Title: FRIDAY-o FRIDAY-o
Post by: MetalDog on February 20, 2015, 06:55:23 AM

Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes has its hooks in me.  I am stuck right now in a war that I can't prosecute.  My enemy has cities full of armies, so I can't take his territory, but he won't come out and fight.  And my army's cost is going to bankrupt me.  What to do what to do?!

Minimal game playing time this weekend, but when I can it will be Far Cry 4 and Total War: Attila.....

Taking a "mental health" day today so extra gaming time!  O0

Continuing to play CiV with a new mod I found called Accurate Earth. 22 Civs in true start locations on a very large Earth map. Each Civ is restricted as to how many cities it can build in each era (although you can conquer others beyond this limit), scouts and caravels can cross borders, you can't settle a city in desert, tundra or snow. No goodie huts. These small changes make for a great new way to play. Out of 8 starts so far with different Civs I've only won once, as Egypt, with culture.

More JT Normandy 44 PBEM with Cyrano. I'm trying to take the Normandy beaches as the Brits and Canadians and my Canucks are stuck on the beach still at the end of the June 6.  >:( British Paras, however, are causing his 21 Panzer Div units some heart burn.  O0

Maybe some more work on my new gaming table....

Maybe check out ALB with UCG's slow down mod.....

Research and cast Curgen's Volcano on your enemy to teach him a lesson! Falling Star is also a good way to soften up enemy cities before attacking.

This is the second of three weekends of the melodrama show I'm running sound on, so my Friday and Saturdays (normally good gaming times) are full up.

I am going to try some Men of War and Tales of Maj'Eyal, both generous freebie donations from fellow GHs. Otherwise I am probably going to finish my review of Fleet Commander Nimitz.

Finally getting into Making History: The Great War.  In a complexity scale of 1-10, with WitP a 10, this game is in that nice comfort zone of about 5.

Morrowind!!!

Oh, and in a drunken stupour I began a game of Dominions 4 last night so I might see that how that plays out too.

Yep, agree completely, Rayfer. I think I need to try playing a great power, though. My playing South Africa wasn't all that exciting, so perhaps playing England or Germany may spice things up a bit. Which country are you playing?

I'm spending this weekend playing Empire:Total War, and the Khartoum & Zulu mod for N:TW. Unfortunately, I've gone as far as I can go in the Orient campaign, as once I capture the last Mahdi city, the game crashes. Haven't been able to find a workaround yet. I still have those Ottomans to conquer, so I'm going to wrack my brain to see if I can get past this point somehow.

Oh yikes.  I'll play Attila in a couple of months when I get a new gaming machine.  Meanwhile, on the ancient backup machine called Wheezy II I'm going to play CMANO and CMBN (small scenarios) and maybe some To End All Wars and Steam and Iron.

Quite possibly bust out a solo tabletop game sometime later this weekend since it should be a quiet one.

Otherwise I am probably going to finish my review of Fleet Commander Nimitz.

I'll be curious to hear if you think that there's any hope for that game.

I've been in a "war on terror" kick and playing a good bit of Phantom Fury.  I reproduced this game (as best that I could) in a scenario for CM:SF so I'm going back and forth between the two mediums for playing the game.  Next up on the table: The Hunters.

Hoping also to get the gf to play some Sharks and Jets with me.  ;)

Until recently, I though Wheezy II was just a later version of Wheezy (who became One when there was two).  Then I happened across an old box of stuff I had been
reading in the days of old Wheezy and it turned out I'd named Wheezy for some early (1940s) code-breaking computer of the less-well-known American variety.

So Wheezy II has a lineage of sorts, unlike the Alienware Aurora R2 way way down in the basement which may someday be lucky enough to have some parts salvaged from the monstrous wreck of itself.

Back from holidays...and I actually feel like I need a holiday to get over it!!

Far Cry 4 and - if I can persuade myself, buy and play Attila. Also, I might be continuing my Combat Mission:Black Sea campaign as the Russians. I'm rather glad I'm not being as sneaky as the real life Russian plan

I am completely and utterly sucked into modern warfare gaming right now.

I have been playing just a ton of ARMA 3.  I think JH's post about the RHS mod is what got me to look into ARMA 3 more closely.  I've been doing hours and hours on the King of the Hill multiplayer and having a blast.  I actually feel like I'm getting a handle on the UI finally.

Beyond that, I'd like to look a bit more closely at Wargame: Red Dragon and ALB with the slow-down cheat.

And finally I can't rule out some CM:BS.  It is a good time to be gaming modern war!

I'll be playing a new game called Work: Overtime for most of the weekend. I suggest avoiding it at all cost.

Only two "real" games for me this weekend:

Elite Dangerous really has it hooks into me. First game in a long time that has kept me up till the early hours of the morning on a work night. While I can see some of the flaws others have pointed out, there really not bugging me. Normally trading isn't really my thing, but I'm really enjoying it at the moment. When I get enough credits, I want to use it to buy something I can use for exploration, the pick a direction and head out.

Command Been working on my current scenario all week, when I haven't been playing Elite. I've got the two sides set up, the Queen Elizabeth and the USS America vs two Charles de Gaulle class carriers. Air wings are done, all that is left to do is set up missions and scripting.

Thank you both for the tip.  I looked at my spells available last night and didn't see one I could use to deal damage from afar.  Must not have researched them yet.  Going to have to raise the tax rate and disband some units and hope that that is enough to get Kraxis off his ass and out of his cities to attack.  And did I mention that there are three more civs at war with me, too?  Won't amount to much as I border none of them, but, it screws up my cash inflow.  Less trading partners ;)

I fixed my war impasse in FE:LH.  Up until now, I hadn't been playing the tactical battle.  It adds time to the endeavor and I am impatient.  I WANT MY RESULTS NOW!!!!

Having no more money, and no way to take the city, I built up my rulers army with the best units I had and attacked.  I lost the first time, then, looking through my spells again, I noticed that I could give my Champion (my ruler in this case) a Heal spell.  So, I reloaded the game, went in to battle again and WON!  I now have two of Kraxis cities and my civ is above his in ranking.  W00t!!

Is that a sin?  How else am I supposed to learn and get better?  I am not a fatalist, let happen what will happen.  If I am going to play, I want to win.  And no, the win is not tainted if I have reloaded once or even a hundred times.  It's just not trumpeted as a win.  I know how I got there and would never DREAM of telling anyone, "I kicked its butt," when clearly I did not.  But what I learn will be used in the next game and the game after that until I can game with integrity.  No reloads ;)

Blah blah blah.  All I'm hearing is, "How much better and more noble I am than you."  None of that stuff took place in a vacuum.  Egypt had 3,000 years to get it right.  The Romans had the Greeks.  And you can't be serious about holding a handful of films above the fray and claiming their craptacular antecedents didn't happen for them to learn from?  Besides, where's the fun in, "playing until the bitter end?!!!"  Learn from your mistake and try again. :P

A couple FSX flights with the new Flight1 GTN750 avionics I just bought (boy FSX is an expensive genre!).

The rest of the weekend was/is spent in Wargame Red Dragon and Warlock 2

I caved in and bought OFP Red Dragon Rising, Wargame AirLand Battle, and ARMA III.  I know I said I wouldn't buy more, but well screw that.

That's what I tell myself :)

Plan is to enjoy this on the weekends and a few of those extra paternity days off I have.  For some reason I have a Cold War & contemporary conflicts fix (must be related to the news).

Me too, Endfire.  I don't know why but all of a sudden I have been completely sucked into a modern warfare fix.

I might even start a thread about it.  I think maybe two years ago...maybe longer...I posted a thread about the lack of wargames on modern WW3 style warfare.  That is definitely not the case now.  In fact, I'd say we modern warfare gamers are almost spoiled by the variety of excellent games available.  Everything from ARMA 3 to Steel Beasts in the simulation category, to RTS games like Wargame:ALB/Red Dragon, to hex and counter wargames like Flashpoint:Red Storm.  And for naval wargaming the excellent CMANO.

Really, it's just fantastic!
