Flying cars: available since the 1950s, still somewhat expensive, also noisy and inefficient for casual purposes, and dangerous as all hell.

Are they hover cars?  No? Then GTFO.

Go easy on the guy, he's Canadian. We all know it'll be an American who invents the hover car.

Forget the hovercar. I want someone to open an Einstein-Rosen-Podolsky Bridge so I can get the hell out of here!

I think that was the "dwarf" planet that had started the debate about Pluto's status, after it was discovered further out.   IIRC.  Or both that and Eris..?

Eris is more massive than Pluto and may even turn out to be larger as well once both have been fully measured.

They'll eventually run out of netherworld deity names.  So "Doug" and "Flying Spaghetti Monster" will happen at some point.   O0

Yes, they hover very effectively. That's their primary job in a way, and a big reason why they have a hard speed limit beyond which they can't fly.

The hovering also for several reasons makes them more dangerous than airplanes. If power fails, they have almost no aerodynamics and will probably drop like a rock (or a thrown rock). Unless the operator tries one trick to catch the fall at the last moment, which still requires enough height to try the trick.

They're a damned nuisance, though also super-useful. Dad was a chief mechanic of these flying hovering cars back during the Vietnam War on a light support cruiser for a carrier group. He says pilots and mechanics like to joke about the things being tricked into flying by engineers. ;)

It would of course be nice to have better flying cars, but they still won't be much safer. Even if they come with a Mr. Fusion nuclear home generator on the back!  ^-^
