Several actors were -- I think a new one played him each time. (Checking, yep; had forgotten Eli Wallach played him last!) But yes -- though I don't know how many others were world-class directors! (I had forgotten Diana Rigg was even ever on the show...? ??? Oh, you meant on the Avengers, duh... :uglystupid2: )
I heartily recommend the article series by Chris Sims at ComicsAlliance, doing a review of every episode once a week (and nearing the end of the first season I think): http://comicsalliance.com/tags/batman-66-episode-guide/ Obviously they're in reverse order with the newest ones on top.
His Batman film review series (http://comicsalliance.com/tags/cinematic-batmanology/) is excellent, too. That two page list is slightly out of order, with 89 Batman reposted for its 25th anniversary near the end. I seem to recall a few of the pages once didn't link right, though that was hopefully fixed by the editors when they went back to post the first review of the series.
