Well, I saw this flash up in Steam (in one of the moments I was kicked out of F1 2015!) and thought I'd give it a look.
For £45, I was wondering what someone would get for their money...well, Angry Joe told me (it's Angry Joe - so there's some naughty language)
I'm kind of glad I watched that. I know nothing about the Metal Gear Solid world and whilst I don't normally put a lot of weight behind a single review, getting 2-4 hours out of a £45 game is not a route I want to travel and was enough to make my mind up on this one. I've got 43 hours in The Witcher III and I don't reckon I'm even a quarter of the way through!
That version of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes was more of a introduction demo and I believe it only cost $10-$15 (now is like $19.99) when I purchased it. The full version of the game that is coming out this week is called Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and is getting very positive reviews already.
Link to some reviews, although for the PS4, hoping represents generally what the PC version turns out to be....

Ooops. My bad. Sorry.
Nothing to see here...move along
Seriously. Phantom Pain is supposedly the ultimate sandbox game where your options are literally limited only by your imagination. It's supposed to be the greatest game ever invented and is going to be responsible for curing cancer and bringing peace to the world. It's THAT good. I pre ordered and will be happy to post feedback when it provides me with the secret to eternal youth.
That being said, Ground Zeroes is also an exceptional game and I am hard pressed to imagine a world In which someone could play it for only 4 hours and experience everything it has to offer. Even though it's a prequel and aomewhat of a demo for phantom pain, it's still got a fully functional U.S. military base on Cuba with lots of things to explore. It might take 4 hours to finish the story, but there is so much else to do and find.
Yeah - sorry JH. I jumped the gun thinking that Ground Zeroes was just the "console" name for Phantom Pain (they do that sometimes).
Apologies to everyone. I'm an :uglystupid2:
As punishment for my idiocy, I've purchased it :-\

Agreed...I also pre ordered and can't wait to play this week....I also got Ground Zeroes and absolutely got my money's worth....liked how you could have multiple approaches to the game. Its going to be a busy week since I also pre ordered Mad Max:)

LoL. Let us know what you think of the PC version. Although I agonized over the decision,I ended up going with the ps4 edition. I figured I could save the hard drive space for now and then pick up the PC version when it's on sale.
Just went to run Ground Zeroes for an intro to the MGS world and I got this...
(https://www.grogheads.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1160.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fq499%2Fwmar1967%2FSnap1_zps5m7paoku.jpg&hash=7b3aa596137849d9207f761da2d0e44ba5f2e0af)
...lets hope this isn't a bad omen and I haven't wasted £45 :'(
Are you on windows 10? What graphics card? If you are and use ati then you have to couple a couple of files to get it to work. Hopefully in the full version not an issue.
Windows 7 64 bit and ATI graphics card...I'm looking around just now.
Damn. It used to be when a game had been out for a while, the patching process was pretty painless and comprehensive :-\
I think it was the latest ati drivers that caused the issue. If you look on steam forum it will show you the files you need to copy and will work after that.

Yeah that fixed it thanks. I was reading through a 50 page "failed to start" thread when you posted the above - so I had a look and found the ATI files I needed.
Thanks.
Glad it worked

Oh I didn't notice the 28GB space requirement. Good point.
Played around with Ground Zero again, good times...however, one thing that did annoy me about that game was the opening movie/cut scene always seem to take forever without the ability to skip, even if you restarted the mission (unless there is a trick I don't know about). Hopefully in the full game there is a way to skip long cut scenes.

Found the trick...no idea why I never searched before:) At least on the xbox controller you can hit the back arrow button and then your presented with the option to skip....whew, glad it is there.
Heh, welcome to Metal Gear there, GR. >:D (The plotty cutscenes are kind of notorious.)
