Sad when someone from the states has to create the thread.
Where's the video? It's not a Friday thread without a video!
you need a video, a linked theme in the thread title and a capital FRIDAY!!!!
like most things the Europeans wanted to give you a chance and were waiting for you to catch up

My weak attempt

You bunch of Flyboys! The weekend is here and it's crappy weather in Fla. so play, I say. I shall "Rule The Waves" or sink under them as Italy beating-up on Austria but there's a new Area Of Recruitment mod for Attila that's calling my name. Louder and louder in fact. The way my wife does when she wants something non-game related me to do. Nice at first, then louder and faster before things begin to be thrown. Luckily, she's a terrible aim and I sit close to expensive breakable things. Happy Gaming Weekend Grogs.
What will you guys do when you run out of videos? ::)
My wife is going out of town for the weekend, so there WILL be games.
Mostly VPG stuff as I have some reviews and AARs to get going. Astra Titanus to be sure; Cruel Necessity most likely; Bulge 20 perhaps...
Also some Game of Thrones on Steam (finally bit the bullet and grabbed it as it's 50% off this weekend, and nearly complete - my kids were very jealous of me, lol), and some Warhammer 40K Armageddon to see what that's all about...

Record your own? My wife is making a documentary about me. Horribly funny so far. No games have been harmed in the recording sessions yet. So I will be trying to play some respectable games this weekend while the cameras roll:
Board games -- respectable by their very nature as map-like objects surrounded by legalistic verbiage AND gambling equipment.
Vassal ---------- as respectable as email
Flight sims ----- I will be wearing headphones and what's more respectable than somebody who can't hear anything you say to them?
Attila ----------- Headphones!!!
I also have a glorious family-free weekend up so I will be gaming my bum off.
First, I don't see any way I won't be going all-in on ARMA 3, especially on the King of the Hill servers.
Next, I will likely knock out a few more games in Axis Football.
I have the HOTAS set up and I have a strong desire to get back into a good flight sim, so IL-2, WoFF, DCS, or BMS Falcon are potential games.
Finally, I'm considering really trying to learn a tank sim, either Steel Beasts Pro or Steel Armor.
I finally got my
WitP:AE turn out to UCG. Between the actual game and the AAR there's so little time for anything else, including meals, sleep, and work.
And in a completely random video post, here's one of my favorite "Get Me Motivated" songs.
I really want to sneak in some
OOTP 16. We'll see how forgiving UCG is on that.

Do you and Geek know what you've let yourself in for? Attilla60 and Jejo68 have been playing their MP game for over 4 years now - I kid you not! :o
Sort of undecided. May mess around some more in the half-dreadful Godzilla VS. I bought yesterday for $50 (after already knowing the game was at least under-developed); but it's making me want to play Kaiju-a-Go-Go, which in turn makes me wish GVs was better... :-\
Still about half a game of Far Cry 4 to go; may get back to it.
May try to write up the next phase of my "Volunteers AAR" from a 1st Bull Run mod for Take Command 2.
I feel kind-of Warhammery but don't quite know what to go with there. Space Hulk: Ascension perhaps, or one of SH's competitors. Possibly look into "Survive Harder Season 3" for the AAR series I wrote in Blood Bowl: Chaos Edition. Warhammer: Regicide (chess+) is only around $15 right now, but I'm not sure it's out of Early Access yet. I can't help but wish Mordheim's beta development would move along faster; I already bought into that, and don't regret doing so yet, but it still feels too incomplete to really enjoy. I don't feel it's time yet to go back to "PanzOrc Corpz Generals", the AAR I was doing for Fantasy Wars (having storied up half the campaign), but after all it's basically Warhammer miniatures mixed with Panzer General. I'm still occasionally plugging along on the 3PShooter Space Marine, but I have a hard time appreciating that game for some reason. Maybe go back to WH40K: Armageddon?
Felt a bit Spidermannish after beating Arkham Knight a few weeks back; I've got a replay of Web of Shadows I'm around 3/4 complete on, but I felt more like starting a new run on Shattered Dimensions, so I'm around 1/8th into that already. May do some more of either.

Honestly, the game turns aren't that bad and can usually be knocked out in less than 30 minutes. The AAR however, is an insatiable beast.
Multiplayer
4 Field of Glory games on with Sauron, IMC, and another of my gaming friends titusgroan
1 game of Commander: the Great War with Sauron
1 game of JTS' First World War with Cyrano (He's playing Johnny Turk, while I play the Wallabies in our ongoing Anzac Campaign) - and he kicked my ar*e pretty hard in our last scenario, so the upcoming game has the ANZAC's honour at stake!
Single Player
I need to get some time in with AGEOD's TEAW, and NWS' RTW, which at first sight is looking fascinating.
If I get the chance I might get a bit further on with JTS' Normandy '44 Full alt campaign with me playing 'Les amis' against the Nazi horde, and some Combat Mission. I've also been playing FTL as a quickie game - that is a lot of fun.

Have you ever played it multi-player?
It's something I did wonder about playing SP over the weekend as well, time permitting.
Weekend of solitude which means not getting washed or dressed until Sunday afternoon!
Ill be PBEMing with KyzBP in WitPAE, another game with an old friend, i ignored Pearl and went straight to the DEI with the KB, its like watching a cat amongst a flock of pigeons
Im gunning for an ASP in Elite
And im either going to try ny hand at Arma III KoH or the new survival mod

Hmm...somebody woke up on the wrong side of the tea and crumpet table this morning!
Trying to resist the urge of Rule the Waves.
Well mostly board gaming this weekend with the family. Carcassonne for sure and already knocked out about 8 games each of Crazy 8s and Go Fish! I'm pretty sure we'll punch counters for Smallworld and attempt a game or two of that one too.
PC side of the house. I need to finish up my Warlock campaign and maybe some Sentinels of the Multiverse.
I'm already knee-deep in ARMA 3 with one intense KOTH session done. W00t! O0
Going to try to get in some World of Warships and maybe send a few Kerbals to Kerbal keaven. Also picked up X Rebirth for a tenner on a whim while it was on sale (thanks GMG) so will download and check it out. Also count me in as one trying to resist picking up Rule the Waves...
More Armada 2526 Supernova I hope. And I've started work again on my Horizon 4X Star Trek mod. I want to try to finish it this time so I can play it!
More like,
...because basically screw responsibility over the next few days. Don' wanna go to school today, I think I'd rather go (in)side and play (games).
I rest easier knowing that ucg is skulking naked and drunk in a quiet corner somewhere.
I'm looking at starting a Vandal campaign in Attila - Total War: The Last Roman and to finally getting some Ryse: Son of Rome in.
According to UCG, the UK gets louder, fatter, and more obnoxious the further north you go...I can't imagine him sitting in a corner somewhere "quietly" anything. :D
^He's a soft southern wazzock, take no notice of him...........
bastards
Lots of Worlds of Magic now that it's finally playable.
Not sure what else. Interstellar Marines has completed its transition to Unity 5 so I might give that shot. Also Terraria has just entered beta for Linux with much fanfare...not sure what it can offer that Starbound doesn't but I might as well take a look since I already "own" it.
Gonna have to add The Talos Principle to the list. I've heard nothing but amazing things about it and it's currently on sale so....yeah.
Kicked Friday off with mission 7 of the "Friday Night Bombing Missions" which is a weekly MP event hosted by the community for IL2 Battle of Stalingrad. It's basically an MP dynamic Campaign where the losses and progress are tracked and updated manually to give a persistent battlefield effect.
Then later tonight it's another round of Iron Front MP CoOP.
Already played me some Warhammer 40K Armageddon. Two hours' worth, lost track of time.
Continue with WITE, its not as hard to learn as i imagined. The UI is really well done. Now that i've played the "road to Minsk" 3 turn scenario 6 times, twice as the Russians to see how the AI handles the Germans, I'm moving on to bigger things "the road to Leningrad" . For a change of pace i picked up Quake 2. I finished it years ago, one of my favorite shooters. I got it all modded out with new textures and playing with the KMquake exe. I forgot the game has a 4 barrel shotgun :D so i'm gonna shoot some strogg"s in the face. I also loaded up Dark Messiah of might and magic a different FPS, as in "first person swordplay" so after WITE sucks my brain dry, I'll just go shoot some shit or stab some shit.

BC: and?? Impressions? Feelings? Likes? COME ON MAN
LOL - I had started another thread and lengthy post but I decided against it. If you want to know, I'll try to summarize my thoughts:
- It's hex-based, IGOUGO wargaming. Panzer General-like? Perhaps. There's lots under the hood to make it different/more than just that, though. However, the similarities cannot be overlooked, and that will probably kill it for anyone that hates PG.
- Do you like Warhammer 40K? Admittedly I have quite a bit of ignorance when it comes to this universe. It appeals to me but it's so broad, deep, and full of content from so many sources that it's almost impossible to see where one should start to absorb it all. If you like W40K, you'll probably like this. If you can take it or leave it, it won't have nearly the appeal.
- There are a LOT of units. I mean, a LOT OF UNITS. And since I'm ignorant in general of this universe, I can't tell you the difference between them. As you go further into the Campaign, you'll unlock more and more choices to build your core forces. The choices are in fact rather overwhelming. Those familiar with W40K shouldn't have a problem. People like me might have trouble wading through it all. It certainly is not lacking for content, unit-wise. The artwork on the units is very impressive, though I don't know the difference between an Autocannon and a Lascannon.
- The terrain and units look pretty good. The animations are not all that impressive, though. Units are rendered in one of six facings, owing to the hexes; they move like Tron light cycles, snapping to each direction as they move. No cool animation of grinding treads or marching soldiers - just bap-bap-bap-bap you're there. Firing animations are good, but limited - they look the same whether you're firing at an adjacent unit or one three hexes away, so there's no 'direct' fire, per se, from the firing unit directly into the target hex. You'll see firing animation based on the direction the unit is facing, and then explosions. The explosions are fairly impressive, as incoming hits the target. Destroyed targets, however, just evaporate.
- I don't know much about the universe, as I said, but I DO know that Titans are pretty massive behemoths. They're one-hex-sized units in this game. Not impressive at all. There's also some rather powerful area-effect weapons in the W40K universe, but none of these are here; everything is one-attack-per-hex and there's from what I can tell no area-effect weapons, which is disappointing.
- There is a choice between a Campaign and Scenarios. The Scenarios are basically one-shots from the Campaign. So if you've played the Campaign, you've played all the Scenarios. That kind of sucks. I had hoped to see separate stuff.
- There is a multiplayer component, but I did not try it.
I did spend two hours with it as I said...so I WAS engaged in the gameplay. It did draw me in despite my knowledge handicaps. I didn't overanalyze the units and just kind of jumped in and bought units that looked cool/had decent stats and jumped into the battles. This didn't feel like something I personally would have been comfortable with paying $40 for. Half that price would be pushing it. Like I said, it's pretty much Panzer General at heart, but with a lot of bits from the 40K universe to make it very appealing to those that are hardcore WH fans. Me, I can take it or leave it - I like the universe but it's overwhelming, as I said.
Is it worth $40? I don't think so. Not for me, anyway. If you're big time into WH40K and you enjoyed PG, you'll get a LOT of mileage out of this.
I do enjoy Panzer General and Panzer Korps, and I am a novice WH40K fan...have collections of books waiting to be read while I find the right games, like The Founding and Eisenhorn, so...I think I will enjoy this. Thanks BC!
Still just playing World Of Warships. About the only one I've done in the past week and a half. :smiley6600:
Totally addicted to World of Warships as well right now.
Also continuing PBEM Tiller Antietam with Panzerde and WITP AE Guadalcanal with SDR.
I'll be trying to get CMANO in and write up the AAR for the first half of the scenario I've played. Lots of things getting in the way, though.

I've been playing it off and on since release, and I concur with B_C's opinion on all points, pro and con. If you like Panzer General and you like WH40K, you'll like this. If you like one but can't stand the other, eh. If you hate both, or are ambivalent either way, this won't change your mind.
I'll add to the critiques that, last time I played, air unit mechanics were excessively stupid and kind of broken (in a hampering way, as in being hampered by terrain.) However, the game can be played without them, so no biggie. The devs have been pretty good about fixing bugs, and adding some design benefits (like being able to name units, which is a major feature of most PGish games but was originally left out despite the code basically being there.) They've added campaigns over time, but I'm not sure those will matter to anyone who doesn't already like not only WH40K and the Space Marines in particular (I do), but the Battle for Armageddon lore especially (for which I'm meh) -- Space Marines vs Orks are SMs vs Orks after a while.
^Yeah I think I remember JH bringing up that exact point about the air units.

Ahhh...that explains why I see Panzerde popping up every day on my Steam friends list playing Campaign Antietam. The first time I saw the pop-up I spent 10 minutes trying to find the game on Steam before I realized it was a non-Steam game. I didn't know Steam would do pop-ups for non-Steam games, but apparently it does.
Closure. I have closure. I love it when that happens.

I've set up most of my Tiller games so I can launch them from Steam, since I generally have Steam open all the time anyway. Plus, it does show that I'm playing them in the Friends list so I guess I'm advertising!
I think the first time I saw you doing another Tiller game, I thought there was a new game out and went looking as well!
Hey on the plus side it made me know you play, and that tempted me to ask you to PBEM! ;)
Ahhhh....so that's what that "add a game" does on your Steam library? Neat! I might have to do that. The thing is, my non-Steam games are so scattered that I don't even know I own them sometimes. It would be nice to have them all consolidated in my Steam library. I may try that. O0

In all seriousness, that is exactly why I do it. I forget what I own unless I have a nice clear listing like my Steam library.
It's also nice to launch what I've been playing recently by right clicking the Steam icon in the System Tray and getting a list of recent games.

very good. I'm struggling to get any time in with Worlds of Magic because I keep being drawn back into The Talos Principle. I can't really talk about it because it's one of those games where you should go in as blind as possible, but what I will say is if you like Portal, you'll like The Talos Principle. It's an exceptionally good game and my only regret is not buying it sooner.
Either I am really olde or Ryse: Son of Rome is totally frenetic and insane. Maybe both. How do people play games this fast paced? Where's my teefs?

What happened? I just played The Last Roman (Attila DLC) as the Normal Franks. The Vandals, Visigoths and Ostrogoths were about to take me apart when the Visigoths started having internal problems. I went after them with everything I had and oddly enough the VAndals and then the Ostrogoths decided to get out of the war either because their ally was falling apart or they wanted to pick up some pieces or the Romans were getting out of hand. I don't really know.

By the way there is a demo available.
I played some World of Warships Friday, rage uninstalled late that night, reinstalled before I hit the rack and then alternated between it and Command for the rest of the weekend.
had another bash at warships and decided to stop playing like a 15 year old kid and trying to get to the action first, thought about it, plotted course, paired up with another guy and shared his targets - result, survived 2 battles, sunk 4 ships - muchos research purchased
I've never heard of a rage uninstall before. That's pretty bad. :o
I've rage uninstalled Dota 2 before. Then installed it again about two days later...
