Anyone else pick this up? Its basically Men of War Assault Squad set in modern times. Its in early alpha and has two basic factions. USA and a fictitious Arabic opfor that uses a mix of insurgent and conventional forces. So far, it is more of the same awesomeness that is MoW AS. Check it out!
Here are some shots I pulled from the web. I'll take some of my own later tonight or tomorrow.

Yes. Available on early access. $19.99 for the standard edition and $29.99 for deluxe. With deluxe, you get early access to the single player campaign which is a WIP. There is also a map and mission editor and quite a fair bit of user generated content already.
I'm keeping my eye on this one.
I actually purchased the regular version but refunded it with the intention of buying the deluxe. I ended up not buying the deluxe version, but I most likely will.
Combat is much faster paced due to the modern firepower.
I think the direct-control camera is much better (now tethered to the unit you are directly controlling)
I THINK squads will automatically transfer ammo.
My biggest concern is map size and realistic weapon ranges. The MoW engine is limited in map size, and I have a feeling the weapons ranges will be scaled down dramatically.
It made me want to play Combat Mission Shock Force.
FWIW, so far I'm really enjoying it

I've been playing custom missions, but I'm not sure who made them. I'll check.
It looks very sexy. Is it a MoW AS mod like the 1914-18 FWW one on Steam?
As was previously posted earlier, I am curious about weapon ranges and effects. I never picked up Assault Squad because I couldn't stand that they nerfed ranges to fit maps. As was said, every time I thought about buying it, I went and played CM2 instead.
So are ranges nerfed and if so, are there mods that reset them?
I'm not sure what you mean by ranges "nerfed". Range is not really an issue on any of the maps I've played. They are mostly urban with a mix of some smaller villages and fields. But nothing feels so obviously out of whack that it breaks immersion. It is an RTS after all, so I don't go into it expecting ultra realism. For what it does, it does very well and it improves with every update. A very solid transition from WWII to modern combat.
When I looked into it before, I read that the ranges for weapons were significantly shortened from reality to make maps more interesting. That both accuracy and effects(penetration) were adjusted to make a more "frenetic" experience.
That just turned me off. Just wondering it is true. Not looking for CM-type realism, but would like to know how far it deviates.
So after poking around quite bit, I found this thread that seemed to answer my question.

Looks like balance is the name of the game, not realistic combat tactics. Sure its fun, but I already have games that do that. I'll skip it.

Yeah, if you're looking to play combat mission, you're better off playing combat mission.
Actually, I am always looking for the next combat mission.

LoL, yeah...well, Call to Arms isn't it. But really, at some point you should give it a shot. The MoW engine is still fantastic for what it is, and don't forget, it is highly moddable.
I am pretty much over RTS games that skew realism in the name of balance. I was into them for a while. I played Wargame a lot, but started realizing tactics that we, as wargamers, know are irrelevant in those games. MOW looked like it might be different. But with so many people arguing against any type of realistic ranges on the Steam forums, it was easy to make the decision.
Not saying they are bad games or no tactics are needed, its just the tactics are specific to the games and not really aligned with real life tactics. Some of the Mods might address the range issue, but in this particular game, it seems it isn't.
Ryan, not sure if this will make any difference to you, but I noticed in the changelog of the latest updates, that range limitations have been lifted on all weapons when used in 3rd person view. FWIW, it looks like they are addressing the complaint you raised in some manner.
With no agenda other than spreading the word
this is £4.74 on steam at the mo - still in beta but i love the game - men of war in a modern setting, marines, hmmvs, abrams

both - theres a single player campaign, and skirmish mode against the AI and MP
Hmmm... $7 CDN.... might get it when I get home.....
O0
At the sale price, its a no-brainer.
Alright, alright... downloading now..... :P :D
Tempting indeed.

Nice sale price, picked up the Deluxe version, supposedly that version will include a SP Campaign at some point, but they also have the normal version to Deluxe upgrade on sale too.
Yes picked it up, it has really amazing graphics and explosions, have to play it more to see if this game is better than MOW SA2.

On sale again (-80%) : 4,59 € for the next 45 hours
Definitely worth it at $5.
This is like a slightly more arcade version of Combat Mission.
You guys suck :P
Just sprung for the 'deluxe' version at $6.99. Not even sure what makes it deluxe, but for $6.99 I couldn't say no :crazy2:
I like being able to take first person control when I feel like it, kind of different from the classic rts. It's definately worth a spin for that price.
Just an update:
Latest patch added some really great things.
Direct control of infantry now has a tethered camera that allows you to go into 3rd and 1st person view.

this is a little older (I dont play it much), but vehicles have thermal sights now, in direct control. Kind of lame; they are limited to about 30 seconds then are subjected to a cool down period. Unrealistic, but better than nothing, I guess.

Also worth noting; if you take direct control of a Squad Leader, the entire AI squad will follow you. It's not awesome, but its better than ArmA, in terms of cohesion and movement as a unit.

Why is there no sky; night, day, or otherwise?
Because it's not meant to be an FPS
This is an interesting addition as Men of War has had third-person direct control of individual tanks/infantry for a while now - not to this degree though I don't think. The squad-AI stuff sounds cool. Wish MoW had it.

I'm in the Mission editor. Theres no sky in the ME.
New patch adds hardcore mode. Damage models are tweaked in 'hardcore mode' to be a little less gamey.

Still lots of potential with this one but I've noticed that the patches are much less frequent now.
