Title: It's Friday - what's on the menu?
Post by: JudgeDredd on August 28, 2015, 02:51:19 AM
I was off last week (Spain) so did not partake - so I'll open this one

Love this song from a Summer in Garelochhead - in the army driving Army Cadet Officers about on their adventure training

And to gaming

Likely F1 2015 - superb F1 racer imo. Also some Combat Mission:Shock Force continuing my Dutch campaign. I don't know what else...I'll try to get back into The Witcher III which is a great game - but like all games, when dropped for the "latest and greatest", it's hard to get back to.

And perhaps some modelling again. I've got a few nice kits to be making progress with.

Long weekend here in the UK - so enjoy wherever you are.

I love you all  :smitten:

Some Rimworld.

Some Wing Leader.

Traveling for the next ten 10 days...annual baseball pilgrimage, this time to CO, and then to Syracuse NY for work. No laptop so no gaming :(

When I return it will either be Rome 2 as Macedon and Apotheon or starting Pillars of Eternity, some Dragon Age: Descent and some Middle Earth maybe with some Age of Wonders III thrown in. Haven't decided yet.

Also patiently awaiting the arrival of Grand Ages Medieval and Oriental Empires.

I believe I'm going to continue wasting time in ARMA 3 in KotH online.  Offline I am strongly considering firing back up CK2 and starting a new game...I'm thinking either Poland or else maybe a crusader state during the Crusades...not sure yet.

I also fired up War of the Roses for the first time in months.  I couldn't find a good, populated server.  Looks like the game might be completely dead finally, but I may look around tonight for a bit and see if I can find something.  If not, maybe some Chivalry or Mount and Blade.

I've been more on a boardgame kick lately so Tiger Leader, A Touch of Evil, and finish my Race for the Galaxy game.  Then I may open up a little The Ground Gives Way and Caves of Qud... but really unsure.  I've made a super secret vow not to purchase any games until the Winter Sale..... I'm on Double Secret Probation by the wife.....

Very flight simmy lately.  I had a nice battle in (single-player-- set up in editor) CLoD.  I ended up crashlanding a Hurricane, which was kind of exciting since the windshield was getting coolant on it or something and the engine was only going to hold up just so long and I was a few miles out to sea off the Isle of Wight.

So some CLoD and some Wing Leader and maybe even Burning Blue or Fontenoy (what?) seem possible.

I've had CLOD for a while now but still haven't installed it.  However, your post reminds me that I'm hankering to re-install IL-2 and mod it the heck up...I might start working on that this weekend, too, in between ARMA 3 matches.

I did the massive modding of Il-2 about 2 years ago.  I had primitive stuff fighting over Spain and China and Wildebeastes!  In the end it was kind of like modding Strike fighters in that I pretty much just looked mods over and moved on.  CLoD with the mods that make it work properly is more my speed: extraordinary graphics!  Fantastic detail and I play in the editor.

Campaign: Waterloo (PBEM)

Commander: The Great War -- Austro-Hungarian Empire is out, but I let the bastards sue for peace too soon thus securing Doug's southern flank.  In other news, I've sent my second Portuguese Army to the Levant in the hope that it can make its way to Jerusalem.

CMAK against a long-time opponent who has left CMx2 for past glories...

SB: WWI against Boggit...scuttling like so many crabs at the moment...

Napoleon at Leipzig (OSG)...maybe solo, maybe get lucky and a buddy comes over and plays...

And, if we can manage it, co-op SoW:W with Doug which, given the whipping we took the last time, shouldn't have been half as fun as it proved to be.  It was a rare experience watching the men of the 4th Division plodding into place and wanting to reach through the screen, grab its commander by the neck, and insist on greater exertions...

Oh, that and playing "Ace of Aces" out in the yard with my son.  Gratitude to Vance on that one!

Best,

Jim

Happy B-Day, Tuna!

Witp: AE is still commanding my attention. I am 3 1/2 months into the 1942 campaign as the Japanese. It took awhile to get over the hump, but I got there. This is easily the most complex computer game I have played and ranks right up there with Eurofront on the board game side. Now each turn requires not much input from me, so the days can fly by.

I also played some Ark Survival this week, a gift from a relative. Its a good game, they are truly doing a good job. Yet, the game hasn't captured my heart. I wanted a survival game, but you are only really at the "survival" stage for a six or so hours. After that, thriving becomes pretty easy. After you are thriving, the only thing to do is tame more dinos and build bigger houses. Despite living in a land of dinos, you really aren't in too much danger. That is really my biggest gripe, I want to run for my life when I see a T-Rex! All you need to do is tame a fast dino and your safe from just about anything.

...which is why I bought 7 Days to Die! I am hoping it will scratch my survival/building itch.

Yeah, after the recent talk on 7 Days here I went back in. A lot's changed since I last played. It seems a bit easier now (which might be good). I'm currently in a huge apartment building on the edge of city. In the earlier versions I couldn't even enter a city without dying!

I was all in on ARMA 3 last night.

I gave up about 20k in helo's last night.  Apparently, not only can I not drive drunk, but I also can't fly drunk.  As my scotch intake increased so did my debt as I rolled Pawnees into trees, telephone wires, etc.

I made the cash up by sitting in the target zone while watching YouTube for a few hours, but still, man did I crash the crap out of some stuff last night!

I only got a few matches of World of Warships in yesterday. Been a long week at work so I passed out on the couch as soon as I walked in the door from work around noon.

Will be doing my weekly CMANO stream today, although sleeping all day yesterday threw my original scenario design plans out the window. After the stream, its going to be the same mix of CMANO, CK2, and World of Warships that I've had over the last few weeks.

The Ken Burns Civil War series in on Netflix, in the event you already have that.

Regarding gaming, pretty pathetic here.  I played ARMA 3 as previously reported, and a little bit of War of the Roses.  WotR is such a sad game.  It has/had so much potential.  It looks fantastic and there are just oodles and oodles of weapons and armor to choose from with which to customize your character.  But the developers came up with a horrible pricing scheme, apparently the place is a hacker heaven, and with Vikings game, the community has simply abandoned the WotR game.  I got on the most populated non-dueling server I could find and it was 9 vs. 9, no cavalry, which is just not any fun.

What a bummer.

Anyway, I spent all of today (Sunday) doing chores that were long overdue to be done; basically built some racks for my surfboards in my garage and other garage maintenance to finally get moved into this house like we live here.  It took all day, but now I can rest knowing I'm mostly done.  One of the racks didn't come out too good, so I might have to revisit that, but the important one for my standup paddleboards came out very nicely.

Mostly played WoWS all day yesterday after my power came back on. Played a little this morning but got annoyed with being taken out by Japanese destroyer torpedo spam 4 games in a row.

Spent the rest of today working in weather scripts for CMANO and playing some Crusader Kings 2. Was finally able to form the Kingdom of Burgundy. Crown laws in CK2 can be really weird sometimes. I had some de jure claims that I've been unable to press because crown laws in the HRE forbid wars between vassals. Now that I'm a king I can now press those claims and I even got de jure claims on Savoy I never had before. I also noticed my cousin was the Duke of Dauphine, right next to my territory, and that I was his heir because he didn't have any kids. So I plotted his murder. The plot succeeded but not before he had a daughter. I didn't get direct control of the county, but the new countess did become my vassal. Damn I forgot just how much fun CK2 can be.

Crazy windstorms knocked down trees all over the city and cut power to much of it.  I tried getting down to the FLGS yesterday to meet up with some guys to play Wilderness War but all three main traffic arteries were closed down due to downed trees.  I tried taking some side-streets but it took me over an hour to go 10 blocks.

I came home and went for a walk to check the damage.  I couldn't get through to the trails on either of my usual walking paths due to downed trees but the worst of it all?  The power's been out at my local liquor store for 3 days now and they've closed up shop.

At least the power is on at my place.  I've been spending far too much time playing a stupidly addicting, free-to-play  tactical combat/RPG called Card Hunter.

Aside from oodles of Shandalar (for which I have a new DAR entry on the way, probably tonight), I got through the first campaign prequel battles of Card Hunter (having seen someone else playing it rather often, which reminded me of its existence -- I think that was you, SDR!) And, oddly, with Grand Ages Medieval on the way very soon (though I'm sure I'll hold off for bug stomping and perhaps a Thanksgiving or Christmas sale), I've gone back to play through some of its predecessors starting with Pharaoh / Cleopatra (since Caesar 3 still has some GoG induced bugs, and really there are better Romeish sequels to that including Grand Ages: Rome itself.) So I finished the first campaign mission there.

Squeezed in some Arma 3 KOTH

getting the hang of it - beginning to recognise a good pilot and a bad, like the hummingbird pilot who flies into conflict over and over and over and over, and theres me stupid enough to get on everytime

loving the personal battles that crop up as you return to 'your area' to kill your nemesis, i had a small church yard as mine where the red team would gather to shoot the blue force as they came in by chopper, mowed a few down before they shot our guys, revived a few and then got blown up - really brutal how everyone comes to pick over your kit whilse your still watching

for me its CoD for grown ups - which is something ive wanted for a long time

The final one is Empire of the Middle Kingdom.

I played some Hegemony Rome, Horizon and continued my old Romulan campaign of Birth of the Federation. Took the last planet with dilithium from the Cardassians. They still have a lot of ships but can't build new ones. 😁

Sadly indeed...it was done by Breakaway games so not sure who has the rights to that game. It's the prettiest one and the one with the best music score.
