Has anyone experienced the auld BSOD?
I just got one only after maybe 15 or 20 minutes in?
I know JH has this - but anyone else and is there a fix? I've seen other people mention it on Google search, but I haven't found a fix yet
Ta
I was considering picking this up at sone point but are you saying an actual windows blue screen of death comes up while playing it? I haven't seen a game cause that for me in ages so if that's the case I'll likely hold out until something like that is confirmed fixed, unless isolated to very unique situations.
I'd seen a theory that the bsod was caused by the game absorbing all the PCs resources - like aaaalllllll of them
Yes...that's what happened. I haven't had one in a long time either.
Having said that, the Times I did have it, it was often driver related. Could even be heat...I didn't get to check.
I'll let you know if it's a consistent problem

I guess on top of whether there are issues, would also be interested in your thoughts on the actual gameplay....seems to be mostly universally loved, but I have not seriously played any of the past versions. Just curious too, do you own the Steam version, physical version, or the rockstar download? I am leaning towards the physical version just because of the hefty download requirements (60gb).
The game is pretty buggy (lots of crashes).
And I've seen it having over-heating issues sometimes for no reason.
You could try to throttle the FPS on the game (limiting it to only 60 or even 30 or such) if you have over-heating problems.
I'd not recommend using the NVIDIA game optimisation on the NIVIDA Experience.
It suggested settings too high for GTA 5, and too low for GTA 4.
Game works for me on my domestic rig of i5 661 3.33GHz dual core, 4GB RAM and GeForce GTX 760 2GB VRAM, which is not a special pc by any means. I've been reading posts on Reddit and elsewhere saying that 'Behemoth' rigs are having stuttering issues and other things that are not spec-related.
For example, increasing water graphics to max on my rig has no performance impact.
TBH, seems like new release teething issues. GTA 4 was the same.
As far as content, it's mind blowing, no doubt about it. It's like twenty games in-one. RPG, FPS, Sports, Exploration...There are mini-games, easter eggs, a UFO conspiracy hidden in-game, bank heists with your own crews that improve skill levels, upgrades on weapons, vehicles, clothes, haircuts, shades, underwater exploration, playing the stock market and too much to list here...it's freaking unbelievable how much depth there is in this game. You can switch between major characters and they have skill levels that can be improved via activity and experience. It's also impossible to gain money with cheats, which adds some gravity to making cash in the game.
My summary: a must-have, but has post-release issues so you may want to invest in it now and let it sit on your drive if it bombs, or wait for general fixes and community approval before buying. Your call.

Gameplay so far is pretty cool. I love stories in games and good characterisations. It keeps them immersive for me. Open world with missions when you want - right up my street.
Car driving is pretty crap. I was never good at it in GTA IV and I'm no better here. It's the "swing" camera thing where it doesn't stay locked to the boot of the car. This does have an FPS view for driving, but these kind of games I like to stay in third person...including when driving.
Overall, I'm impressed. It looks absolutely amazing to boot. At the start I'm playing a couple of gang bangers (is that the right term?) and they are good characters to play. I like the banter between them and the dialogue seems pretty realistic if not stereotypical. Actually kind of stereotypical overall.
I'm surprised at the amount of use the N word gets. It's not a word used very often in the UK and kind of generally frowned upon. Having said that - it fits - so why not. I'm not totally against PC - but I'm not totally for it either.
I bought the £39.99 version from Steam. It did take about 4 hours to download, but I left it overnight.

LOL. Saying the GTA series isn't PG-13 is an understatement :P
Btw, how are you, as a Brit, handling having to drive on the right side of the road?
I know that even in my last trip to the UK (couple of weeks ago) I still found myself befuddled by the idea
of driving on the wrong side of the road :))
I find it generally hard to drive in the game
But...as a family we go to Europe occasionally and I was in the army so I've had practice driving on the right hand side of the road...it's no biggie

Just to be clear, I'm not denying that some players are having CTDs. I'm sure they are, and I'm sure there are bugs...but to claim "the game is pretty buggy" is a stretch for me. Its a AAA release for me so far and it has been smooth as silk.

Trying shooting out of vehicles during the heists mission (like shooting from the van at the end of the first heist) or shooting out of the car in the first mission with Trevor and you'll see.

Ummmm...I've played both of those missions and shoot from inside of vehicles all the time. I haven't noticed any problem. What is your issue?
I've been shooting out of vehicles too.
Apart from the BSOD I had, I've had nothing else show up as yet.
One thing that is pissing me off a bit is the saving. I have (a couple of times now) spent a fair bit of time going to my home so I can get into bed and save the game...but both times I've done it, the story has interjected. That's been rather annoying. I want to go to bed (in real life) so I drive from where I am all the way home (in game >:D ) and when I get there, a cut scene firres up and I'm dragged into the story again.
NO! BAD GAME! I'm at home to save...NOT be dragged into another mission!! :knuppel2:

+1
23 in-game hours- no crashes or glitches at all. There has been lag on occasion, but the game is a blast.
Edit- let me expand on that a little. This is a demanding game, system resource wise. When a game is pushing the envelope on technology and system resources, having the latest stable drivers for your sound and video card is essential. Also, system heat can become an issue. I have an ATI video card and a Cooler Master case with great ventilation and extra fans. My brother and I went on a 11 hour binge on day two and he crashed about once or twice an hour while I was totally stable.
I'm not giving Rockstar a pass either. There are plenty of PC games that are more stable on a wider variety of systems.

The Heists were why I popped back on here, was wondering whether a GrogCrew had been put together. The fun and immersion these missions (setups plus finale) bring is amazing, the teamwork required is more like a full scale military mission, the Online is a totally different game from single player.
As for the cash cheats, single player, maybe but not online, if you are a good player you will not need it, a good session of about two or three hours will pull in at least 200K.
Recommended Online toys:
Buzzard attack copter (1.75 million)
Armored Karin Kuruma (525K + mod shop tuning)
Sad fact at present is that the Kurama is the only car that is useful online, this was introduced in Heists and is a very fast, projectile armored vehicle (bullet proof glass fitted as standard), for general mission teamwork play nothing can touch it, it has made the other cars obsolete aside from races using custom cars, IMO Rockstar needs to bring in upgrades like projectile armor and bullet proof glass for the other cars to balance this out.
There two more choppers that turned up in Online Heists that need to be unlocked, the Valkyrie and Savage, Valkyrie is a party vehicle due to the weapons and the savage is more attuned to solo play, they are just short of 3 million each.
There are other choppers and cars but those are the most useful and the most used by folk.
Word of caution, think very carefully before buying an Insurgent, there are two types, one goes in your garage and the other Pegasus will drop off, forget the garage one, it is next to useless and has armor like tissue paper, the Pegasus one is a beast, top mounted gun (manned by a friend) and pretty good armor.
I am still on 360 at present as I gave up waiting when the last delay hit for the PC back in January, I have been putting a rig together and at present just deciding on a GFX card to go with the setup, after the farce with X Rebirth, the urgency was no longer there for me so I just waited and saved the cash till GTA V's release date got closer, even now I shall wait a few more months till the kinks in the current PC version are ironed out.

DOH! I now recall a message popping up in game early on telling me exactly that! O0
Granted, I am talking about the PS4 version here , but I believe the other versions work the same: the game auto-saves at various points.
If you have completed a mission it will save the game and you can just quit the game and start where you left off again next time.
Only if you have just been freeroaming without doing any missions you need to Quicksave or go home to save.
Something pretty weird happened yesterday with it...I quit the game and when I went back, I was coming out a building I hadn't seen before and I was dressed completely differently :uglystupid2:

When that happens in RL it's called a 'Fugue State'. It's like being in Witness Protection Service without knowing it.
When it happens in game it means you're accounts been hacked and someone's playing your game!

That had crossed my mind to be completely honest - but the time played and missions completed all made sense and matched my progress.
Well - I seem to have problems.
I couldn't remember my login details for Rockstar Social Club. I remember having that problem and so I wasn't going to buy GTA V until I sorted it.
I requested a reset of my password several times and nothing came through, so I created a new Rockstar Social Club account and I was able to play GTA IV with that account. So I was happy.
I then bought GTA V and was kind of surprised but not too bothered about it not asking me for the login details for Social Club. However, I did notice it said wmar1967 as the username which I thought was weird because whilst I thought that was my original account, it wasn't my new one I created.
So...to check (and having the different character show and different clothes etc), I reinstalled my Steam version of Max Payne 3. That requested my Rockstar Social Club login details. I put in my new account details and sure enough it said the game is registered under a different Steam Social Club account.
In short - I have no freakin' idea what's happened with my Rockstar account. What I do know is this...
- I couldn't remember the login details of my original account, so requested reset emails which I did not get
- I created a new account and was able to play my Steam version of GTA IV using that account
- I then bought and installed my Steam version of GTA V game which didn't require login info for Social Club and seems to be using my original wmar1967 account
- I installed my Steam version of Max Payne 3 which seems to accept my new Social Club account details, but tells me my Steam game is using a different account and so cannot continue
What a total f*ck up!
All because of some sh!te piece of crap software that I will NEVER use.
If anyone has ANY idea on how to resolve this complete bollox - feel free to chuck in your say. 'cos I do NOT know what to do here. Ideally I'd like to dump the new account and use my original one
To confuse the issue even further - Max Payne 3 is showing under my new profile on the Rockstar Social Club website - but I can't get on it in Steam!
And even more confusion....by some bizarre coincidence, I am able to login to my own account...even though I was not able to do so only a few days ago with the exact details I typed in right now!!
Old account...

First tip: use a programma like Keypass to store account info.
In this day and age we have countless accounts for God knows what, but keeping track of those you don't use often is a pain.
Keypass (and its brothers) is a neat little program to safely store this info on your phone, desktop or tablet.
Secondly I would contact Rockstar support.
I have contacted them before on two occasions and always got a response by an employee within 72hrs.
Thanks.
I wouldn't use a program to store info. I have no idea who wrote them and what they will be doing with that info. I'm just a bit - untrustworthy like that.
However, I do keep passwords in a book in my house. I know the book...only me. I just never did it for things like that.
The plot thickens. So my original account was tied to my Hotmail account - I obviously used that one so I didn't get any crap through - however, the DoB says August 8th 1963 - which is totally wrong!
Time for some Rockstar support!
Seriously? :knuppel2:

Don't worry about it.
It's actually a feature.
When you leave a character alone and then come back to them, they sometimes just seem to have ended some "social activity",
and often change their clothing.
This happens most often when you play one character, switch to another and do some missions with them, and then back to the original character.
It's normal and nothing to worry about.
Your save game is local, so no one is playing your game :)
^ You say that, and ok - I take it. However, last night I finished the mission where the black guy was helping the white guy out (sorry - can't remember their names) to get the yacht.
That game finished with me taking the black guy character back home, which is when I ran into the women in the house doing some hippy stuff...and my character walked out the house...it then went to a cut scene where he was interacting with other characters, but I didn't want to complete that, so I left the game (I had only gone to the house to save).
When I fired it up this morning I was the white guy, sitting in a car near his house. Absolutely no idea why or what has gone on.
I genuinely don't think anyone is playing my game - however I'm confused what the game is doing ???
Ok - as far as Rockstar Social Club is concerned, I'm sorted - in a sense.
I can use my original wmar1967 account for both Max Payne 3 and GTA V. I've reset the password so it's more secure.
As far as my new account and GTA IV, I'm not bothered - I wasn't going to play GTA IV again anyway - I just wanted to make sure I could get into Social Club because I remember there was a problem.
The only thing that's a bit out of whack and I'd like fixed it getting rid of the new account so I can use my new email account. But it's no big deal. I've got a copy of the info for future reference

I get the BSOD or nvidia driver crash once every couple of hours. First I thought it was heat related so I put up hwmonitor on my second monitor while I played and the last time it crashed everything was just fine temp wise.
The game is phenomenally fun. Its as if all the 'oh man wouldn't it be cool if's I had from GTA3 were put into a game.

Nope - go ahead. I have no idea what I'm doing for friend links etc - so it might be a while before I reply or accept :P

I've had all sorts of issues over the last few days with Social Club, but not that I'm afraid.
I bought my game on Steam also. I do think your Social Club has to be linked to your Steam account - maybe that's the issue?
However - new issue.
Every single time I start this game up now, I'm automatically taken to the New Character screen for online mode. I didn't select online mode and when I first got and installed the game, it went to a screen that allowed me to choose online or story mode (and I choose story) but it's getting pretty tiring having to wait for the online character creation part to show up and finish it's cut scene before I can actually escape and get into story mode.
Anyone suffering from that?

I do think your Social Club has to be linked to your Steam account - maybe that's the issue?
But it is linked. I can see it on my Social Club page. I played it this morning. Came back to it later this afternoon and now it's asking for this. WTF are they playing at.
I don't know buddy. I've noticed some screwy stuff myself. I'm not saying they're bugs....just weird. I wasn't expecting to exit the game as a character in story mode only to be loaded as a different character in a different story :idiot2:
Now I've got this online crap showing up each time. It might go away if I actually create an online character - but I don't want to...yet.
Contacted Rockstar suport.
Let me get this straight - the Rockstar Activation code of the steam version is the actual steam key -right?
I honestly honestly do not know.
I'm pretty confused with it myself. It's probably simple and I'm over thinking it.
All I know is my GTA V automatically registered with my OLD Rockstar Social Club account...something I didn't think it would do because my Max Payne 3 game would not link to the old account until I put the details in - which I couldn't remember.
Then it turned out I did remember (though the details I entered were, I'm certain, the same details I tried the night before).
It's been pretty screwy with me and it started with me not remembering my login details. After that, there were twists and turns all over the place. But GTA V did register with Rockstar Social Club (my old account) all by itself.
Well, I'm computer-savvy and I know I've changed nothing on my system over the 3 hours between game sessions so I'm assuming Rockstar might have been pissing about with something at their end, possibly to fix other reported issues.
I found a setting in the game that said Load Online on startup. I guess I may well have changed that.
But once again I've loaded up as a different character even though I exited in Story Mode as a different character and a different part of the story. I wish it would stop doing that. It's very disconcerting. I don't know if I'm missing parts of the story with this method...I'm certainly not being able to continue where I left off which breaks the impetus you build up when going through story mode. I don't like the mechanic at all...not one bit.
Some initial impressions
The Good
- Huge open world
- Lots to drive around and do
- Superb music list
- Great characters
- Great story lines
- Superb graphics
The bad
- Very confusing save/load procedure
- Driving mechanics (mainly due to camera swing)
- Cut scenes take a loooooong time in most cases
Overall - I'm impressed. It's much like Far Cry 3 and 4 in the sense there's a big open world there with quite a bit to do. I went to the cinema earlier! O0
Wow, IGN gave this game a 10 and calls it a "Masterpiece." Never seen either of those before. Best Game Evar?

QuoteGrand Theft Auto 5 is not only a preposterously enjoyable video game, but also an intelligent and sharp-tongued satire of contemporary America. It represents a refinement of everything that GTA 4 brought to the table five years ago. It's technically more accomplished in every conceivable way, but it's also tremendously ambitious in its own right. No other world in video games comes close to this in size or scope, and there is sharp intelligence behind its sense of humour and gift for mayhem. It tells a compelling, unpredictable, and provocative story without ever letting it get in the way of your own self-directed adventures through San Andreas.
It is one of the very best video games ever made.
I was in wait-for-reviews mode based on past experience with the series, but obviously that wait is over. Fired it up last night, only an hour or so and it was a fairly impressive beginning. Not sure I'm crazy about handling the car with the WSAD, but I haven't even tried adjusting keyboard sensitivity. I presume that is something I can do; otherwise, it's overly-twitchy and I had a little trouble moving in a straight line. Been playing a buttload of Euro Truck Simulator 2 recently, with similar controls, so I should be decent at it.
I wonder if they'll use some of that $1 Billion+ dollars they made to improve their support service.
I already bought the game on STEAM. I don't care for having to sign into 'Social Club' to play the damn thing. Layer upon layer of copy protection is not a good experience, and especially when, like my issue, the Social Club sign in fails and you are left in the cold. Sorry about the rant, but really, not happy. I'm sick up the neck with sodding tech/software issues.
'Your game is not registered'. Yes it sodding is. 'Please register again'. OK, I'll repeat events like Groundhog Day. 'Sorry, Error in activating'. Go to hell.
There are 'game fixes' available but i don't know if they are legal (guess they are mostly used by pirates) so i won't post them here.
You bought the game and you can't play it as you like, so i think this should be allowed to bypass the extra DRM layer.

I feel for you man. Particularly when the extra level of DRM seems pointless.
I know a guy at work who is using the game with none of the Social Club bollox. Go figure. He pays nothing and gets a trouble free gaming experience. You pay and you're f*cked.
DRM can do one :knuppel2:
Thanks for the replies. Well, my anti virus is flagging it as a virus now. Scanned with two differnt AV's, and its clean, however one quarantines it the moment it's clicked. I think I've had enough for tonight.
UPDATE: re-verified steam files and its not a virus. Scans clean now.
Hey everyone!
My brother and I are looking for some mature folks to do Heists with us, people with some semblance of patience. Heists can be rather involved and take multiple steps, so inviting people you trust are a must. We generally play together Thursday-Sunday in the evening until whenever (US time zones). I would trust most anyone from Grogheads, so if your interested leave your social club ID so I can look you up. Just go with the flow and work like a team.
As far as driving, it can be tricky and requires practice. At sane speeds the cars are controllable. At insane speeds, that is where practice comes in. When you buzz through red lights going 120, your going to need some skill.
I have really only played the online portion of the game, but saving is pretty seamless there.

So far I have pretty much been assuming that nobody is coming on the red lights. . . .
Also, is it just in the first mission or are these cars well-nigh indestructible? For sure, it took a lickin' and kept on tickin'. None of that inconvenient tires dragging against the smashed quarter-panels or anything.
My ID is bombastulin, but I'm so new you probably don't want to play with me. But anybody here can try me in a couple of weeks.
The cars can take a lot of damage, but their performance decreases as damage increases. I would prefer a more realistic damage model, but its still a blast.
I think generally for the heists, we need shooters and not drivers. So, once you get decent with that we can do heists. As I said, we are just looking for mature adults that have more than a 10 second attention span. Ill add you to my friends, come and play with us when your comfortable.

Maybe this is of interest to all GTA players :
Rockstar Social Club Accounts Stolen : http://www.bluesnews.com/s/160913/rockstar-social-club-accounts-stolen
That does not surprise me tbh
I think I'll make a note of the details of the game when I'm finished and then see what they're like when I start up again.
So, dumb question. Does this iteration of GTA let you blow through red lights with cops sitting there, ignoring you?
I've always found it good that it doesn't come after you for stuff like that, because otherwise it would take FOREVER to get from one side of the map to the other, or even just down the block.

I
think so. I can't say for sure, but I have blasted through many, MANY red lights and I can't believe there hasn't been a policeman around.
They are very active when you shoot someone but I haven't been chased once going through red lights.
I think IV got a lot better about you blowing down the street with reckless abandon, hitting other cars with aplomb and no worry of consequences. In IV they'll come after you/chase you down, sometimes even shoot at you (though rarely). I know mowing down civvies on the sidewalk will give you wanted stars, but having a Crazy Taxi/destruction derby moment or twenty hardly ever gets the law's attention.
Today's update has fixed my issue, and I have to say a big thanks to their telephone support which was exemplary.
Now, back to mayhem...
Still only played about 3 hours, but the traffic laws seem to be rather loosely enforced. Blowing through red lights, side-swiping vehicles, and plowing through groups of pedestrians don't appear much to be frowned upon.
Just got past the torture scene. That was the most awful and powerfully thought-provoking gaming experiences I've ever seen, and to play through it, was horrible.
Spoiler-free warning: it's not good, but if you play through it (there's no option to skip) there's a strong point that Trevor makes at the end and it's not a dark ending.
lol
