Title: Big Trouble in Little China remale

http://www.thewrap.com/dwayne-the-rock-johnson-to-star-in-big-trouble-in-little-china-remake-exclusive/

I'm not sure how I feel about this, as I loved the original... back when Kim Cattrall was hot.

The Rock is not the right guy for playing Jack Burton. Too big. Need a Chris Pratt type. Olivia Wilde would be a good replacement for Kim. Not getting a warm fuzzy on this one

+1 It would be a great role for Pratt.

Chris Pratt would be perfect for the role.

Unfortunately, most of the 80s movie remakes have lost some writing elements & underlying themes that made them great.  Most of these remakes are missing the mark to some degree.

I'll be very sad if they can't catch the mood of the original.  One of my favorite old 'camp' movies.

Agreed, but he's going to be in EVERYTHING soon.  Gotta give some hero roles to others.

He's this generation's Harrison Ford.

Eh, while I agree Chris Pratt (no relation) would play closer to the original "Jack Burton" character, the Rock has comedy chops and could play the Big American Fish Out Of Water role reasonably well. He might seem too competent, though.

Still, yeah, a movie that does not need to be remade. Sigh.

Well, they could have picked Ryan Reynolds to play Jack Burton; in which scenario Dwayne Johnson doesn't look so bad.

Generally, I would agree with you, 100%.

But I tried watching it with my 11 year-old.  He scoffed at it as old, with cheap effects.  I was appalled.  But if I was a Hollywood executive, I would have immediately seen an open door to use a proven formula to make money off of a new audience.  My kid loves Dwayne Johnson.

FYI, I'd remake Buckaroo Bonzai too, if I were a Hollywood Exec.

I actually think The Rock could work quite well. He's got decent comic chops, and a guy that big just bumbling around and not actually accomplishing anything would be pretty hilarious.

All we need now is a Buckeroo Banzai remake and we're golden.

I don't know why they even try.  Hollywood has proven itself to be totally incompetent these days.  Any remake it just going to be an embarrassing abomination.   :buck2:

Not even slightly interested in this one.

My wife and I walked out of Evita even though I only paid 99 cents to see it. That movie should be used to interrogate terrorists at Gitmo.

I'll call you on Evita and raise you Dick Tracy. That was one of two films I ever walked out of.

The only other one I walked out of was South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut. Though I walked out more because I was exhausted and didn't pay for it in the first place so sleep trumped entertainment.

Evita was so bad that even Antonio Banderas walked out of it. And he was in it. :coolsmiley:

Yeah, Dick Tracy.  That's back when radio watches were pure science fiction.

Speaking as someone who actually likes the Dick Tracy movie, even I don't like the Dick Tracy movie.  :P

Also, I would like to thank everyone who noticed the actual thread title and didn't make jokes about how to "re-male" BTiLC. ;)

C40, I thought the effects were (mostly) pretty terrible even back when it was first released (or first on video, I didn't catch it in theaters).

But yeah, a lot better could be done along that line. I just don't know how to remake it effectively without simply making it a shot for shot homage. Too much of the film is iconically great as it is, fx aside.

Somehow, I don't think we have to fear a remake of any of the 'The Animal' movies.

Hopefully not 'Animal House' either. Some things should remain sacred after all.

That was a terrible movie.  Mostly because it starred Rob Schneider.  The rest of the reason is because Rob Schneider was in it.

Agreed.  Hard to see how a remake could improve on the original insanity.
