BREAKING NEWS: Four Marines were killed Thursday at a Chattanooga, Tenn., Navy training center, in what authorities called a possible "act of domestic terrorism" that consisted of two attacks carried out by a lone gunman at military facilities just seven miles apart, officials said.

The shooter also was killed. Two law enforcement sources told CBS News that the shooting suspect was identified as Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez.

Horrible. I'm stunned, shocked, saddened, pissed.

The most likely place a murderer can have a spree. As evidenced by many of the public killing sprees lately.
At least the current Administration hasn't begun calling this "Workplace violence" yet. ::)
Well you don't see them trotting out to condemn the attack/murder of military personnel either.

Yet.
I hear the words "religion of peace" and this is how I feel: (https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fs2.quickmeme.com%2Fimg%2F9d%2F9d488c4dd6b949416c85906c5bd7a4c3d3163632d5606a6a068e487c0f3a2d73.jpg&hash=02e3b80e1918a9e80083b33bbe003598b9c4853b)
Much like the SC murders, I'll be happy to see this vermin put down. I assume that the reactionaries will now demand the removal of Islamic iconography.

Of course. Just hold your breath until that happens. Any time now, I'm sure.

Looks like a Chattanooga PD or a Hamilton County Sheriff's Deputy took him out.
Terrible. Terrible and nerve-racking.
It's sounding like the FBI is sending 200 agents to investigate. Some are thinking tey may of had a sniff that something was in the works, just not enough details to pin it down.
Prayers with those killed and their families.

Why can't we issue all active duty personal a sidearm? I'm sure if the Marines in the recruiting office had been armed this would have been over much quicker and with a better result.
And +1. Thanks to the professional law enforcement in Chattanooga who reacted swiftly and well.
So now find his brothers, sisters, mother, father, uncles and aunties and cousins and make their life an unmentionable hell - make the next c*** think 'shit if I do this then that's what happens to my family' make it something to make them think twice - without and repercussions or reprisals they've nothing to lose but becoming a martyr with a hole in his face and that's what they want - I want them to sit in their little hovel before embarking on their holy mission and know some terrible shitstorm is coming to theirs
Rumor has it he, and maybe his father worked for TVA, which is who pretty much runs all the power and nuke plants along the TN river down into Georgia and Alabama an up to Oak Ridge.
EDIT: Looks like he was an intern and technically not an employee at TVA.

That kind of stuff just reduces us to their level of barbarism and they win. Catching them, hopefully before this happens, and not allowing them to die is the worse kind of hell for them. Killing them just makes them martyrs and heroes for others to follow.
Normally I'm all for the death penalty for any crime the takes another's life but in this case you need to fight that urge and make their life a living hell.
im not really advocating killing them apart from when theyre actually caught in the act - this will never stop if the only circumstance is going to be everyone wearing a ribbon saying 'youll never break us' - they dont care. What have they got to lose, theres no reprisals, no action taken, nothing - make them think whilst theyre loading the gun, and strapping on the bomb vest, 'is this really what i want to do' because what they do that day is going to cost every member of their family something
and if the jihadi brotherhood HQ have to sit down in a few months and discuss running out of martyrs ill get down to their level for a while
you know what brought the IRA to the table? the UDF blowing catholics up everytime an IRA bomb went off - you kill one of ours we kill one of yours
Yeah but these whack jobs are just as busy killing their own as well. They value life way less than we do. Our taking things out on the families will just act as recruiting speeches for them. The ones that becomes martyrs don't give a rats ass about anybody.. even their own....
TVA eh...a little more nerve racking. Where is the father now?
CNN says that he worked at wiring and cable manufacturing firm called Superior Essex, Inc. Apparently a normal kid and athlete, except that he was religiously Muslim. They say that he is likely Palestinian, but is known as a Jordanian who was born in Kuwait. CNN reports that he "went home" in 2014, visiting both Kuwait and Jordan; the implication being that he may have been radicalized there.

The Navy Sailor that was shot has now died.
Yes the "news" also says they don't and may never know the motive behind the killings. I guess he didn't pose with a mini flag.
RU responds again.

I can understand the sentiment behind this - and the logic of deterrence. On the flip side you criminalise people who weren't necessarily involved, and thus innocent. There is no certainty that family will share the same views - witness in the UK the views of the husbands of women who left to IS with their children recently. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/isis-sisters-feared-joined-islamic-5921046 I have no problem throwing the book at the guilty, but it is just wrong to take things out on the innocent, and is a slippery slope to despotic government for everyone. While the likes of IS will do that which you suggest, are you really sure that you'd want the unintended consequences?
Far better to catch the terrorists, find out as much as possible from them, then lock them up with no possibility of reprieve.
Did I hear correctly that the guard post was unarmed? ???
Also, I know I heard the recruitment post was a "gun-free zone" (right??), but I'd sure like someone to explain the legalities of that to me.

I don't know about the guard post but that's probably correct.
As for the recruiting center, IIRC I saw Gen Odierno on TV explaining how they'd have to think about the policy. Apparently some of these stations are in malls. He was also concerned about accidental discharges.
Personally neither of those excuses makes much sense to me. That's probably why I'm unfit for leadership in DC.
Apparently the sailor and one of the Marines did return fire. In the link below it discusses how both used "personal weapons" to return fire. It's unclear exactly what that means.
At the bottom of the article is a paragraph explaining why the Marines were unarmed. More info at the link.
QuoteThe ban is largely due to legal issues, such as the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, which prohibits the federal government from using the military for domestic law enforcement. U.S. forces don't routinely carry guns when they are not in combat or on military bases. And Pentagon officials are sensitive to any appearance of armed troops within the United States.
