Looking forward to it.  But another 2.5 years to go.  That's a bit too much wait for me to KS something.

The one available on GOG that came out in 2004....A Bard's Tale...was, in my humble opinion, an awful game. Is this new one from the same company/people?

I saw that, too. But after waiting two years for the DRM-Free version of Worlds of Magic, an additional six months isn't that long.

Yes, inXile entertainment is shown on GOG's release (http://www.gog.com/game/the_bards_tale) and inXile entertainment is listed on the Kickstarter (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inxile/the-bards-tale-iv).

You know, I purchased the retail boxed version of 2004's The Bard's Tale and later purchased the digital version from GOG and I don't remember ever playing either one. But I bet The Bard's Tale IV will at least be technologically superior to the original 1985 The Bard's Tale as well as 2004's release. Whether it will be a better game than either of its predecessors remains to be seen. But the 2004 release garnered a Metascore of 70 and a User Score of 77 (http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/the-bards-tale) which ain't too shabby.

But it's all a matter of personal perspective and no matter how good / bad a game may be it will always have its detractors / fans. At this moment The Bard's Tale IV Kickstarter has already raised $691,136 of its $1,250,000 goal and I think that says a LOT.
