season...that is, it seems to have kept the improvements to your car. At least that's how testing felt at Melbourne
I'm waiting to see what F1 2014 goes for on steam...if it's more than 60% off, I might jump in, but as is, I'm happy continuing with an improved Williams car.

Rayfer what faction are you playing as in Rome 2? My own game time will also be limited because of the holidays but in what time I do have I will continue to lead Armenia to greatness in Rome 2, and then switch to some WWI era stuff.

So I guess I'll have to go back and feed the Elder Scrolls Beast until it's happy again. Seeing the Hobbit on Wed. didn't help any. Where did I leave that Mace of Malog Bol?

I picked the Greeks....according to the game they are one of the easier factions to start with. It's a really good game. Spies are excellent and add a cool dimension to the game. I learned real fast that a lack of food will quickly reduce your armies.

You're really missing out. Modding Skyrim is not all that hard. Even the STEP system is more complicated then it needs to be. As long as you don't install mods that do things like make two mods that do/change the same thing you should be ok.
Yeah Rayfer...balancing your regions' happiness can be tricky throughout all phases of a game of Rome 2.

Spent the last few hours on another Monarch Civ IV game. This one has appeared hopeful for some time. Everything is peaceful and I am still able to regularly research Tech the AI doesn't have so I can trade, but, they are starting to pull away and I'm not sure how to catch back up. Maybe I'll look around the interwebz and see if I can find some tips.

For as warlike as I am perceived in some of the other games I play, going to war in Civ is always a last resort for me. I really play Civilization for the city building aspects and the interactions rather than gobbling up territory and being a badass. It's the most likely reason I lose nearly every game I play. You see, I know where to get the info on how to become a machine in this game, but, I don't like playing that style. It takes the joy out of it for me. I am interested in getting better on higher levels, so, I think I will look into strategies for getting better and more efficient at what I already do. And if that's not enough, I guess I can always cry, "Havoc!"
there was a big write up over at RPS how to win the cultural game - it seemed very complicated
I didn't get any PanzOrcs Corpz done last night (partly due to the cat, whom I shall now blame for all my failures), but I did almost finish a mission in War-mageddon40K -- my first since the last two patches (goodbye lasguns for my mortar squad! hello giving names to my squads at last!), and my first that ended with a situation from which I decided I ought to reload from an earlier save. Up to now, the few units I lost were no problem, and I thought I had enough to deal with anything the game threw at me.
Then it threw a bunch of nobs and shoota boyz and burna boyz and killa krushas at me.
Suddenly I can't retreat to my win-points fast enough, and I lose two basilisks. Yeesh. I should have paid attention to the plot when it said TIME TO RETREAT AND HOLD THESE OTHER PLACES ACROSS THE BRIDGE FOR THE WIN GOOD LUCK!
Otherwise, I finally after... a year? more? finished running though the 1960s Doctor Who stories, i.e. for the first two Doctors. With The War Games, appropriately enough. :) Truly felt like the end of an era. I was born the same year the 3rd Doctor started, so it's interesting to see the huge shifts in how things work with the first color ep. (And for technical context I also watched an 18 minute documentary on what was involved switching over to color.)
The 'new' color Doctor Who (I watched the first ep of "Spearhead From Space") looks sharp with all those colors popping out, which the directors intentionally took full advantage of in the shot and set design; but I'm wondering how much of that comes from them having to shoot this 51st story entirely on film due to a union strike. One late side effect is that this is the only pre-modern Who story which converts to Blu in a way that's worth the effort (or so I've heard; I don't have the Blu).

I actually prefer the classic Doctor. I liked it better when he wasn't seen as some god-like figure that was recognized everywhere/when he went. But I know I'm in the minority on that. :P

Just finished up my third war against France in EUIV. Unlike the previous two I couldn't call in my allies; Brandenburg, Poland (with Lithuania), and Castile, so I had to rely on myself and my two vassal Hungary and Burgundy. I need not have worried, France got pulverized. Burgundy alone was able to take out a good portion of the French army with me doing most of the rest of the work.

The reason I couldn't call my allies is because of how the CB's and the war system was changed in art of war. not only if your considered a co-belligerent by the attacking country will you be able to call your allies in. it prevents the really weird and often annoying alliance chains you used to get in previous versions of the game
France was going after Champagne who they were forced to release in a previous war and who I had an alliance with and was guaranteeing the independence of. not sure why I wasn't a co-belligerent.
I just finished annexing Hungary. Been a good weekend for Austria.

I think the latter view respects the continuity of the series as a whole: after all the things he has done, he'd be notorious eventually.
