Happy Friday, my groggy Grogs! I have busted butt to get here and there's only today to go until the weekend starts. WOOHOO! Looks like there will be lots of football to go along with the usual gaming festivities. Civ IV BtS mp. And attempts at CK 2 and possibly a re-visit of Sovereignty: Crown of Kings. Check in and see where they are.
Should be a good weekend of gaming.
Football season has me deeply involved in playing Blood Bowl via VASSAL with my brother. Kind of bummed that others don't seem to interested in it as I'd really love to get a bunch of games going with people. Ah well. If you're reading and are interested; let me know! (If you've never played BB but are thinking of getting the new PC game version but aren't sure if you'd like the game, let me know - I'll teach it to you via VASSAL ;) )
Also lots of ASL lately. I have a ftf game next weekend after playing last weekend but have a new pbem game to set up for.
For solitaire play, I stumbled across a very well made "Russian Campaign" scenario for TOAWIII (may of come with it, dunno) that is of the right unit density and scale that is manageable. Anything larger and I go crazy watching the AI shuffle crap back and forth. This one is a good one though.
Awaiting the arrival of my new gaming PC l, prepping my older machine to give to my kids, and continuing on with Dragon Age Inquisition. May start a campaign of Age of Wonders III. And just got my code in for Grand Ages: Medieval :)
Yard work... it being fall and all.
When I can I have PBEM's with Cyrano and SDR.
And some VASSAL work for 2 different games.

GJK - id sell my soul to play with you guys i just cant promise any time or commitment to it at the minute, but know that id love to
As and when this weekend ill be MGS V-ing now ive got Miller out and missions are expanding - having blown a mission last night i decided to go loud, stole the bad guys lorry, drove up to the hills and sniped the entire base from the top of the hill - hilarious but now how i want to play the game so ill restart - i just wanted to try the flip side for a laugh
Ill maybe dip into ARMA III KotH, but MGS V is filling the sneaky, shooty hole at the minute
and ill be taking one for the team and downloading Grand Ages Medieval and starting an AAR
therell be some PBEMing with KyzBP - were down to maybe 2 turns a week but after a recent PM chat weve decided thats ok and its going to be like one of those 20 year long snail mail chess games, and thats cool - ive taken a pic of me now and ill post a pic of me when were done
Im launching a gourmet burger range to go with the restaurant next week so ive been eating burgers all week - so there may be just a liquid diet this weekend, and Jamesons is liquid so im all ok with that

There's no formal league going on yet so I'm just playing pick-up games with my brother. Since BB turns process very quickly, I could easily accommodate another pbem game if/when you wanted one.

ooo ooo where from you wiley old dog?
My 16 year old is going to his first concert with friends tonight at House of Blues. Since we have taxi duty, wife and I are gonna do the Red Sox game to burn some time. My 19 Year old turns 20 tomorrow, so Bday Party in the schedule.. Whatever gaming I can 'sneak' in this weekend will probably be World of Warships :smitten:.

When I can I have PBEM's with Cyrano and SDR.
And some VASSAL work for 2 different games.
Some CS: Middle East -- probably More '48 and '56 events.
Some Wing Leader -- maybe I'll try to figure out how to try to torpedo some ships -- with aerial torpedoes!
My cousin is getting married tonight so no gaming for me. They got a ton of alcohol for the reception so I'll be consuming whiskey/scotch in copious amounts.
Tomorrow might be some mix of VASSAL (B-17 Queen of the Skies or RAF), FCRS, CMANO scenario work while I deal with the inevitable hangover. Sunday will be more of the same but adding in watching football. Really wish I could play Cities Skyline with the new DLC but I'm pretty sure my surface pro 3 wont run it.
Been doing a ton of reading this week. Started reading War that Never Was on the plane the other day but got distracted by re-reading Cauldron by Larry Bond (for CMANO scenario ideas) the last few days.
Anyone have any recommendation for VASSAL RPG modules? Looking for something I can play solo (or a co-op game I can play solo) to get my RPG fix.
^ Excellent book choices. Cauldron in particular is fantastic.
I'm still going all-in on ARMA 3 KotH. I'm having a blast with the Titan shoulder-launched missile; I love taking down Pawnees with it.
I just re-bought and installed WOFF 2 with the Expansion 2. I haven't tried the new expansion yet so I'm curious to see what it brings to the game.
I am planning on re-installing IL-2 and modding it up to the latest HSFX or Ultimate Patch or whatever the most popular version is now. Finding and downloading the mods is the most time-consuming part. Don't know if I'll get to playing that this weekend, though.
'Geek - first off we all know you have no soul.
Second - I prepurchased Grand Ages Medieval from Green Man for about 27.00 IIRC.

must take a long time to delete all that sketchy browser history and 'adult content', eh? :coolsmiley:
(sorry, couldn't resist. Congrats on the new PC! Always a big day.)
I cleanse everything. The last thing I want is for the kids to find a link to a place like this.
Going to continue down my Wargaming "World of..." rabbit hole (WoT, WoWS - never knew I had that nifty beta tester battleship until I fired it up again a few days ago and WoWP) as well as finally get started in on a PbP using the Shadows of the Demon Lord rules. Seeing as there is nothing but rain in the forecast, I see lots of inside time in my near future.
Dammit Carl that is an awesome avatar.

DammitCarl's Animal-gif avatar is cracking me up. Muppets rule. :2funny:
I want to play the following games tonight:
- Grand Ages: Medieval :)
- Horizon (on my everlasting campaign...something like 900 turns already :crazy2:).
- Imperium Romanum
Yeah.
Please...PLEASE post impressions of Grand Ages Medieval.

Gracias! In lieu of the Muppets being back on the air, I thought it appropriate to haul it out of storage.
The only thing close to gaming I will definitely get to this weekend is editing the latest GrogCast episode for deployment Tuesday. I leave Monday for the desert and am taking a few solitaire games with me - what I take I don't know for sure, it depends on how well I pack. I already know some people headed out there are gamers and are bringing Exploding Kittens, so I'm looking forward to that!
CS WWII PBEM (PanzerDe)
Campaign Waterloo PBEM (PanzerDe)
CM:AK (PBEM) -- really good inside the beach Anzio fight at the moment...although my opponent's plan to play tippy-tap with my long Shermans at close to a klick is a decision he likely rues...
Heroes of Normandie PBEM (Barth): This game is really lovely...fascinating, though, what stripping away the mechanics of f2f play does to the pacing...it is REALLY fast turns, particularly given the low counter density...
CS AI War...PanzerDe said he wanted to get salty on this and I'm ill-equipped to resist him.
BLOOD BOWL 2 --- I'm an MP guy by disposition and I've been very pleased by the sportsmanlike play...so far...unholy stompings by Black Orcs notwithstanding...two linemen killed in a single game...
Muppet? I thought that was Gus playing the drums. Damn, I gotta get these glasses adjusted. But I don't have time because I went back to ETW and started a new campaign as Britain and I've got this whole empire to straighten-out. That should take at least to Sunday afternoon nap time.
I am bummed I missed the first Muppet reboot episode.. I suppose I could find it online.
This weekend my "computer wargaming" will be working on a VASSAL module for Le Retour:

Yeah, LOL. Problem is that any of those CSA units could probably kick my ass. The confederate divisions are so much bigger than the Union ones. Plus, all the AoP arty (except for the tiny amounts attached to divisions) are lagging behind, off the south end of the map. Without the arty, it's definitely not a good idea to attack. Moving the AoP is such an exercise in frustration. One of my favorite systems, though.
Whelp, WOFF2 isn't recognizing my rudder pedals for some reason. ARMA 3 is a frickin' mess, I hate servers where the jets are in full force.
So I'm going to backtrack. I'm booting up some Scourge of War and maybe later I'll give SABOW a try since Asid's been talking about it so much lately.
I can't believe how frustrating ARMA 3 was tonight. Damn. >:(
World of Warships with Tuna & Co.
For some quiet meditative gaming, I may finish up a game of Mistfall currently on the table. Then it's either LE: Predator or Eldritch Horror with the latest expansion.

I just watched it On Demand. I have Charter Cable and there are free primetime shows. I liked the reboot. Miss Piggy is the star of "Up Late with Miss Piggy." All the usual suspects are back: Gonzo, Kermit, Fozzy, the Swedish Chef, the two old hecklers (whos name escape me at the mo), Scooter, and on and on and on. It was good. Not great. I will watch the next episode. Probably On Demand.
Waldorf and Statler
Thank you, sir. You are a gentleman and a scholar.
Mirth and Star?
I think I once dated the blond chick from the rock band. I remember those lips well.
She has a good line in the show. Watching the new Muppets brought me immediately back in mind to the original. They're trying. And if they get it right, it'll be good.
CMANO, NF5: Bardufoss Blues for me when I get a chance between taking the family to Oktoberfest and painting the master bedroom with the wife.
Any time i get will be with CSME. they did a great job on this game, the new 2D views are great.

And you've reminded me that I need to get a VASSAL game going of Stonewall Jackson's Way II.
Cyrano, I have CS AI and am ready to go...
Jammin' with some old skool Oblivion tonight!
Well I'm playing a small map Age of Wonders III campaign. It still feels like the game is about the race to tier IV units still, which is sort of a bummer because in general I really like the game.
Don't know why I let my friend talk me in to it, but, playing BtS on a Large map. Tokugawa and I (Louis XIV) are on a large continent by ourselves. My friend (playing Willem Van Oranje) is on a smaller continent with Pacal. Still a third land mass contains Mansa Musa, Brennus, Peter and Charlemagne.
Everything started off well. I knew relatively soon that it was just me and Japan on my continent. I expanded prudently and was researching at a good clip. Then, the barbarians saw the flame of civilization and drew close. I had to rapidly build defense forces, Archers first then, with the discovery of Copper, Axemen. Thankfully, none of the cretins got close to taking any of my cities, but, I expended huge amounts of time, resources and lost research into securing my borders. The result was a stable empire, but dwindling prospects.
While I was defending myself from the threat of extinction, Tokugawa exploded with cities. He refused all my offers to open trade or share research and resources. Although, things started to open up a bit when an especially adept Confucian monk slipped over the border and started spreading our religion. I had to race to build more cities I couldn't afford in order to protect coveted assets. At the end, while my opponent and I had covered the continent, we were both far behind the rest of the world in all things that mattered.
I know this because a Dutch Caravel appeared on my shores. I hadn't even gone past Triremes and here was this sleek ship sailing the ocean to discover this backward continent. Luckily for me, Willem's emissaries were willing to share all of their technology with me for the price of a map (yes it's gamey, but, you play the cards you're dealt (my friend refuses to play an adversarial game (instead, we work together to subdue the ai))). Immediately, my fortunes rose. For you see, in the knowledge I obtained, I also found the rest of the world.
It seems that Willem and Pacal decided early that their continent wasn't big enough for the two of them. Therefore, one of them had to go. After two long, brutal campaigns, Pacal was defeated. His cities taken and his population assimilated. And so it is that the Mayan civilization belongs to history.
On the third land mass, an almost equal distribution took place. Charlemagne and Peter grabbed the bulk of the land while Brennus and Mansa Musa settled for less. However, that shrewd Malian held a technology advantage on all of us, thus, ensuring the most up to date troops. Each of the four civilizations founded a great religion, Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism and Judaism. And it is with great surprise to me that the friction of so many beliefs never flared into open conflict.
History changed when Tokugawa decided he had had enough of Charlemagne and Mansa Musa's threats and declared war. Protected by the ocean (as Japan did not have Astronomy and its access to ocean going troop ships), Charles and Mansa Musa invaded Japan and took three cities. Their mistake was not counting on the vast number of troops Tokugawa had at his disposal and their gains were quickly taken back by Japan. It was then that fate intervened.
Charlemagne himself came to my court and begged my assistance in the war. By this time, I had used the tech that Willem gave me to good effect. My front line troops were state of the art, my economy was humming and my manufacturing base was almost done being built. So, it was with great pleasure I said, "Yes!"
And nearly lost Dijon. I had stationed a mixed army of Infantry and Machine Guns in the city, but, I feared they would not be enough when I saw the army Tokugawa assembled before my gates. 16 Knights. 17 Grenadiers. 12 Trebuchets. A dozen War Elephants. Musketmen aplenty. His trebuchets reduced my defenses to nil and the attack commenced. Through sheer luck and will, my forces held. He left two wounded Knights as the only sign he had been there. And then the counterattack commenced.
That was many years ago. Now, I have taken over half of his cities. My troops are numerous and experienced. It's just a matter of time before I take his last ten cities. I hope it is soon as I would like to rest from this war and build my civilization to GREATER heights! We shall see.
This Weekend I will be playing the following games PBEM:
Tiller's Minsk '44
Tiller's Budapest '45
Tiller's France '14
War Plan Orange
AGEOD's 30 Years War
AGEOD's Wars in America (BOA2)
I will continue my campaign in Baldur's Gate 2 and will be testing the new Campaign Series Middle East so I can get ready to play PBEM.
Now that I have a 40" monitor on my computer I might be able to see the units in all the Tiller games that I have- I'll have to see if I can finally play those!
I played the crap out of CK2 last night.
I picked up a saved game I had been playing. I started as the Duke of Aquitaine. I am still not entirely sure what happened. I think I created a new Duchy at some point. When I died I started playing as one of my daughters and my realm fragmented with a Duchy going to each of my daughters. As the daughter my sister rebelled and declared a war on me to take Aquitaine. In response I initiated a plot to kill her that got over 100% backing. As this is going on I get killed leading my troops in battle. This ends the war and now I'm playing as the other sister!
Unfortunately I still have that assassination plot I started, but now its against myself! WTF! Eventually it works, I die and now I'm playing as my aunt.
My aunt is married to someone from the HRE and now I have no heir to pass my dynasty on to so I'm facing endgame if I die. I divorce my husband after two tries, change the succession laws to the one where your assets get divided up equally among your children, and I marry a guy matrilineally but I don't think he has any assets. He dies leaving me nothing and now I'm so old that nobody will marry me.
I think I'm facing endgame again because my heir (half-son?) is colored red. I think I'm in my mid-60's so there won't be much more time before I find out. I don't really know what else I can do at this point.
So basically this has been a pretty short run, maybe 75 years. Pretty pathetic!
^I blame the weather.

Meh. I only had about 1 more year to play with my character in CK2. She was 67 and I just couldn't find anyone with landed titles willing to marry her matrilineally. So she died and it was game over; score was about 5800. Pretty sad showing. :-[
Agreed. Must be the Uggs.

I might do that. I'll see what I have and try to familiarize myself with them. I have 3 pbem's going at the moment for ASL, Combat Mission and Blood Bowl so let me wrap up some of those and then I'll check it out and let you know.
I finished Metal Gear 3: Indulgence early this weekend, by which I mean I finished Metal Gear Solid: Insipidence.
And by "finished" I mean, "played until I couldn't stand the unending fight against the user interface in order to play a game dedicated to spreading out its hour of gameplay by using the most gratuitous repetitive backtracking and sucker-kills and inconvenient reload areas, not counting the plotty things, and then I found a cinematic on YouTube and watched the last hour of plot which felt like I was slowly having my life drained by a succubus except not in any fun way."
And then I (re-)played the first third or so of Batman: Arkham Origins: Blackgate, and was reminded how to do story and gameplay right. :smitten:
I'm sure I'll give Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty: Infestance a shot for a while to see if the gameplay has at least improved any, after which I'll just watch a cinematic and go on to the next stage in my Arkham/MGS playthrough. ;)
Hey JP, are you up for a pbem of Blood Bowl? I could use another pbem game of it as one of my other 2 are wrapping up.
I'll be looking into it soon. 8)
