Title: LnL Heroes of the Pacific
Post by: GJK on October 06, 2015, 03:06:59 PM
I just got a notice that my copy of HotP has been shipped (thank you David!!) and I'm excited to give this one a go.  As many of you know, ASL is my tactical WWII game but I've always been intrigued by the LnL system.  You may recall as well that I so desperately wanted to learn how to play Day of Heroes but it just would not register with me; perhaps from being too grounded in ASL or the RAW for DoH was full of ambiguities, or likely a bit of both maybe.  However, after taking to David Heath, I'm really impressed with the direction that he is taking LnL; higher quality and getting long OOP stuff back in circulation and if I'm not mistaken, cleaning up the old rules.  So yes, I'm excited to get this one on the table.  Anybody have their copy (yet)?  What's your thoughts?

The rules have been cleaned up a bunch. You can download them from their web site if you want to get a head start.

I don't have the game but I just completed making the official VASSAL module for it.
Have fun. I really like the system. I can answer just about any question you have.

Thanks. David Heath gave me the same art files used to print the game to make the module.

I think it's great that companies like LnLP have free VASSAL modules for people to look at the components from the game.
People can also have a friend, who owns and knows the game, teach it to them in an easy format.

I tell ya, I'm really impressed with what David is doing with LnL.  I never heard anything negative about M. Walker (except that maybe writing rules wasn't his forte) but things really seem to be kicking now with the new ownership at the helm.

I'll certainly check out your vassal module.  My brother is a HUGE PTO fan so if I can learn the system and have a couple of games with him I'm sure he'll pick up a copy of the game as well.

I have all the old LnL WW2 stuff other than HotBlitzkrieg. Gary, do you know off the top of your head if the new rules are fully compatible with the older games?

They're supposed to be, "generally" - but not guaranteed to be, as I understand it.

Yes if you download the new rules you can play the old games just fine.

I've downloaded the modern rules to use with my 1st Edition Forgotten Heroes Vietnam and they work fine.

CRAP! I left in a bug in the VASSAL module... :-[  Hopefully the last one...

It's now fixed and you can get it the same places I mentioned up thread.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Le sigh.... you'd think this was the first time I'd ever built a module.... just too many things going on at the same time..... programming faster than I can see.....  :-[
Another fix posted for USMC leaders. v1.3 is the latest.

Kinda wish I ordered this instead of Conflict of Heroes: Guadalcanal.  Doesn't look like that one is going to be released any time soon.

This is a good game. Not that the CoH game won't be, but they certainly are taking their time with it. LnL have cleaned up the rules and the components of this are top notch.

Working on my review of HoP this weekend. Now that Vance has started drinking again and worked out the Vassal bugs, I need to take that for a spin, too.

I may work on making an ebook of the rules/charts/scenarios this weekend and then give Vance's VASSAL module a try since my uber-cool gaming table is already occupied.
