Title: Berg vs Heritage

Splitting off to it's own thread to avoid overly-hijacking the 'news' thread

New out of Heritage Games, after a public FB meltdown from the original designer

QuoteOFFICIAL COMPANY ANNOUNCEMENT:
Mr. Berg unfortunately did not complete Conquistador or do any work after his initial rules submission. Even after he was advanced money. We made repeated attempts for almost 2 years to work with him creatively. I doubt that any game company would have had the patience or understanding that my staff has went through in all of this. It almost destroyed our fledgling company.
I have continued to work on the game (while this was going on) to being about 98% complete. And, still intend on releasing it at some point. Since, playtesting is giving me very favorable results. And, that was the only way it was going to get done. I believe we have a good game reminiscent of the old game. But, none of it is Mr. Berg's anymore. Not a single sentence, card, bibliography, designer notes or map are his.
Also, due to this we are cancelling all of Mr. Berg's titles under contract. And, they will be removed from our sites ASAP. We wish him the best of luck and really did wish that it could have worked out.
Sincerely, Greg Allen

The best quote I've seen on it is from CSW:
QuoteDon't know Greg Allen, never met Greg Allen, never heard of Greg Allen before.

I believe Greg Allen.

here's Berg's comment on Heritage's page on CSW

QuoteMost of the above is fallacious and sophomoric . . .Allen has mighty hopes for himself, all based on little evidence of creativity, insight or background. He is solely interested in money and fame . . .and he has not lived up to many of the specific provisions of our contract. Something he conveniently ignores . . . but I do not.

Given his track record - which is zero - I am happy he is returning the contracts for the other games . . .but do hope he eventually publishes CONQUISTADOR, AS HE HAS, APPARENTLY - I SAY APPARENTLY, FOR HE HAS NEVER SHOWN ME anything (oops, hit the cap key . . .) he has done to change, improve or whatever . . . Nothing. (Despite the contractual obligation he has to do so . . .he has never shown my ANYTHING he has done.) . . .apparently done a lot of developmental work thereupon.

But it's his money . . .I already did my part . . .and I rest on MY record in the hobby. And the contract for the game.

The Latin word applicable here is 'subolesco'. (Think I spelled that right.)

More bull from The Pope . . . RHB

The FaceBook post from Berg that precipitated all of this

I think RHB is ready for the nut-house.  He's been trolling facebook a *lot* lately; calling everybody and anybody a "racist bigot full of hate" just on a whim.  Look at some of the stuff he's put on Dan Veerseen's wall.   I've heard him reference "I am GOD" or "King" or something to that effect in a few places online.  I seriously think the dude has gone full-on 5150 myself.

Wow. What soap opera.

I missed the original FB thread, which was deleted. The current one is the biggest discussion I have come across.

As I linked to earlier, RHB has a history of taking retainers/fronted monies from clients with no yield or output in return so I have to side with Heritage on this one.  You can almost read his sense of entitlement in his reply on the CSW page "MY record".  And bringing this all up on facebook (where he seems to live these days) is just very sophomoric and downright unprofessional.  A publisher would have to be crazy to touch any of his "new" designs with a 10ft pole.

Someone has apparently hit the dementia threshhold, and it isn't anyone at Heritage.

It's too bad; I like and play many games Berg has had a hand in. My experience tells me though that anyone that engages in drama like that is doing it to mask deeper problems.

That FB post of his is still intact. Nothing was added to it beyond what the screenie above shows.

I guess humility went out the window for this guy many years ago.

I was under the impression that it was this discussion, which was deleted and consequently got him banned from the wargaming group?

That was the post that got RHB banned from the group. The monster thread discussing it is still there.

OK - some days there's so much traffic there it's hard to keep up with :)
