Ok I was pretty much knocked on my back last weekend...but I'm back thanks to the support of the Grogs here (well, likely more to do with the wife and kids looking after me - but she knows that's a thankless job)
Anyway - gaming this weekend.
I've been eyeing the server races at SimHQ for Assetto Corsa and wanting to take part in a couple - so I might spend a bit of time on
Assetto Corsa with the intention of taking part in their race on Sunday at 16:00 GMT.
Continue with the superbly classic
Far Cry 4, start that elusive
War in the West campaign and also a bit of
CM:BS - something I haven't touched in some time. If IIRC I was at the river crossing stage of my campaign.
So enjoy your gaming everyone O0
Friday night will be some Sovereignty and Cities Skyline while I back my gaming rig. Saturday I'll be doing some major surgery on the gaming rig, new motherboard, CPU, RAM, and a dedicated SSD for games. If all goes well I should have everything back up and running by Saturday night. After that it'll be some mix of Sovereignty, Cities, Distant Worlds, and EUIV.
When I get chance around work there shall be mostly CMBS with jomni and con

I've had my arse kicked by work this week, trying to catch up with a ton of things since going on vacation last week so I haven't been able to do any of the AARs I started. I fully intend to get at each one this weekend: Ottoman Sunset, B-17: Queen of the Skies, and B-29 Superfortress: Hell Over Korea.
I've also got to finish up the latest edition of the GrogCast this weekend too, which will have to be done first before any gamin'...
Command, Northern Fury: H Hour scenario, with my ongoing AAR. Also some scenario building in SPMBT.
^Don't forget to fill us in how the Norwegians do in their lonely and desperate fight against Mother Bear.
My iMac is in the shop so I won't not have time to play games on it. I might move my windowbox into the living room so I can not play games on it instead. Or maybe the Elder Gods of Leisure Time will smile on me for once and I'll get the chance to D/L my new copy of WITW and stare at the menus and setup screens like a rhesus monkey watching a calculus lecture.
WitW isn't nearly that bad, Stagger. Just watch the intro tutorial vids from the main menu and that should be more than enough to get you started. It was for me. O0
So many new games, so many old. I'm swimming in computer games! I'll play Sovereignty, Stardrive 2 and Age of Wonders 3 for certain. More GalCiv3, 7 Days to Die maybe.
Geek, you need working on. Star Ruler 2 has a multiplayer option!
Coming close to the end of my Normandy 44 PBEM battle with Cyrano so need to get at least 2 turns of that in. Each game turn represents 2 hours but it takes 2.5 hours to complete a turn.... :idiot2:
This PBEM has got me in the mood for some operational level board wargaming. Dug out an oldie, Superpowers at War from S&T magazine from 1985! Good old fashion Warsaw Pact vs NATO in Germany stuff... from when it could have really happened. O0
Also got a copy of the first issue of YAAH! magazine and it has two games in it. Going to try and play Stamford Bridge. It's got Vikings vs the Brits in a hack slash tactical battle. What could be better for s cold Saturday afternoon. :D

Contiuing my Lombard campaign in Attila TW - definitely the most interesting campaign of the ones I have done so far. And then shifting gears for a bit with Battle Academy 2 - Kursk expansion.
Conflicts and wars in the 19th century for me.

Out of doors:
Stain the wargaming table that I've been working on, weather permitted.
Iracing: Sebring Track, Skip Barber Series. Big Step up from driving MX5s Mazdas .
Pillars of the Earth: The story is finally hitting its stride and is becoming quite enjoyable.
Mess around with ARMA III and the new DLC.
Get ready for GTA V next week !!!!!
This weekend its mowing...and I had some gravel hauled in so I'll also be playing on a tractor quite a bit.
However, I did get Prepar3d setup with FSEconomy again last night...so maybe I can get a flight in at some point.
I'll continue my Tannenberg scenario in To End All Wars, along with more World War One: Centennial Edition.
And then when the drinking commences, it will be World of Warships and World of Tanks. Don't have to be sober to play those. O0

I thought I was going to end up with some HPS PBEM, but no. looks like some DCS and ARMAIII and some OCS boardgames such as Enemy at the Gates.
It would seem I will get some Normandy '44 turns! Variable reinforcement has assuredly been my foe, but I'm no fan of the Allies' air cover either.
Kursk and CM:BS PBEM. The former is winding down under bad visibility conditions. My werfers can't see the damned Soviets to shoot them. The latter continues to involve a lot of Rooskie silly knees-bent, running about, advancing behavior.
I made the decision -- I won't call it good or bad -- to turn on ALL the options on my digital Talisman. Holy cats there's a lot there. My son and I are locked in grim battle with a couple of evil-hearted AI characters.

I agree Jim. I just look at guys playing something like It Never Snows and cringe at all the work that would take to play.... but a little envious that they have the will power/attention span, that I no longer have, to do so.
Normandy '44 has grown on me as our game has progressed. I still don't like not having factors on the counters but I'm starting to understand and like the combat model.
Maybe, if I have not bored you with my slow turn returns, we could try another scenario after this one?
I'm going to finish up my Terran campaign in Starcraft 1, using the Mass Recall mod, and then start the Zerg one. I am also going to dive headfirst into some 4X game that I own... I own too many, and haven't given any of them enough playtime. I will also go through the tutorials for To End All Wars, and try to play some of the small scenarios from the expansion.
Seeing if I'm still as bad at SP WWII as I was when I was much younger-- so far it's a yes. And Pillars of Eternity. There's so many damned spiders in this game there should be a Pest Control class for characters. But after last night's episode of Vikings, I'm hankering to sack Paris in Attila TW. Where is it on that damned dark map anyway? 8)
Just bought CMBS, but I'm still playing the main scenario from the CMBS demo and getting rocked by the AI pretty hard.
Just about to start the third battle of the CMFI campaign "Conrath attacks".
Playing the excellent user created "Luftwaffe Pilot: Legion Kondor!" (by FlatSpinMan at Mission4Today) campaign for IL-2 1946. About to fly on my second mission after arriving in Spain in 1937. The first eight missions of the campaign were training missions and border patrols along Switzerland's border.

Still thinking about it...not extremely immersed in the games i am currentely playing (Paraworld and Endless Space). They are good games but i might need something else. In no particular order: Star Drive 2, Star Drive, War in the East, and maybe some War Thunder. For some strange reason whenever I read a combat report in WitE about how my Bf-109s intercepted a gaggle of SU-2s that were trying to interdict one of my divisions I get a hankering for jumping into my 109E in War Thunder and trying to recreate that battle in WitE in a live multiplayer game. Is something wrong with that or me? ;D

been getting into AOW3, i fairly suck at it. I'm 100 turns in and i only have 2 cities in my dwarf dreadnought empire, there metropolis size but having a hard time generating gold. There's not a bunch of resources in the underground and i keep getting "what to build brainlock" and my upkeep for my 3 hero led armies is starting to break me and i feel myself falling behind the curve and now 2 of the top dweller empires have declared war on me. I ventured up top and am finding a lot of tier 3 units and i can't guard all the entrances to my empire [can 2 cities be called an empire? ::)] so the top dwellers have started to encroach on my turf......I think this will end badly, can't we all just get along. i'm starting to see what people are saying about the race to higher tier units. I haven' payed attention but don't tier 1 and 2 units get more powerful as they get experience i.e recruit>veteran>elite .... like more hit points, and deal more damage? It would be nice if once tier 1 or 2 units got to a certain experience level they could pick some special skill or power to stay relevant longer.

SoW is pretty simple to learn for single player. I'm confused as far as multiplayer goes however. Trying to play a LAN game and I get a full division or corps and my son gets a half brigade size worth. Then, if we play on, he (or I) march to where we should engage yet we don't actually see one another. It's as if we're playing the same scenario but in two different parallel universes. I'd like to just play a scenario (say Antietam cornfield) where we have roughly the same sized units. It doesn't work though and it's quite frustrating.
I've not played a digital game in about 2 weeks.
That doesn't mean I haven't purchased any in that time. :idiot2:

Indeed, that would be nice, and is something you could do in previous games in the series. It sounds like you're coming to the same disappointing realisations as I did about AOW3. Oh and yes, units do level up (if you can even keep them alive long enough) but the stat boosts they get as a result are negligible and don't make them at all useful against higher tier units - they'll still be cut to ribbons in battle. It is very much just a race to the top tier. :/
@ GJK- I almost quoted your original post to take that format. LOL.
I've never tried MP in SoW, but I understand it has a robust MP community. So, it sounds like user-error on your part. I'd really like to try SoW against a human opponent once I understand how the game works. Commanding a Brigade is no problem, but I'd like to figure out how to do the whole smack- like a Corps command with butt in the saddle and couriers only. I want to get that proficient at the game.

budd...I like AOW3 but found I could only survive playing on one of the easier difficulty settings. I know many here relish high difficultly settings on most games they play but I'm not one of them. One other thing...after building some basic stuff set one city to generate wealth. It helps with the money issue.

The problem you are having stems from the amount of cities you have. After 100 Turns, you should have five to eight cities. That way, you can use most of them to produce Gold while the rest make units or whatever else you need. And while it's true that it's a race to Tier IV units, it's also true that it's a race to have as many cities as you can.
i figured i was behind the city building curve,in hindsight i just never considered building up top..duh. i have a few gates to up top within easy reach. i spent too much time exploring and looking for a good place for a city down below where the resources are scarce and clearing out the independents. I'm going down, but i shall sell my kingdom at a dire cost to my enemies........and then hit restart :)
Tested more games for the girls last night, anticipating I'd be able to play with the nieces this morning -- but then 'work' work had to happen instead. :P Good for profit I guess.
One thing I'll be curious to see if the girls like, which I ended last night's testing on, is Ironcast. I died pretty quickly in my campaign, but it's a roguelike, so that's not unexpected.
Specifically (as many here already know) it's a match-3 Victorian steampunk mech combat roguelike. The 'roguelike' portion is limited to playing on ironman mode with a running save and permadeath; but any experience earned in the game transfers into a pool for unlocking bling in future games. Also, the missions may be randomized (I haven't played a second campaign yet so I don't know), but even if they aren't there's a structure of giving the player 9 turns (iirc) to level up enough to fight the boss for unlocking the next area and each turn provides a selection of three missions to choose from (or go straight to the boss). After playing through the fine tutorial (which grants no advances into the actual campaign, so no need to play it more than once), I survived on mission easily, then fought a tank which handily ate my lunch.
Be aware: IT IS VERY MUCH A MATCH 3 GAME! If you don't like match-3s, this will not change your mind. I don't care for basic match-3 games (like Bejeweled), but I enjoy seeing how clever designers can convert it into the tropes of another genre like a space trading game, or a fantasy RPG campaign (in at least three different flavors), or Godzilla invading a city to fight an enemy creature, or in this case mech combat. There's movement (though not on a map during a fight, but it helps with dodging) and shields and heat management and weapon systems and repairs in the field, and then blinging up the mech back at base with scrap and tech salvaged from enemy deaths. I came to the game as a fan of Mechwarrior and was not disappointed; but I also went into it realizing it is very much a match 3 game.
Is it a mobile port? If it isn't, it might as well be! It works well on my Surface touchscreen, as might be expected.

Excellent suggestion - I think that we'll try that right now!
And yes, I'm sure that I'm having some operator error issues but we're determined to figure it out...love this game (for a
computer game that is :P ).
Edit: Just tried again. We connect via LAN and I see him in my "lobby". I set the scenario, we pick leaders and launch but we aren't playing the same game. He isn't where he should be on my screen nor am I on his. So we tried connecting via external IP. I see him in the lobby, we set and the same thing happens; it's not the same game. What am I missing?
Per the game forums- the two versions on each computer must match exactly. Also, there appears to be a log file called "SOWGB.log" that may have some info if you read it right after a failed attempt.
To the surprise of probably no one, I'll playing Stardrive 2 when I get out of bed tonight. ::)

What! Not even the dance you did on a table wearing nothing but a bucket and one sock?
im trying to picture where each of those things would be - im hoping for everyones sake he doesnt need a bucket to keep his 'stuff' in
This afternoon I had a hankering to play Democracy 3. The first 2/3 of my first year featured lots of riots in the street and things of that sort in Great Britain after I was elected PM and, after studying the various incomes and expenditures for a few hours, instituted a series of radical (and in many cases ultimately temporary) changes to get our economy out of the hole. But I recovered with some popular plans before the end of the year and from an approval rating somewhere in the teens, came back with enough of a lead to very solidly win my second term. Whereupon I began eliminating some of my 'wealthy' taxes in order to stimulate our GNP, and eliminating some of our more unpopular expenses; then started gradually increasing various government programs.
In my second and third elections, I picked up 98 and 100 percent of the votes respectively, after which the game began getting stale. (Also I'm not a big fan of how it treats religion, even though the 1.5% remaining religious people in Great Britain after my second year -- somehow! -- adored me. Its wildly outdated expectations on global warming hilariously hamper it, too. ;) )
Back to Ironcast. :smitten:

That would've been the sock.
:2funny:
{studiously ignoring the other conversation for the sake of sanity...}
My second Ironcast campaign got a lot farther than my first, but self-destructed when I chose a hard mission that I thought I was ready for -- and which I might well have been ready for -- but to which I forgot to bring my new autoweapon. ::) :P So I went in undergunned, or more undergunned than I would have been, the result being that I couldn't get rid of one of the enemy's more dangerous weapons in time, and he just outgunned me. (Like in a 'real' mech game, you have to choose which specific system to target for special damage beyond the general amount done. His missile launching system was just too awesome at splash damage, and with my puny level one rapid fire cannons I couldn't get rid of it fast enough.)
My third Ironcast campaign got off to a great start when I defeated a hard assignment on my second mission -- though I took so much damage I had to spend most of my earned metal on repairs. But I had enough left over for one more armor upgrade, and I leveled up twice on that mission which added two more half-strength armor upgrades (plus previous global experience upgrades from failed campaigns were giving me small amounts of extra armor per level, too).
Unfortunately, on my third mission -- a tricky mission where I started with no working weapons and had to survive until I could get them unjammed -- my heat sinks got overwhelmed and I was stuck damaging myself from heat buildup while desperately firing as my only feasible option to try to end the mission before the other guy shot me up. This might still have worked, but I missed one key shot and, well, the other guy repaired his missile shooter and ammo'd up enough to blast me twice and that was all she wrote.
Breaking news! -- I just got finished playing several missions of the old Act of War: Direct Action C&Cish game on my Win 8.1 system.
i.e. Act of War works on modern systems again. For this we can thank GoG.
I've been playing mostly Endless Space...the tensions with the 3 Meklar races (ehm Automons ::)) has turned into an alliance. While i am not facing extinction or invasions anymore, i don't see how i can win this game as the Automons have such a huge advance (on all the other races by the way). My goal will be to be fourth...let's see...i am 1/2 way through (150 turns)...
The other game i've been playing as been Pandora: first contact (first game and about 100 turns)....nice game O0...it's been a friendly campaign so far.
I've also launched Europa Universalis: Rome and read some of the tutorials....one of the many many games on my gamesiownandshouldplay list....
Lots of getting blown up by Con and tip toeing round Jomni so far in the PBEMs
Spent a 'where the hell did the time go' 4 hours playing Disney Infinity with Junior, we unlocked the Attack Choppers and had a blast strafing baddies and each other - 'i want a helicopter game daddy' - im not sure how shell take DCS Blackshark for her 8th birthday
I haven't played anything yet, just reading and surfing this weekend so far, but I just sat down with a big iced coffee and I'm going to boot up either SoW or ARMA 3. Not sure which, yet, but one of them for sure. I think SoW.
I played some more SOW tonight - vs the AI. We tried and tried to get co-op and multiplayer working but it was one thing or another. The error log showed that we didn't have matching dds files so client was dropped. So I figured that I'd just copy my entire mods folder to his computer and that made it worse; now he CTD's when we try and connect. I figured that the mods weren't loaded properly so I just copied my entire SOW directory but he still CTD's when we try and load multiplayer. So we gave up on it. Shame, looked like it would of been a fun father-son thing.
Got my usual Civ IV BtS mp in this weekend. Got some Sovereignty, too. Not as much as I would have liked, but, some nonetheless.
Setting up the revised gaming rig took longer then expected, but was able to sneak in a few hours of Sovereignty on my Surface Pro 3 while dealing with windows updates. So far really liking what I see, couple of things I hope they fix or change on the tactical maps, but I think Matrix may have a winner with this one.

I figured that the mods weren't loaded properly so I just copied my entire SOW directory but he still CTD's when we try and load multiplayer. So we gave up on it. Shame, looked like it would of been a fun father-son thing.
Not an expert in SOW, but I seem to remember that you have to activate the different mods from the main menu. Have you both activated the same mods? Why not try a fresh install on both pc's? :)
If you get your SoW MP sorted out let me know. I might be willing to give it a try. I played a couple of hours just now. Did the Brigade tutorial and man, that was exhausting. What a fight!

Toonces: We might see if we can connect and play- I'm curious to know if it's my install, or the one on my sons computer, or both.
Coug- Yes, there is a "Modifications" menu where you enable/disable modifications that you have in your mods folder. I've checked and on both PC's, the same mods are enabled. I'll probably uninstall all of his and then reinstall and see if that helps first.
Stardrive 2 dominated my life this past weekend. Until today (when I fired up Sovereignty for a bit), it was literally the only thing I played between Thursday and now. It's a very good game -- it's not "everything I ever wanted" in a space 4x title, but it *is* the best one I've come across since Distant Worlds was released back in 2010. I'm definitely having fun with it.
Between that and Sovereignty, I foresee my next two days off (tonight & tomorrow night) being happily occupied. 8)
The Lombards have captured my heart over the weekend in Attila TW. Still a difficult campaign but really fun.

I played some more SOW tonight - vs the AI. We tried and tried to get co-op and multiplayer working but it was one thing or another. The error log showed that we didn't have matching dds files so client was dropped. I've never played MP with mods enabled, other than a semi-offical custom scenario pack.
I know that it will refuse to run if the files are different or if it seems like someone has modified something they shouldn't have, as some kind of cheat prevention. Which means that you can't run it in MP with any game mechanic & UI mods IIRC or it will go berserk. There was also something about joining scenarios from DLC which one player didn't own.
Sounds like you'll have to wipe your son's install clean and reinstall everything. Just remember that not only the base game, but every DLC, has a patch you need to run. So get the latest for all of them for the specific install.
Been awhile since I played, and I've only done multi-player coop a handful of times, so I may not be of much use here.

Have they patched in Workshop support yet?
I became quite disgusted with trying to find specific small mods on the TWcenter forums long ago. Trying to find a needle in the Mississippi. That damn Imperium rating imbalance between Hordes and regular land-owning factions has to go.
^Not yet, and TWC denizens are all lathered up about it. CA keeps stating 'soon.'
It's not the weekend but you can bet I'll be playing Age of Wonders 3 with the Eternal Lords DLC tonight! :D
