Title: Supermoon Total Eclipse this Sunday
Post by: steve58 on September 22, 2015, 12:58:55 PM
Looks like most of us will be able to see it, weather permitting of course...

Cool.  I hope it's not cloudy here.  Often is when the good stuff is in the viewable sky.

May be a good reason to start a fire & have a few beers.

yeah, Bayonet Jr has an awesome telescope that was a gift a few years ago, and now we're going to have 100% cloud cover for the next 3 days.

This could be just the thing to recharge my mental heathen batteries.

Hail the Aesir! Hail the Vanir! May they on that night grant a troposphere free of occlusive atmospheric vapors and crystals!

Your prayer worked here. Clouds parted and we're having a beautiful view of the eclipse. Invited the neighbors and their kids over to watch through our telescope.

Clouds opened briefly here and Bayonet Jr and Mrs B were able to see for a few while I was recording the GrogCast.

The telescope we have was able to magnify the tiny bits we had through the clouds, so that was cool

Glad to be of assistance  :coolsmiley:

I was lucky and caught the eclipse as well. I don't know if this depended on where one is geographically, but The moon was never completely eclipsed. There was a tiny sliver of light that crept from the 5 o clock position through 6 and then 7 o clock. Using some binos I did see a few faint stars very close to the upper part of the moon which was cool and strange.

Stayed mostly cloudy for us, but we were able to catch a few brief glimpses through the clouds.

Clouds parted and the dog and I stared at it from the treeline for a few minutes. Creepy.

The sky and weather were perfect here and we just needed to deal with the trees. By walking around near the house we had good views of the moon all evening.

It's the end of the tetrad.

Was she dancing provocatively while pretending not to notice you in true Film Noire style?

Pretty sure this dog is whole.

I thought she was Stagger but it turned out she was just trying to stomp on a cockroach wearing high heels.

I noticed that there seemed to be a sliver that never quite occluded. Didn't realize it was anything more than my impatience, though.

of course i have set the alarm clock  to 4:35am to see the eclipse (its maximum)

but was to tired to set up any 'appropriate' cam (i don't have a good digital modern SLR with a telelense atm anyway and GoPro is really not up for that task)  so see what i still got with the pinhole cam of the cellular Galaxy S2 stretching paramters to its limits
