Title: Iron Grip Warlord - New DLC - Scorched Earth
Post by: spelk on May 03, 2012, 04:43:52 AM
Iron Grip Warlord is getting DLC today entitled Scorched Earth, includes new weapons and a Deathmatch mode.

One of my favourite indie, steampunk, FPS/Tower Defence hybrid strategy games from a long while ago. I guess they're trying to breathe some life into it again.

Is it primarily single or multiplayer? I've always been interested but have never pulled the trigger.

I can be played both, single player with bots. However, whenever I've attempted to play multiplayer the servers have always been very sparsely populated.

Single player against bots its an excellent third person/first person tower defence game, where you have to run around the map and place turrets (machine gun, anti-tank), and traps (poison, mines, trip-wires), and healing stations for your bot-men. Upgrading and repairing them, using your savvy and mobility, whilst purchasing better guns to make a difference and hold back the steampunk tide. Kill an enemy Officer and pick up his chain gun, lay waste to them all!

I jumped back in last night, and played a few single player games. It's pretty good for a knockabout. The DLC enhances some of the weapons, but also adds a Nuke that once built is on a timer before it kicks off. It keeps the game from devolving into a long drawn out battle of attrition. Let the enemy snake around the map and gain a handhold, and they'll be building the Nuke before you know it!

Looked on the servers, there was still nobody playing it online. Even with the DLC hitting Steam yesterday. Graphics are not brilliant, but they've been jazzed up a bit.

I really like the starting weapons, a molotov cocktail, a big Knife, and a single shot musket. You have to start building and killing to get the moolah to be able to afford an  assault rifle and better.

I'll be leap frogging between this and Napoleon for my strategic gunnery this weekend.

Maybe the Iron Grip guys are a little nervous about the release of Toy Soldiers?
