Title: Follow me down to the FRIDAY
Post by: MetalDog on May 01, 2015, 05:54:22 AM

It's not a game, but, the weekend will consist of AVENGERS 2 AGE OF ULTRON until otherwise notified!  Then, and only then, will there be some games.  Most likely a combination of Age of Wonders III, Sovereignty and/or Civ IV mp.

As last weekend, GTA 5 and Sovereignty Crown of Kings.

Civ4 Colonization and GalCivIII at minimum. Also, get my Dell Studio Slim 540 ready to be replaced by my new Alienware Alpha due to arrive next week!

Couple of PBEM games to get turns out for.... and write up one for an AAR.

Maybe some CiV as that bug has bitten me once again... 1600+ hours...   :crazy2:

Write up a review.

Finally get my backyard, deck, and pool ready for summer.... before it's over next week.  :P

Played a lot of Order of Battle: Pacific last night. Will probably do more this weekend.

Started up The Witcher this week (finally got it to work). Might do more of that this weekend too. Never played it past the first few stages in the castle at the beginning.

Need to complete edits on the next GrogCast.

Expecting to play some Quartermaster General (for review purposes) and do some more of my AAR on Ottoman Sunset. Also would like to get the B-29 Hell Over Korea AAR/review started, too.

I'm hoping to get some review product from VPG and DVG also, so I'm pretty much in boardgaming Nirvana at the moment. Boardgaming withdrawal is not a pretty thing.

Long weekend in the UK.

I might go and see Age of Ultron for the 3rd time. I liked it that much.

Gaming, I plan to bring out B-17 Queen of the Skies and set it up on a board.

The very excellent Assetto Corsa, F1 2014, GTA V or Far Cry 4 and (if I remember) some Steel Beasts Pro tutorials (just for Asid!  :) )

How do you go about getting "review" products?

Continue the Operation Bagration campaign in Battle Academy 2, and then maybe some Sniper Elite v2. Then on Tuesday the Wolfenstein expansion is released! Some good Nazi killin' queued up.

I don't know the band MetalDog but the opening/underlying chords reminded me of Motorhead if you sped them up a touch.  The video was very easy to watch. :)

After listening to Grogcast 6 w/Airborne Rifles twice this week I'm going to try to get in some Flashpoint Campaigns: Red Storm.  I'd love to give Command: Modern Air/Naval Operations a try but the price point is a little high for me right now.  The podcast even motivated me to break out Red Storm Rising and start reading that for the hundredth time.

I also fired up the original X-Com and have started a game on Superhuman w/house rules.  Nothing will replace the feeling of an alien grenade landing on the ramp of your Skyranger as your very green squadies are disembarking.  Seven of 14 of the team members were killed but the remaining 7 STILL managed to clear a terror site.  Not bad for they're 3rd mission.

I may finally get around to playing some Age Of Wonder 3: Eternal Lords.

I'm sure Shadowrun Boston Chronicles servers will be overloaded this weekend, so it will have to wait if the lag is too annoying.   I've also not tried Sovereignty early access yet, despite having purchased it the day it came out.  Not been feeling very digital gamey still.

Gonna pull out a solitaire tabletop game if nothing else takes.  Got plenty calling to me right now, plus the hordes of counters to punch & clip in Great Battles of Alexander Expanded Deluxe edition.  Even the name takes awhile to get out.

Meanwhile back at the Farm:  Mordor!  and Panzerblitz 2 Hill of Death!  It's a pretty bloody mess out there in gaming land.  I'm loving
Shadow of Mordor and in PZ2 a sneaky German recon halftrack just REALLY DISRUPTED (DD -- that's double Big D) a platoon of Bren gun carriers at about 700 meters from a concealed hill-top entrenchment.  Those Germans.  They are like Elite Elven Wundertruppen!
And in Mordor -- I guess I'm pruning into a Wraith.  And no wonder -- all work and no play makes Talion a wraith.  But the whacky combat makes it all worthwhile.

Gallipoli with Boggit PBEM -- Game #1 definitely going to the ANZAC

Sicily with Panzerde and Barth

CM:BS with Panzerde -- things are now getting very 'splodey

Leipzig with Panzerde if somebody who is not named me sends a turn...although I gather my guy is down with the evil...

Given the Up Front! kerfluffle, finally going to have a go at Frontline: D-Day and see if it fills that niche.

Best,

Jim

I'm looking forward weekend of leisure and tranquility watching the Opinion-ators rip each other over the new Order of Battle: Pacific. Along with a dip in the pool to wash the blood off when needed. ;D And see where I left the German Confederation in Rome 2. Oh, and spend some time with the wife. I think she still lives here. :buck2:

I'm playing a great scenario in SPMBT right now made custom for me by wulfir over at the Shrapnel Games SPMBT forums. It's putting my old battalion (1/325 Airborne Infantry Regiment) as a blocking force to stop the Russian attempt to break out of the Krefeld Salient in 1985 from Ian Hackett's The Third World War. It's the start of a custom campaign for me from wulfir. Lots of fun, and maybe an AAR in the future.

Speaking of AARs, I'll also be trying to finish up my H-Hour scenario and AAR in CMANO so I can move on to Northern Fury scenarios # 2.

Well anyone who knows me will know this is yet again a no-surprise weekend.

XCOM- Enemy Within: LongWar Mod - I have mecs, gauss, psi... life is good.... ramping up the air war now

WoT - my brother and I will platoon a bit. This game is losing some shine.

FWIW I am looking for another turnbased game... maybe

Busy weekend for me - this is planned. My wife :smitten: may have a view on it! C:-)

First World War Anzac Campaign with Cyrano, playing Anzac's
Commander Great War with me playing Entente vs Sauron's 'Beastly Hun' ;)
Field of Glory MP - Early Hoplite Greek (Boggit) vs Illyrians  (Ian Carbutt - Ian C?)
Early HYW English (Boggit) vs Medieval French (Sauron)
Later Macedonian (Boggit) vs Bosporan (Mid) (Gian Franco Cimino)
CM - finishing off a CMFI SP game, probably do another CM game...
Prepping a WinSPWW2 East Front game with Sauron. Boggit fighting for Mother Russia, while Sauron plugs for the 3rd Reich.
Competing plagues with Plague Evolved Inc, with my daughter as we each try to wipe out the human race before a cure is found. She will probably win on points, as she plays more of it than I do. I want to play the Planet of the Apes "Simian Flu" scenario if I get the chance.
Sovereignty - Crown of Kings - SP - on-going for article (and fun), and Order of Battle:Pacific - if I get time... ::)

If I can get to the point where I'm neither doing a reasonable imitation of a TB victim nor completely high on the 'tussin, you'll have a turn coming. I started last night but ended up distracted by Trailer Park Boys on Netflix.

Oh I should be playing, Brother Against Brother (now the new patch is out), possibly Order of Battle: Pacific, and Shadowrun Chronicles (or Shadowrun Dragonfall - dependant upon lag on servers). Plus a bit of DC Universe Online if time permits.

Must be going around.

I'm only getting over the last bit of one I've had almost two weeks.  Damn ridiculous.  Probably should've got some antibiotics but I hate going to the Doc's office, being a stubborn SOB.

Hopefully your TB doesn't last that long.

Just remember- most colds are caused by viruses. Antibiotics don't do shit against them while making incidental bacteria more resistant due to constant exposure to the same antibiotics. Antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria owe their existence to the needless distribution of antibiotics to diseases they were never meant to cure.

Having begun my annual re-reading of Steven Pressfield's superb Tides of War, I'm in the mood for some Peloponnesian War action, so I'll probably be spending some more time with my Athens campaign in Rome II: Wrath of Sparta this weekend.

Also want to spend some time with two very different fantasy titles, Sovereignty and Shadows of Mordor (the latter of which I just purchased).

Finally, as is nearly always the case, I'm feeling the need for some space 4x action.  I just haven't decided which game I want to go with -- Distant Worlds, Armada 2526, or good old Birth of the Federation (I've been playing Ultimate Mod 5 quite a bit lately).  All are very appealing right now!  Decisions, decisions...

Feels like I am just starting one. I was great last night except for some random sneezing. Today... sinuses are on fire and I'm feeling generally lousy. Hopefully it's just allergies but my youngest is on the bounce-back from a cold so the odds are it's the real thing.

I used to have hayfever (suddenly stopped thankfully) so I know from experience how unpleasant it is.  You guys who have it have my sympathy.  Fortunately it's generally treatable with antihistamines.

I'm in your camp on this. If I don't have an artery gushing blood I don't see what good going to the doctor will do. It may be that growing up around hospitals (mom was a nurse) and then having worked at one has put me off the entire idea...

Last night I played Diablo 3 and drank Bushmills until the early hours of the morning. As soon as my head clears up I'm going to be diving into Command with some scenario creation. Almost done with my first US/UK vs EU scenario. Most of the AI missions and scripting are in place but I still have some major balance issues I need to work out. Most notably, the players air defense (currently 2 Burkes, 2 Darings, 4 Type 23s) is too overwhelming for the two French carriers air wings to score any hits without massive attrition.

Not sure how much gaming I'm going to get in tomorrow. Weather is going to be nicer then it is today and if the weather man isn't lying then I'm going to head out for some hiking. If I get any gaming in it will probably be more Command or Diablo 3 but I'm not ruling out Kerbal Space Program, EUIV, or Distant Worlds.

For all the yapping I do in these threads I really haven't been gaming much at all.  Last night, though, I did fire up Take Command: 2nd Manassas with the CMP 4.0 mod and gave a sandbox fight on the Antietam map a spin.  I have to say that the graphics weren't as bad as I feared and the game holds up surprisingly well.  One area where SoW clearly outshines TC is in the use of couriers.  I didn't realize just how much I enjoyed playing the game using couriers until they weren't available to give orders anymore as in TC.  I didn't like that aspect much.

Overall, though, given the huge amount of free content available for TC:2M I'm calling it Toonces's MUST BUYTM for the month of May if you have a strong interest in the American Civil War.
