Starts on October 8th, with those who have purchased founders packs it will be available on the 1st. Anyone else jumping on this?

Not familiar with it, but Obsidian caught my eye here. But is this another WoT clone ?

Yes, with modern equipment.
I'd rather play one of these with the more modern stuff, but I've seen some videos of this one and it looks to be as Arcade-y as WoT. Possibly more so in some ways.
At least it's free-to-play, so it's easy to look into.
I'm looking forward to the OBT.
Didn't bother with the founder packs though.

Got a Founder pack and already played a bit :))
Does it have modern fire control? Lase and shoot?

Don't think so, with the main guns. Just aim through the sight and fire IIRC. Arcade style, like WoT.
However, it does have ATGMs which you must guide to the target. So there's that.
So if anyone's playing it (other than myself) my nick is Tpek
And it'd be nice to form our gown Grogheads Battalion.

So what's the point playing with modern equipment then, if they're not going to include the best part?
For those that have had enough with WWII games and want to see some more modern looking tanks.
While it doesn't offer everything a modern tank has, neither did WoT or WarThunder ever did offer a real simulation of WWII tanks.
For something a bit more realistic you could always try Arma 3 :)
Arma 3 don't have lasing to by default.
Though the game will compute and show you the range to the target, you have to manually do the elevation / ranging.

That's what's funny about vehicles in ArmA. They look high-tech but lack the real hardware that MAKES them high-tech. Modern MBTs and aircraft with primitive fire control and targeting systems.
I decided to give Armored Warfare a try this weekend.
After a couple matches, it doesn't look too bad for a casual multi-player FreeToP. I was needing a change after playing a lot of World Of Warships the past few months, and War Thunder for quite awhile before that, so hopefully this fits the bill.
I wouldn't bother, if it weren't for having more modern Cold War era equipment. Wayyyy more interesting than the heaps of WW2 stuff out there.
I think the module grinding in Armored Warfare is far less annoying than WoT & WT. Likewise with the gold ammo & other such pay-to-win nonsense. For a free-to-play game, the setup is quite reasonable. I'm not even sure there's anything to spend money on other than the Subscription and Premium vehicles (both of which give reward bonuses).
As for the gameplay, it's rather Arcade like WoT. But better in some ways. Non-penetrating HE rounds don't do much damage against MBTs, for example. There are ATGMs (and counters like reactive armor & active defense systems).
There is also more variety regarding Roles, and they are rewarded appropriately for doing them. I've been having more fun driving an AFV, and scouting for the heavies, than using a beefcake MBT. The TDs and Light Tanks also look like fun. I won't mention the SPGs.. everyone should hate them.. but I've not encountered them enough to get an impression about whether that situation is better than WoT. I imagine it is, if only in small ways. They do get automatically detected by enemy SPGs when they fire, and there is a brief warning when you have an artillery round incoming, so that's good.
This will probably be a nice casual multi-player escape when in between others of this type. I'm very thankful it's post-WW2 stuff. The gfx effects look great too.
TL;DR:
It kinda reminds me of playing Wargame: AirLand Battle, but as a single vehicle.
That was probably deliberate on the devs part, judging by the UI, period, and general look of it.
^ That convinced me...downloading!
I've got the gfx set to Very High and added 1x AA (hate those jaggies!). This thing looks pretty damn good. The dust & smoke effects are especially awesome. Also the gunfire sounds. Watching someone fire a large caliber gun, and seeing the dust kicked up around it, along with the realistic-sounding report, is moistening.
Screenshots don't do the windblown dust & smoke any justice but here's one anyway...

The first two tiers aren't heavily populated, since you can get through them so quickly. Tiers 3 & 4 is where most people are right now, so the match waiting is practically nil in that sweet spot.
The default FOV was messing with me a bit yesterday, fortunately it has a slider in the graphics settings. Unfortunately, I get an occasional crash when loading back into my garage after a match but it's not been regular.
I'd be interested to play some games teaming-up with you folks.
One of the things I hate the most about the game is getting stuck with random stupid kids on my team.
This could really solve that problem.

My handle is NefariousKoel iirc.
Been having an absolute blast in my new Tier 4 BMD-1.
Firing the Sagger ATGMs is as fun as imagined. It operates the same as in SB Pro, other than needing to check the level bubble in the Bradley (and a much lower min range).
Same as World Of Warships, the fun opens up once you get to Tier 3 or 4.
I'm grinding the M60A2 Starship right now, what a piece of junk. It armor is ....non existent, is big as a school bus, slow, has a long reload, and they can see you way before you see them. Just a frickin nightmare to play.
My BMP-1P on the other hand is great. It is super fast, can hide, 73mm gun does way more damage than it should, has the AT missle for long range sniping. Only downsides are the lack of armor (which I find no different from the Starship), and gun depression.

Wait until you get the BMP-2.
I just got the BMD-2 and that 30mm AC melts everything but MBTs. Has the exact same armament as the BMP.
I also recently picked up the Starship's smaller brother, the M551 Sheridan. It can put out some big Alpha damage but that damn 152mm reloads as fast as rock moves. At least it's fairly fast and has 3 Smoke Launcher loads. Those have saved my biscuit many times.
I often tend to load an ATGM at the start of the match with those and try to get a long shot or two, without being spotted, at the beginning of the match. Then switch to the guns.
The Starship is like the Sheridan without any of the benefits LOL

Certainly. Although it has more frontal turret armor, but it's benefit is very situational.
The 'Light Tank' class retention of accuracy, when moving fwd/back slowly, is a huge benefit in the Sheridan. The accuracy on the 152 is crap, as you know. So that's massive. Plus the smoke, which you will need often. Even most APCs can penetrate your frontal armor in the Sheri, so once you're spotted running & hiding is your only option.
At the start of a match, I tend to load a Shillelagh ATGM and follow a group of light vehicles out into a more open area of the map. Where I take up a long-range ambush spot on a ridge behind some shrubbery & hope for the scouts to get a steady detection of some heavies far out. Pop off a missile or two before figuring out where I need to go, switch to HEAT rounds and move in.
Rushing in on the front line, with a Light Tank or AFV, is a good way to get smashed so I snipe with ATGMs until the MBTs get up into the fight. Maybe that's an ideal way of playing the Starship too, since it has the same armament? I don't think it's speed is quite as good, however, so relocating isn't gonna be as optimal.
The commanders hatch on the Starship is huge and provides a full damage target. So even in a hull down position almost anything that hits you does 400-600 damage.
I usually start off with a missile as well. My latest strategy is to get in the building/railway/cluttered areas where there is not as much visibility. There I can maybe just brawl with the enemy, because this thing is too much of a target at longer ranges.

That's probably the most ideal way to go, although that terrible reload speed is a mark against it in such close quarters. At least you can get yours down to almost 10 seconds with modules and skills. The 152mm reload speed on the Sheridan is even worse.. by ~2 more seconds IIRC. Between that and my lower HP & armor, it'd be quick death for me.
Think the latest patch yesterday did something to the Starships armor. Actually was bouncing some shells even from the giant commanders cupola. Or maybe its just me LOL.
Those people in their crazy Fox scouts.. makes me wanna get one. 8)
Hard as hell to hit those quick little bastids when they're rolling.
Another thing I'm grateful for; they reportedly don't allow UI mods.
While I think one or two indicators could use a more obvious color change, and maybe a more notable sound effect, it works just fine. Further, there isn't an ongoing UI Arms Race for who can get the most exploitative advantage from them. Not something I appreciate in these competitive multi-player match based games that strive for some semblance of balance.

Fun game. Once things got going had a blast with the tier 1 M-113 and the PT-76.
Did have to change several the default install settings (install location, disabled the browser Activex control it installs by default, do NOT allow the my.com client software to run when Windows starts, and to disable forever auto seeding the install files).
That Fox was fun to watch. O0
I picked up a starter pack and have been playing like mad over the past week and a half. Between the premium time and the extra bonus from the package, I already unlocked the M2 Bradley and Leopard 2AV.
Took a little bit to get into my groove but now that I've improved on getting hull down, and got a feel for the detection ranges, my ability has shot up.
Loving the Bradley thus far, despite being a bit more visible than the BMD-2 was. Gotta choose my TOW ambush spots well. :)
Started playing, liking it so far. Like the more detailed terrain, slower more methodical nature of battles.
The name is Windego online.
Is it possible to be completely behind a hill, fire an ATM, and guide it to your target based on another units spotting?

Not really. But from what I've seen, you aren't restricted by barrel depression limits on many vehicles with ATGM optics mounted higher on the turret.
On many, the POV changes when you switch to ATGM. I especially noticed that on the BMDs/BMPs/Fox/Etc which have their launchers mounted higher on their turret. The ones with barrel-launched missile capability such as the Sheridan, Starship, and some Russian MBTs, can also fire with their barrel pointing upward and then guide them back downward to some extent, limited by your optic POV.
So you can be mostly turret-down behind a ridge and guide a missile if your point-of-view is still above it.
I think there may be a little leeway though. I guided a missile in for a hit against one I could barely see in first-person gunsight view, using the external 3rd person to lase. It wasn't easy but may have been easier that way than using the sight to target a moving vehicles viewports on top of it's turret.
Thanks. I may experiment a bit in some blowout matches to determine exactly what the (and my) limits are.
Biggest part of it is learning how far away you need to be in the specific vehicle (re: it's Camo Factor) in order to fire and stay hidden. In many of the light vehicles (AFVs, TDs, etc), it's best to stay at longest range possible, bar spotting needs, to remain undetected. But enemy scouts have such long spotting ranges, they're often your worst enemy in this case.
There's an interesting little sub-contest involving spotting from the Scout vehicles. If the enemy team doesn't have a scout on a good perch, within it's view range of your position, then you can blast away and remain unseen. But if one of their scouts is anywhere near and within LOS when one of you fires, then it's time to boogie outta there and relocate before getting dead. Because they'll likely see you after firing.
I've enjoyed running AFVs/Scouts for this "spotting war" side show quite a bit. If the MBTs don't have a scout watching for enemy light vehicles, then they can take some serious hits without being able to respond very effectively.
You can still hit invisi-firing enemies by watching where the fire comes from, of course. But that's generally only feasible if they're not firing at you, but someone else. Firing ATGMs at unseen enemies isn't as effective as a gun, though, since your lase point will likely be targeting the terrain far behind whatever ridge the sneaky bastard is hiding on.
You can get an extra (free) tank for logging in right now..

It's not a bad little tank for a freebie. Needs the upgraded shells and engines though before it gets to be what I call a fun tank.
One aspect I like about AW over the other tank game is that limited gun depression in some vehicles is a real thing. It hasn't been arcaded away
I gotta try this.
I wonder if the Bradley got a nerf in recent history.
Picked it up awhile back. It's decent at many things, and the additional reactive armor can occasionally help. But it's damage output is weak compared to other IFVs near it's tier. The per-round damage is abnormally low, including with the TOW missiles. :knuppel2:
Just a heads-up. I'm guessing they'll eventually review & update it or something. You have to play the Russian BMDs to get to the Bradley and those have more punch in AW oddly enough.
Some of my favorites have been the early IFVs w/ 20mm cannon. Those things can wreck in the early tiers. Likewise, the M41 Walker Bulldog is pretty beastly at Tier 2. And despite not having armor for shit, the Leopard 1 variants all ended up being enjoyable for me since they were so quick & agile for an MBT. The Italian variant, the OF-40 seemed to be the highlight of those Leo 1s. The BMDs are great, but easily killed, so you gotta use your camo or speed to stay out of trouble as needed. BMPs almost as much fun but their gun depression is atrocious. T-64 and M60 are monsters in their tiers, if you can get hull-down and don't have to move too quickly due to the 64's almost non-existant stabilizer, and the 60's slow speed.

I did the monster hi-res download (= about 19 gig?). What a beautiful game! And perfect for my current gaming interests( Things that blow up and stuff that happens fast on neato maps without too much talking and planning). I guess it is "arcady" but so far mostly in a good way.
I've been playing in the PvE missions -- which are nice and the bots are fun to blast. I'm MengJiao in the game and you may see me blowing up bots at half the average rate and getting knocked out before anyone else.
I'll add you to my list next time I'm in, MengJiao.
It's pretty fast-paced and very deadly. Gotta use cover as much as possible. The matches take almost no time to get into and don't last terribly long.
They've managed to make the Magic Cap Circles not matter so much, and encourage killing the enemy team. They should still be there for those cases where the last person on the enemy team just keeps running, wasting everyone's time & prolonging his inevitable death. It's great for forcing a fight when there's some kind of stalemate, and that's how it should be. I rarely see matches won by people sitting in a cap zone. O0

I've only played in PvE so far, but I like the overall feel of the game and the huge number of options. It also feels like your choices have a major impact on your fate -- you'd think most tactical games would seem like that, but the last few I've been in -- it felt like there was not much I could really do (Heros and Generals and Insurgency most recently) to change what was going to happen to me. The maps in AW seem like a good size for fast battles where you find out whether you went the right way pretty fast and you can get a feel pretty quickly for what is going on.
MJ,
you will find that Medium difficulty missions require a more conservative playing style to be sucessfull at.
Admittedly, I've only played one PvE match.
This type of game, like FPSes, is all about multi-player for me.
I realize that some people spend the extra time to grind out some of their upgrades in PvE, after they unlock a new vehicle. Something I've avoided thus far, so I have little knowledge of PvE co-op.

I'm enjoying PvE. For a while I buzzed around in AFVs and TDs. Last night I just puttered around in the ("bonus") t-62 vet gathering upgrades. I have the (now somewht trained) recon commander and special sighting gear so I can see pretty far for a MBT, though I'm lucky to get even one kill when I'm in missions with higher tier and much faster vehicles -- which happens a lot. I guess I'll go try a PvP battle tonight.
They are fun. You'll love the more complex environments and the LOS rules work as advertised.
PvP battles can be brutal. You gotta be extra careful when you're spotted. Get acquainted with your vehicle's gun depression and/or missile launcher idiosyncrasies to stay as hull-down as possible when peering over terrain for the enemy.
With instant team spotting in these games, you tend to get focus fired shortly after being spotted so don't sit there for long. Play Peek-A-Boom until you sense the opportunity to push a flank that's crumbled.
EDIT: However, the rewards for PvP matches are larger and the battles are shorter so you end up playing more.
They just released a huge update, adding a bunch of stuff.

But I think except for some work occasionally on new vehicles, I'll mostly be playing in PvP -- which is great fun! I'm pretty bad at it and have only been in low tier tanks (the M-41 and the T-62 vet are the biggest things I've been in in PvP), but it is still amazingly fun. I like how the balancing works etc.

I'm also all about the PvP even though I'm not as good at it as World of Warships and Steel Ocean.
The roles start opening up more, in PvP, at Tier 3 and higher. After seeing some gameplay in Tier 6, it seems to become even more specialized in higher tiers depending on what type you're in.
The monetization is the best there is for this type of game, and the xp/credit "grind" is balanced enough that it hasn't annoyed me.
My biggest complaint, at the moment, is the need for more maps. There are a couple I don't like and there aren't many more than that. Five... maybe six PvP maps total IIRC? Hope they add some sooner rather than later.

I'm only now starting to recognized some of the maps in PvP -- but there aren't that many and more would be better.
Another free tank for Xmas the tier 3 premium Type 59

Started playing. Does Pvp really take too long to join. My experience is 3 to 4 mins

That's on the long side.
Probably just happened in the first couple tiers, though, because people level out of those extremely fast. Once you reach around Tier 3 or 4 it will normalize.

And the super high tier guys take 10 to 13 minutes :o I guess the game hasn't reached the desired mass yet.
Think I'm only up to around Tier 6.
The wait time wasn't too horrible last I played, but it was often during primetime here.

It's kind of a nice time on the North American server at least at East Coast Prime time. I have a range of vehicles from level 1 to level 5 and every day I try to get the first win bonus on whichever ones seem interesting. For example, I really didn't like the OF-40 (the tier 4 leopard line tank), but I was playing it to get in the groove for the ICEM60A3. I did okay in the OF-40 so now I want to upgrade its sights so that means I need to get the Swingfire to proven, which otherwise I'm not that interested in. The swingfire is tier 4 IIRC and tier 4 is pretty easy to get games in. So better sights on the OF-40 here I come.

My plan to make a somewhat sneaky OF-40 seems to have worked. I even helped win a close game by finishing off a level 5 vehicle of some sort. It sort of fell out of the foliagegoing backward onto a frozen river looking bewildered and I happened to hit the fire button at the right time and he blew up.
I wasn't encouraged by the look of the OF-40's and Leopard 1A5's stat blocks.
But after playing them for awhile, and some module upgrades, they ended up being quite fun. Their guns are excellent for their tier, firing fast and very accurately. The tanks themselves are pretty quick for MBTs.
Frankly, my MBTs get constantly penned and damaged from the front anyway. Due to all the weak points the developers have placed on them, the accuracy and often short engagement ranges on all the exceptionally hilly/urban maps full of junk and funnel points make it the norm to be close enough to aim for any small weak spot.
I found it a bit more effective just to have high HP and a fast-aiming, fast-firing, and accurate gun instead of trying to rely on armor bounces. Pretty sure my effectiveness dropped a bit when I moved up into the Leopard 2AV. Everything was slower & less accurate on it. The increased armor rarely helped much.

Yep. My experience is that you get blown up when you get overwhelmed from multiple angles and not by having people snipe at your armor from far away. So in this game (though not apparently in reality) a lightly armored MBT that is relatively fast with good view distance and gun system is a pretty good vehicle to play. It also curbs my tendency to get a "scout" and go roving and die fast. Better for me to be forced to move more circumspectly, though I still have the most fun taking a scout and leading the drive into the enemy -- that is always a function of a team with a good idea of what it wants to do on a map that is good for scouts and has an obvious attack route (River Point or maybe Cold Something).
I go rushing in, at the lead, far less with scouts. Pushing is for MBTs IMO.
Scouts have such amazing spotting range (best in the game), especially with the extra module slotted for it, that they shouldn't be trying to rush up into close range. Their only survivability is stealth and quickness and half of that is out the window if they're getting close enough to be spotted.
I've seen numerous matches where some dead teammate is complaining about people in scout vehicles not suicide rushing straight through the enemy lines. That's just a good way to die quickly without doing much for the team, but I still see impatient people doing it and complaining about others not doing same.
I try to keep my IFV either close to a group of pushing MBTs, to lend them the longer ranged spotting or, if nobody's pushing nearby, finding a high spot with a bush & a good field of view until they do. You can't survive long when spotted in a scout and the enemy will deliberately target you over most others due to that fact. Gotta be sneaky and play to your strength as support.

I agree that ideally a scout does scouting better by staying near the push, but if there's no push (which seems to happen fairly often), things get more complicated fast. Lately, I've been using missiles to try to unstick the enemy. Sometimes that sort of works. Other times I've found myself with the push pulling back from around me and no obvious enemies in sight. Often I just drive too fast and that's the end of me.
Anyway, the OF-40 has the advantage of restraining me -- plus it does okay in the scout zone around the main push. Maybe I can learn to scout better by playing scouts more like i play the OF-40.
My play style is generally sitting back and sniping. I really find the swingfire fun but missiles are weak. I just bought a Chieftain. Solw bugger.
But when I play scout or AFV, I like to go flank and sneak from behind. But if everyone does not go to the right place and sit back. I will die soon.
I do literally run in circles around big tanks, then switch on autoaim. :)

Scouts are such fun! But in my experience, generally if the push is good the scout survives and if not -- the scout is dead. With an OF-40 I can survive and even tip the game when things are down to only a few players left.
I just got the Fox and have not done very well in it yet.

I'm doing better, but not in the Fox. I'm being more cautious with most items, but (of course), my best battle was on Lost Island. I had a Leopard 1 with all the fixin's and threw caution to the winds and got 3 kills (two Pattons and an object 59 -- most ever for me) and took the enemy base.
How come I suddenly have an M41, Patton, M60 in my garage?

Gifts?
Meanwhile -- camo is going to be coming up so you can sort of customize vehicles (and get a 0.03 addition to your camo factor).
More Chinese tanks coming our way.

Big rewards event this week, for a few hours around primetime.
+400%/+100% plus extras..?
Plus something about the Chinese tanks being added.
I am interested in modern armored warfare, but I really burn out on WoT type games quickly. If there was some sort of context to the grinding, some sort of campaign, it might make it more worth it to me. Is there anything like that in AW?

There's PVE co-op, does WOT have that now? But otherwise it's all a grind. No context or campaign.
Thanks. I do hope that changes at some point.
