No, this isn't an April Fool's joke. (at least I don't think it is).
Despite the fact that Battle of Stalingrad is still missing key features, the team is pushing ahead with their next release. Il-2: Battle of Moscow. They want $80 for pre-orders and are offering up exactly the same stripped down gameplay and the latest in DX9 graphics!
The real kicker, the map for the Battle of Moscow will not feature the city of Moscow. Apparently they don't want people bombing most glorious Russian onion domes and are, as usual, actively banning anyone from their forum who even brings up the subject.
(Oh yeah, they've also posted a sticky saying anyone who questions the flight models in the game without providing peer-reviewed first hand documentary evidence to back up their assertions will also be banned.)
They sound like a right bunch of tossers.
Here's to absolutely NOBODY buying this crap.
I usually don't have buyer's remorse over games, but I definitely regret dropping $60 on BoS...
Battle of Moscow... fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...

I cannot believe it, but I'm not buying Battle of Moscow. I'm sticking to DCS for the time being. I really only need 1 flight sim and flying
cranky jet fighters seems to cover my flight simming needs.
Yeah. I stopped with IL-2 1946. I'm good with that. Actually the most fun I have flying WWII is CFS3 and its mods. I am not a grafix snob and the gameplay is close to what I really liked about European Air War. I can just jump in and go shoot stuff.

BoS has so much potential.
And now they're dropping it far too early for something almost exactly the same. :knuppel2:
Instead of purchasing their new game, I'll be eternally waiting on them to finish BoS. May be waiting forever.
Not sure if they ever changed the ridiculous ground handling of the aircraft in BoS. I suspect that may be one point that made them so touchy. I recall having to push my rudder pedals to the fookeen wall on every take-off due to their modelled tendency for the aircraft to do 'doughnuts' on the ground any time the engine was past idle, even with the tail wheel locked. Was stupid, like some terrible Tokyo Drift movie. ::) I saw mention of it being adjusted, but still saw people complaining afterward, so haven't revisited to see.
I feel bad for possibly influencing others to pick it up back in the pre-release days. The early stages showed promise as the flight models were very distinct and the AI generally put in a good showing during dogfights AND you could actually customize graphics and gameplay. Then they dropped the bomb when they finally unveiled what the single player game would look like and the wheels just fell off.
A lot of customers were holding out hope that the community could save the series once the editor was finally released but the devs managed to royally screw that up as well.
The editor itself is an overly complex, highly unintuitive mess and making even the simplest of missions is a chore. What's worse is that the devs then said (despite earlier promises to the contrary) that no mods other than skins would be allowed. People who were hoping that something like Pat Wilson's campaign generator for ROF would be released for BOS realized that without mods, this would never be a reality.
I still cannot wrap my head around what the devs were thinking. It should have been a no-brainer. Make an ROF style game with WWII settings and put more emphasis on making the single player campaigns more immersive. Instead we get this soulless abortion. Frustrates me no end.

Well, Nef, all you have to do is dig up the relevant documentation from German and/or Russian military archives (you speak both languages fluently, yes?) detailing the ground handling performance of the relevant aircraft, along with affadavits from the nearest living descendants of German and/or Russian pilots attesting that said aircraft definitely were not so rudder-heavy during take-off, cross-checked against expert knowledge of aviation scholars at German and/or Russian military academies, and 777 will be happy to clear that all up for you in the next patch...
I know what's at the top of my list for what I am not buying [probably] ever.

LOL
You guys are absolutely correct.
The policies of the devs/publisher screwed what could have been a superb sim. The flying part is still great, last I played, but all the other half-assery and lockdown bullshit from whomever is running the show is shocking.
The only people they will have to blame, after their next title doesn't garner sales worth a shit, is themselves.
After CloD I was never going near BoS - and anything else that company did.
I know it wasn't that company that did CloD - but there was a crossover in development. CloD was dropped like a hot brick as well. Now this and then BoM. They won't stop until people stop buying their crap.
Having said that, I'm off to pick up BoS...I think it looks like the doggies doodahs O0

Same with me. I wish I could get my 60 back and drop it on a real game like the upcoming Star Drive 2.
I enjoyed IL-2 1946, but when I read about the focus on multiplayer for the future games of the franchise, I dropped it (caring about future titles) like a hot turd and never looked back.
If any of you follow game development and developers in general, you will find that a bunch of developers feel abused and oppressed by the fans of their games. They cite tweets and forum posters who make their lives hell and many are thinking of quitting the industry because of it. I think they are a bunch of giant babies. When twitter abuse becomes a grievance in your life, you have become a true baby. If you can't filter out twitter and forum idiots from your life, you need to pack up your internet life and just quit.
I think many developers simply can't take criticism well. I personally don't follow game forums for anything but specific feedback on my questions. I rarely ever get involved with game forum politics.
The SimHQ forums have simply exploded over this crap.

Oh Yeah CLod :tickedoff: ....but there is a mod or something out that makes it usable, so i was told ;-)
Team Fusion mod I believe - it does look like a great mod and I have it installed ready to play because CLoD itself is stunning - but the content was diabolically bad and you could tell why they changed from BoB to CLoD

The CLoD thing. Kind of a strange story. The game as originally released was reportedly quite a mess. I never played it until the Team Fusion mods started coming out and it is definitely the best all-around air sim at least visually. So much so that I may stop even messing with Battle of Stalingrad and its progeny and go back to CLoD for a bit. But you gotta do some modding. But that's often the case. So if I get tired of DCS in the next couple of weeks....maybe some CLoD work will ensue.
Yet people buy their games. :uglystupid2:

I think BoS is still better than CLoD, even with it's scant content and horribly under-randomized missions.

Can't agree with that at all. AA has never worked properly with CLOD particularly for those with AMD cards. For me, AA is an absolute necessity in a flight sim because it makes all the difference between seeing a random blob of pixellated dots or seeing an actual aircraft from which you can gauge type and heading and react accordingly.
CLoD might be OK for MP now but the single player is still hot garbage. The AI doesn't react well. Wingmen don't respond to commands. You can't even change nationalities in quick missions so you end up with Bf-110s with Italian markings or other such nonsense.
Who is up to do this ?
http://il2sturmovik.com/battle-of-moscow/
1C Game Studios announce a preorder program for IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Moscow, selling a premium edition of the upcoming combat flight simulator for $79.99. This carries a bunch of incentives, including 10 aircraft, some early unlocks, and access to the beta to help influence the game's development. Here's the deal:
We invite you to become a participant in the development of BOM by purchasing a Pre-Order in the continuation of the legendary Sturmovik series. By doing this, you will be the first to get access to the product and the reproduction of the legendary air battle of World War II which took place from October 1941 to April 1942. Battle of Moscow will include a large-scale map (270 x 290 km) and several famous aircraft that have been recreated from detailed drawings and blueprints (I-16 Type 24, Bf-109 E-7, MiG-3, Bf-109 F-2, IL-2 model 1941, Bf-110 E-2, Pe-2 Series 35, Ju-88 A-4, P-40 E-1, MC.202 Series VIII). Battle of Moscow is fully compatible with "IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad" through a single user account.

You're talking about with the Fusion mods, too, right? I dimly remember that this time about 2 years ago, visually it was a pleasant surprise and the editor works fine. Still, I haven't reinstalled it so maybe my memory of the CLoD of 2013 is rose-tinted.
i tried to install the mod, while in that process (unpacking of file Team+Fusion+4.0+Mod+Installer+Complete.rar) i got a virus warning and looked it up in the internet
i found this:
Quotemod 4.0 installer.exe
Mod Installer
The executable mod 4.0 installer.exe has been detected as malware by 14 anti-virus scanners. This file is typically installed with the program IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover by 1C Company

is there a virus free version around, or is that just one of those "heuristic-hit" of the scan engine.... i stay away from it :tickedoff:

Another heuristic false positive. Pretty commonplace nowadays.
From what I saw, the TF mod helped many things in Cliffs Of Dover but that sim was such an abortion in the first place that it will always have issues. Looks very pretty although it goes nuts with AA on (which is a big no-no). Just one little example of the many issues.
I played around with CLOD a little before and after the TF mod. It was so bad that relative to release, TF mod seems a god-send. But in absolute terms, CLOD with TF still has a lot of issues. I struggled getting it to run on Win8. I still find the AI pretty bad. I still see a lot of graphical glitches. I just need the graphics to be decent and not harm game play. The original Il-2 all modded up does it for me.
I still think BOS/BOM still has a chance to be what we all hoped it would be. But it require the devs to get their heads out of their asses. So far, I seen only a very small move in that direction.

But it would also require the devs to re-commit to something they clearly have no intention of producing at this point -- a robust single-player campaign. I think it's fair to say that what most folks 'hoped BoS would be' in that respect is very different from what 777 actually delivered...

They may not need much commitment towards that, if they would improve the modding and editing situation. But it sounds like they're dead set against anyone improving the sim they didn't quite fill out.

There may be hate brewing, but Flare Path says they are going to have P-40s in Battle of Moscow. I may have to ride-out the hate and
get the game. Or maybe I'll just get the Mig-15 in DCS. I just can't make up my mind!
Get the mig15 when it's on sale again. I bet they have a sale for summer in the next couple months.
As bad as the things have gone with BOS, there are guys making missions for it now that the FMB is out. I found one that works great as a coop with a large AI battle going on around you.
They are on the verge of releasing summer maps with a campaign, but nobody really likes the campaign system. It's free content for BOS so I'll give it a whirl.
BOM is pretty much more of the same of BOS, atleast this time around the premium purchasers don't have to grind in sp to unlock the field mods.
I would be more interested if they went forward in the timeline and did battle of Kursk, that way we get the Hs-129 and ptab for the il2s.
I hopped in and did a few quick missions to see what's been improved and to check out the Ju-52. Not surprisingly, the AI behaviour for these transports is just silly. They appear to be following a dogfighting routine and will try to out turn you to get on your tail. Doesn't do them much good when their only defences face rearwards.
They do have some nice crash animations though. I shot down three and damaged a fourth before I ran out of ammo. I chased the survivor down to the deck and got him to clip a tree at low speed. His right wing hit a tree trunk and crumpled and the rest of the plane yawed around in a most gratifying manner. Nice physics.

This is the problem with recent flight sims.
The devs only want to spend their time creating wonderful models, skins, and animations, etc and spend the least amount of time they can on the rest. >:(
