In honor of probably THE most famous riff in rock and roll and the bands attempt to get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I give you Smoke On the Water!
There will definitely be some Civ IV BtS mp this weekend. There will also be lots of sleep. And maybe some junk food. It's been a loooooong month.
A lot of PBEM's going on:
War Plan Orange
Budapest '45
France '14
Campaign Series Middle East
AGEOD's Thirty Years War
AGEOD's BOA2 Wars in America
Other Stuff:
I have started experimenting with War in the West again after buying the Torch Expansion. Which has some really nice scenario's. I am starting to wrap my head around the air system which is very complex but I can see it being a very effective tool when mastered. I eventually want to graduate to PBEM play but it's going to take some time. Just wading in and enjoying the game slowly.
Continuing my campaign in Baldurs Gate 2 Enhanced Edition which is just one of the Best AD&D games I have played. Completely ruined the Gold Box games for me.
WOFF
DC3 beta
Development work
Steam and iron
Blood Bowl 2
RimWorld
Maybe some Combat Mission...
First things first- I'm definitely firing up Dirt Rally to see what that's all about.
Once I have my wheel HOTAS set up I'm likely to go all in on driving including F1:2013 and perhaps some Eurotruck 2.

I like that one MD "a Friday in the Sky"
for me, probably lots more
World of Warships.. not sure when I'll get sick of it. Maybe a lil
JTCS.
I propose a motion to change this weekends theme song to one by "Three Dog Night" in tribute to founding member and avid wargamer Cory Wells who passed away this week.
As for me, painting Blood Bowl miniatures, working on a set of team cards for Blood Bowl, playing tabletop Blood Bowl (and maybe tinker more with BB2) and also getting the components ready to do the artwork for MadRussian's "Fire Team: Red Eclipse" game that is getting underway for production.
Apparently I need to state my case a little more forcibly.

Like a chump, I resubbed for a month of SWTOR. So that's what I'll be doing.
Let's see, I need to finish up turning and buffing a wand for my daughter's Halloween costume (also my first wood turning project)
Beyond that, I think it will be a paradox weekend (continue trying to learn Vicky 2 and HOI 3, plus some ck2) and maybe some PoE to break the monotony up
Been sick as a dog all weekend.... just back to work today.
This weekend is a Friend's 50th Bday party where we'll start the day with Archery Tag.

What could possibly go wrong.... :idiot2:
After that Wing Leader PBEM, yard work, Rebel Galaxy, yard work, Heroes of Normandie PBEM, yard work... and maybe some yard work.
Looks like another busy weekend with little gaming options.... :(
I will focus on my campaign of Imperium Galactica II on my Acer A1....love that small thing to play on the go.
when theres chance - therell be Elite, i have an Asp to upgrade and some slaves to deliver - ive spent a lot of time trying to find out if proper smuggling has been introduced yet and i dont believe it has - until then slaves are on the menu but i will have a look around for other illegal substances
Restarting MGS V seems like a huge climb at the mo but ill probably give it a go
And i fancy some XCOM
and more s*** dice throwing in Cyranos HoN Pbem
I got family coming for my Step-Daughter's Baby Shower which I'll be attending by order of her and her mother so not much gaming this weekend. I've been hankering to return to Skyrim again and saw the "Forbidden City" mod was very highly rated by users and was wondering if anyone here has tried it out. If so, let me know what you think about it. It's at the Steam Workshop. Happy Weekend Grogs!

Music to my ears O0 Very much looking forward to this one.
Ooohhhh Skyrim! Maybe if my Scotch/Bushmills intake impairs my ability to drive too much I'll download and try out that Forbidden City mod...it's about time to head back to Skyrim. It's been too long!
I installed the Forbidden City mod earlier, so I'll be looking at that this weekend.
Forbidden City mod for Skyrim you say? Must check it out.
Inspired by this nasty cold that I must have caught from Bart, I am also thinking of getting Plague: Evolved.
Barring the above I will dabble in Shadow of Mordor and Age of Wonders III and take many hot showers to break up mucus. Fun!

I beg to differ, the most famous riff in rock and roll is "Taurus" by Spirit :2funny:. Little inside joke there, bonus points for any that get it.

There are numerous greats who aren't in the RRHoF. Even more shocking when you see some of those which ARE. May as well call it Pop Music Hall Of Fame, at times. ::)
Gonna try some
Armored Warfare this weekend.
Tonight I'll be editing/rendering my Northern Inferno stream from yesterday and putting the finishing touches on v1.0 of my Hunting Submarines Command scenario. Once that is done completed I'm going to roll a die on what I should do for my next scenario. Right now I'm debating between Operation Dreamland from RSR , a scenario centered around a US or UK amphibious group, or using some hypothetical Soviet BB/BCs as raiders with the player having to hunt them down.
Will be doing my normal twitch live stream tomorrow, this week featuring...you guessed it Northern Inferno.
Scattered wherever I can find time the rest of the weekend will be some Rebel Galaxy, Elite, and WoWS.

RRHoF is a joke. Not sure if this still holds but one of the requirements to either be nominated or elected (not sure of which) was that the band had to donate a significant amount of memorabilia to the hall. Typically stuff that would have real value for the "honor" to be in the Hall. One of the reasons it took decades for Kiss to get in since they are all about their brand

Like a chump, I resubbed for a month of SWTOR. So that's what I'll be doing.
I came so close to giving in, but I pulled back at the last minute. Oh no, I feel the urge again.
Man alive but did my gaming go all over the place tonight. I started off with Dirt Rally which as I mentioned in the other thread looks simply amazing cranked up. Wrecked the crap out of my Subie, but it has a great feature where you can watch a replay from your race with various camera angles. That was pretty epic.
I played just a bit of Rome 2, which only makes me like 3 years late to the party. What a fantastic game- the atmosphere is really great and I like the details added to the armies. I don't like all the mandatory province management; I'm an "auto-manage" guy in M2TW.
After a couple of unsuccessful attempts to get onto a KotH server for ARMA 3 I gave up and settled on some Madden 08 with the Football Freaks XV mod. Still working on my Cowboys franchise. Finished game 3 of pre-season against the 0-2 Dolphins. We played at Miami with a thunderstorm going on in the background and that was uber-cool with the thunder and rain going off the whole time. I played kind of bad, not sure if it was all the scotch the coach was drinking or what. My running game never did take off, and I made one questionable play early on that gave the Dolphins good field position. Still I managed to eeek out a 19-13 win; how you score 19 points in football I don't even know. But I did it. So I'm going into week 4 3-0.
After that I didn't want the stress of another scored game so I played Saints (me) vs. Colts (AI). Another good game with the teams pretty well matched up. I gave up both a penalty and a turnover that really hurt me and we went into the 4th quarter tied 13-13, after I failed to capitalize on an interception inside 2 minutes before the half, and then threw a mid-field pass with no timeouts left, leaving us out of time at the 3 yard line. Still, I got a late 4th quarter interception and turned that into a TD with :53 left and then held off the Colts' drive at the 40 with a tackle with inches for the 3rd down conversion. Fun times and maybe a little more tense than I look for at 10pm on a Friday night!
Incidentally, Howard Stern had John Fogarty on about 2 weeks ago, and it was agreed all around that the riff to Fortunate Son was the best riff evar.
Pretty epic interview, BTW. Fogarty has a great voice, still.
But Deep Purple is nice, I guess...
There are tons of iconic guitar licks. Even a lot of them that can be recognized from the first note, but, it's not Fortunate Son that guitar and bass players learn as their very first lick, but, Smoke On the Water.
As far as Madden, are you just calling the plays? Or are you playing the players?
For Madden I am both calling the plays and then playing each play. I'm a big fan, on defense, of taking the left tackle for Dallas (Selvie). For offense, I like to take my options but Witten has been very dependable when I've gone to him, as well as Murray.
I do like to see what Madden calls as an assist, but I'd say I take his advice maybe 20% of the time.
I stopped playing Madden in the early 2000's. Had a Bucs franchise for three or four seasons in the '99 iteration. Didn't play much after that. It started to become more about actually knowing how to play QB and read defenses and what not. Early versions it was easier to just pick a play and wing it and get it right.
So to close out the night I booted up EA's NHL 08 playing the Phlyers vs. the Ducks. Ok, I actually started with the Sixers and NBA but basketball, frankly, completely confounds me. I have no idea whatsoever what I'm doing. I grew up watching the Phlyers so I have at least a rudimentary working knowledge of hockey.
We started off very slow, as expected, not knowing the control scheme. Once I figured it out we connected with 3 goals pretty quickly and it was game on. We finished the half 3-3, but going into the 2nd and 3rd periods the AI adjusted and capitalized on a couple of really poor passes in my zone. So end game was 6-3 but I did learn a lot for a first game. NHL is much faster paced than the NFL, but since I don't care, it might be the perfect 10pm Friday night game. It requires more reflexes, though, so maybe not. Perhaps baseball is the right call?
Baseball is hardest of all! Hitting a baseball is TOUGH! LOVE to play some hockey though. I don't know the nuances of it, but, I know enough to enjoy.

I have fallen in love with a game I don't have, NFL 2k5 for the Xbox. Just Youtube some videos of that. I'm thinking of getting an Xbox solely to play that game....it's that awesome.
It was the best football arcade game ever made in my opinion....the halftime show was amazing, showing other game highlights....was just like watching the real thing.
Exactly. And what I'm seeing from gameplay, first of all it's amazing. But the FPS view is just super uber cool. So as much as I love Madden, and it has its place, I think as a football fan it might be worth getting an Xbox just to play this game...and any other games that also work are gravy, eg. NCAA games.
You would need to find the original Xbox for it, never came out for Xbox 360 or Xbox one. Although the game was great, probably too much effort for me to do that at this point:). Would love to see a modern version but with ea owning the nfl license, not much of a chance.
I thought it worked on 360?

Don't recall it originally working but maybe since then they found a way. I did see there was a way for the PC, you have to install a PS2 emulator and then somehow install the PS2 version.
If you figure all that nonsense out, please let me know. I saw that too, but there is only so much pain I'll go through...I do have Madden (which is awesome).

I own it...while you cannot play it multiplayer online anymore the last time I checked it did still work.
Ok, just confirmed that it NFL 2K5 does work on the 360. Issue is there is no way to update rosters and stats that I know of.

IMHO this game has something that 10 years later Madden still can't do right...realistic ball physics. The ball gets tipped here and it's a mad dash by every player in the area. Ball tips in Madden and it's a script where everyone stands around like the play just finished.

More CMANO for me. I bought the Northern Inferno expansion and I wanted to check it out, but I'm not going to dive in until I get through the Northern Fury scenarios. Hopefully some updates to the Bardufoss Blues AAR this weekend.
Fortunate Son is one of the top 10 American rock songs of all time. And CCR one of the best American bands ever.
That is all.
with Elite staring at me and shaking its head, and MGS V tutting loudly in the corner i opted for EU IV - i blame Huw

Trying out the OP TORCH dlc for War in the West. Just scored a marginal victory against Rommel at Kasserine Pass on the last turn, which makes for a nice start.
Edit: And being a sucker for quality, complex wargames I've picked up Command Modern Air/Naval Ops while it's on sale. :D
Finally trying to play through the campaigns for Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis after installing the excellent ECP 1.3 graphics mod for the game.
Playing as Greece in Victoria 2 using the Historical Project Mod.

I played Pike and Shot. A great game. So far I'm in the 1690s mostly. I think the last time I saw any games for that period was in the 1970s with SPI's musket and pike.
I also flew some CLOD more or less in the editor.
Played some more Shadow of Mordor, and set up a new campaign in Age of Wonders III, playing for the first time as a human faction.
threw a wonderful selection of 1s and 2s in my HoN PBEM with Cyrano - needless to say im displeased >:(
things continue at a good pace against KyzBP in the WitP AE game
