Neill Blomkamp's new Alien film will take place immediately after Aliens, ignoring the steaming piles of manure subsequent movies which never did the first two films justice. Says Blomkamp,
"I want this film to feel like it's literally the genetic sibling of 'Aliens.' So it's 'Alien,' 'Aliens,' and then this movie."

I kind of liked Alien: Resurrection. It was a far cry better than Alien 3, the Ishtar of the entire series.
Still, it's good to know they're doing this. It will be interesting to see how the main characters' geriatric nature will be included in the story.
Resurrection wasn't terrible, but by then the franchise had gone so far off the tracks it didn't really matter. The big bomb in the series was, of course, the third movie, which killed off Hicks, Newt and Bishop offscreen and left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. Fixing that injustice makes a do-over worth trying, IMHO. Not to mention, Alien is a horror movie set in a sci-fi universe. They got away from that after the first two films.
I did like Ron Perlman in his role, but hell....I like everything Ron Perlman does.

Though I should rephrase...I enjoyed Alien: Resurrection right up until the end when the alien/human hybrid thing appeared and Ripley did her little sex dance among the tentacles.

I actually liked the Alien vs Predator movies. Set in the present day, this would make them the prequel to the entire series. Sort of.

I eagerly await the District9 sequel
it wasnt a ground breaking movie but I thought it was pretty good.

My son brought Chappie to my attention and he wanted me to watch the trailer last week. After I did I played the trailer for Short Circuit for him...they
are very similar. Then again there's few real unique ideas left in Hollywood.

As much as I hate A3 having killed off beloved cast members between films, I can't fairly say the film isn't trying hard to get back to the horror roots of A1 and away from the tone of A2. To be bluntly honest, the main reason I used to hate it is because it isn't like A2 and I wanted more of that. After about 10 years I got past that, and while I wouldn't call it the same work of genius as A1 I think it stands on its own merits (choppy though those merits sometimes are).
Ditto A4: like A2 but also very different.
I'm never going to say A3 and A4 are as good as A1 and A2, but I respect them now.
Also, Jim Sterling agrees with me about A3, so all rebuttals are immediately invalid.
