Title: Do "it" for Mom!
Post by: LongBlade on October 01, 2015, 01:17:33 PM
The Danish people are facing declining birth rates, and this is a problem for several reasons.

However, a solution has been proposed and a new had has been released (English Subtitles)!

At last a form of Foreign Aide I can support. I volunteer to help Danish Grandmothers.

"Hey, Mom's sending us on a romantic ocean cruise around Italy!"

"Great! I'll pack the pills!"

...note to Danish. Babies (usually) don't don't happen by accident. Want more babies, stop preventing more babies.

(Well, strictly speaking babies usually do don't happen by accident, too, but sending the kids on a romantic holiday won't help that either.)

You are onto something here JP.  Danish sex isn't lacking, it is the desire to raise kids in this environment that is lacking, IMHO. That coupled with effective & available birth control options, well it is the perfect storm for a childless society.

Personally speaking, my quality of life was far better before my wife and I adopted an 8 year-old boy (now 11).  My personal stress levels were less because I didn't have to deal with an antagonistic, disrespectful and obstinate little bastard; a kid who argues about brushing his teeth, taking a bath, going to bed, being decent to other people, doing his homework, getting up to go to school, eating his food, etc., etc.  When I was raised, I ultimately feared my father and (mostly) did what I was told because I knew that the ultimate weapon (a spanking) could be used if I did not tow the line.  My dad didn't have to figure-out a complex rewards system, he didn't have to try to figure out how to reason with me (when I was too young to understand reasoning); he could just get mad, say "because I said so" and if that didn't work then he'd swat my behind.  I got the message.  Respect and obey.  But these days that sort of parenting is no longer in fashion; and I believe that we are the worse because of it.  That being said, I in no way endorse or advocate physical abuse.

When we adopted the boy, I literally had to sign a pledge promising that I would never spank, swat, or otherwise physically discipline him.  I have to tell you, it is damned frustrating and tiring having to keep up with rewards charts, time-outs, and heart-to-hearts with a kid who is only concerned with pursuing his own immediate interests and gratifications.  Occasionally friends and other people ask me if I would recommend adoption, and if I would do it again.  My answer?  F%^& NO!!! NEVER!!

The Danish government is bringing attention to a very real problem.  Hopefully it get people thinking and their birthrate will start to go up. IMHO, there has to be some incentive for people to have children, and having little bastards ruin your cushy life isn't a good incentive.

That reminds me that the famous "can't live with them, can't live without them" line was first coined at the time of Augustus Caesar by someone in the Senate (I don't recall who), during debates about what to do to encourage men to spend time with wives instead of prostitutes or, ahem, certain Greek habits.  :buck2: The Empire was entering into a protracted period of birth decline, partly due to primitive contraceptive practices (including exposure of unwanted baby girls), and partly due to the aforementioned. The ever-ongoing civil and border wars didn't help either, naturally.

Caesar's eventual solution was to promote tax breaks for families with children. Sociologist Rodney Stark thinks the situation didn't turn around until Christianity became increasingly popular (despite the occasional persecution), although conversions to Judaism helped somewhat at a smaller scale, for somewhat similar reasons (minus the problem of circumcision for adult male converts!)

Those studies have looped back around into relevancy today, because there is a culture coming to inhabit Europe, who whatever their faults may be do aggressively promote multi-generational continuation. If I recall correctly, the proportionate growth of that culture (in a few variations of course) has been a chief concern of Danish authorities in the past couple decades...

(Hint: that culture isn't the return of Roman Catholicism.  ::) )

Later 20th century Quebec saw La revanche des berceaux, or the revenge of the cradle, where there was a deliberate campaign amongst Franco Québécois to have more children than Anglo Quebecers and thereby displace them as the majority in society and politics. It worked.

If it happens, it will be the neo-fascist and racist poor, seeking to re-populate Denmark with racially Danish children; along with their hands out for a government hand-out.
