Available NOW on the BMS site.
This is just...jaw dropping. This is it. I will not need another flight sim for the rest of my life.
Oh. My. God! :smitten:
Just downloaded it. See you guys in a month or two. O0
Any advice on how to get your control settings to stick? Everytime I configure my throttle and stick in the advanced flight control settings, I lose my POV hat for view control. When I go to reconfigure my POV hat, I lose all my saved axis settings for the throttle and stick...what gives? I'm pressing "ok" and "save" where appropriate.
Think this might be it...

I don't want you to think I'm ignoring you- I won't be able to download this and play it for a few days at least probably. Can you believe my HOTAS when TU? So until Amazon brings me another, I'm sorta watching on the sidelines.
Man does that trailer look fantastic though. Auto-gen trees! F-4! F/A-18! Harrier! New comms!
I feel your pain. One of the axis plates in my Thrustmaster Cougar snapped. :'( I've had that HOTAS for 15 years :smitten: and nothing else feels right. However, this new release just might allow me to get used to the CH replacements Amazon just delivered.
Wow...looks gorgeous! This isn't a game it is a career. :)
If I wanted to play this, what software do I need? Falcon 4.0?
Yep, falcon 4...can pick up at gog if you don't own yet.

I wonder how quickly we could see support for VR headsets that are supposed to be out next year?

All you need to do is install F4 then point BMS to the F4 install folder. Works like a charm.

Yes. No need to dig up those old CD's
Two questions...can it be downloaded without registering on the BMS site?
...and do the non-F-16 planes still use the F-16 avionics under the hood?
Thanks
Holy crap!
Thats awesome!!! That trailer is amazing. Buddy lasing made the cut. New weapons avionics.
The guys at Benchmark continue to be a great opponent for DCS.
With the improvements to the graphics they made sure Falcon will remain relevant for a long time to come and if the Ground War has indeed been improved well, I'd argue Falcon might be All we need as serious air combat sim enthousiasts because DCS os taking so freakin long and lacks the whole Dynamic war part.
JH, Controls are funny in BMS. The most reliable thing I've found is to edit the .cfg file of the Controls profile you use in something like Notapad++.
Still, its hard to find which functions do work and no longer work, as the file is riddled with references to old inputs obsolete in BMS.
I am sorry I cant be of any more help.
I know this will sound odd, but I usually do direct downloads and haven't messed with torrent files so far.....is their a specific recommended application I should use?

You can, but right now it is only seeding through torrents. I can't figure out how to copy the link over here. When it shows up on servers I'll post some links here.
The non-F-16 planes still use F-16 avionics. I don't think there are any plans to change that...at least in the foreseeable future. On the one hand that's a bummer. Having played some of the DCS modules I realize how lame it is to fly a MiG-29 with F-16 avionics, for example. On the other hand, once you understand how the F-16 works you can try any other plane without a huge learning curve, or having to re-map your HOTAS to the new plane.
For me, personally, it's all "close enough." The purists stick with the F-16 only.
Doing Carrier Ops in an F/A-18 is just as fun in BMS as it will be in DCS's module (or as it was in Jane's F/A-18 sim). :)
I wouldn't know the difference between how an F-16 or an F/A-18 handles anyway, cause I never flew them in real life. As long as the flight model gives me a believable version of a Jet fighter FM I am happy.
If then, the F/A-18 is based on the Viper's avionics, but still shows a F/A-18 cockpit.... so what? The functionality is roughly the same anyway. You fire a gun, you drop bombs, you shoot missiles. HUD systems are generally pretty much the same from Western fighter to fighter. So what's hampering the experience? Only the fact that you know the aircraft is based on the F-16 avionics eventhough it shows you the correct cockpit? Does it matter?
As detailed as these are in Falcon, they are still a simplification from the real jet and that doesn't bother people either.
Just my two cents. And I fly aircraft for real (and with former Viper pilots, who are all pretty amazed at what BMS offers).
Here's some more info for you JH:
http://www.bmsforum.org/forum/showthread.php?23196-Hat-key-not-registering-in-control-setup
That's always been my attitude Yassy, but I understand the counter-argument as well. It's about choice and I'm glad BMS offers that. I know that a lot of their team want BMS to solely focus on the F-16 ONLY, and in fact, many vocal community members feel the same way. I'm glad other opinions prevail.
Having said all that, although none of the FMs for the other jets are done to the level of the F-16 (I think) they are still very different. Try flying an F-4 in campaign, for example, and you'll find even with the F-16 avionics you'll have a much greater challenge, from the number of MFDs available, the weapons you can carry, the visibility out of the cockpit, and the much more limited thrust to weight, etc. It's a handful.

I use uTorrent. When you install it, just be careful to read the EULAs and don't inadvertently install spamware...it will offer you one or two that you have to uncheck (I really hate that). Other than that, though, it works just fine. I downloaded, installed, and am now downloading the BMS torrent and the whole process from start to finish (from downloading uTorrent to downloading BMS) was less than a minute.
Wow, downloaded the torrent in less than 5 minutes. Good stuff!
Even though my Fighterstick is dead (new one due on Monday) I might take a hop in the F-16D in the backseat and let the AI fly the jet so I can see what's going on at least. All right, enough posts from Toonces for a while.
Check six, Toonces and Godspeed!
I am trying to get my TM WH configured decently. I think my best bet is going off Morphine's profile and edit that to suit my own needs. Or at least use it to figure out how I should edit my own profile.
This always has been the most annoying part of BMS. :P
I also use uTorrent. Heed Toonces' warning, though, or else you will be stuck with very annoying malware crap. uTorrent itself is clean, however and safe to use.
Thanks for the link yskonym. I'm still struggling though. Somehow I managed to get a configuration that seems ok, but I'm edge. Just not sure what is going on there.
Anyway, I'm not a big fan of torrents either. I also used utorrent for this and like Toonces, had the file in less than 5 minutes. Very fast, very simple.
Thanks guys, I ended up using something called Deluge...mine downloaded within about 5 minutes too.....I am also experiencing some weirdness with controller setup that I did not have happen in prior version (assigning weapons and other controls).
The best way is to avoid assigning functions in the game's UI, but rather EDIT the controller file directly. It has always been like this due to the legacy of Falcon 4.0 itself.
As far as axis go, I think I finally have something I'm comfortable with.

I guess now this deserves another foray into bms....now for the control woes...man I shouldn't have uninstalled.
Carrier ops too !

I saw someone on the BMS forums posted that he copied the keyfile from BMS 4.32 over to 4.33 and it worked fine. So if you have 4.32 installed and have a working config you might try just dropping that in your config folder, loading it under settings and see how it works for you instead of reconfiguring your HOTAS automatically.

Yeah, I am reinstalling the prior version right now to see if I can bring over the mappings to make it easier...
ALWAYS Back-up your control files, cause there is a known issue (with 4.32 at least) that these files get overwritten easily if you fiddle inside the Controls options menu.
I keep mine in a seperate folder so I can always copy the files back easily.
Seems my 4.32 profile works like a charm in 4.33 too. That saves me some headaches!

Just curious if anyone has ever used the TacView product for analyzing your flights within these games...happened to come across it and seems interesting. There is a free version with limited features and then home/professional versions. Not sure how much it can help you improve your skills, but interesting nonetheless.

Is there a trick to getting this to run?
I bought and installed Falcon 4.0. I then downloaded and installed BMS 4.33. The launcher starts and I'm able to go into various parts of the launcher (though I haven't changed anything)...but when I click Launch, I get nothing. Falcon BMS.exe shows in my processes list - but no game. Also - the Falcon BMS.exe eventually disappears from the processes listed in Task Manager
Any help gratefully received. I will of course go and check over at BMS - but as I've never had any of the others installed, I was wondering if there was something specific I had to do.
Thanks.
We use tacview All the time! The free version is good enough to start with.

I didn't have to change anything on mine for it to run properly....just installed the BMS file and then used the launcher to start the game. I know that doesn't help you solve your problem though...
no probs. Thanks anyway ;D
Try running it in 32 bit mode and see if that works.
Tried that. All the same result.
I'll go looking about - see what I can find out. I thought it might be that crap RAPTR software AMD stick on the machine. That's killed f1 2015 and pCars for me before. I was tearing my hair out wondering why the hell they suddenly stopped working - switch off the RAPTR interface and bingo....alas - it wasn't that with BMS.
Don't press the Launch button in the config tool. It doesn't do anything.
Just start the Launcher.exe file and press Launch there.
Thanks Yskonyn - but that's the Launch button I was pressing (I was referring to the BMS Launcher as the config tool...not the config tool IN the launcher.
It did get me to try something else though...starting the Falcon4 BMS.exe on it's own. Tried the 64 bit and I got a "Falcon BMS has stopped working" error. I tried again with the 32 bit and hey presto...it worked.
So it seems it was that RAPTR crap afterall. I'm sure this must've been reported to AMD. I've got a virtual virgin PC here and it's still playing havoc with my games.
Pity the 64 bit won't work though...I wonder what gives there. I'd really like the game to have access to *GB of memory.
Anyway - thank you.

Sweet! Glad you fixed it.
Guess who's CH Fighterstick was unexpectedly sitting by the front door this morning? ;D
I've been goofing off in the TE checking out the new cockpits. Holy crap did they do a great job on some of these jets. The Harrier external model is spectacular.
There is so much content here to explore...wow, it's going to take a while to figure this all out! :smitten:
Ok, JD, just thought I'd mention it. :)
Glad you got it sorted.
Guys, if there is any interest in running the persistent campaign multiplayer I can setup a Dedicated Server for us flyboys.
Just drop a note here if you're interested.
I have owned F4 since the original "big binder" package. I loved it in the late 90's and moved on to Il-2. I screwed around with Free Falcon, BMS, Allied Force, etc. and always walked away disappointed or frustrated. It's been at lteast 10 years since I actuall did more than just try it out...This is different.
I can't believe all the features and options in the new BMS. I put the plane on combat autopilot and just watch the action. Its beautiful.
BTW Toonces, are you guys still actively working on the Nevada theatre of ops for BMS ?
The problem returned last night. :(
I'll get there. ;D

I'll test a couple of things tonight.
Also, anyone interested in the game just be aware that this is a study-sim.... so be prepared to put a lot of hours in and die a lot and by a lot I am a lot..... One of the largest threats in the game is the SAM sites. They will mess you up quickly. Just be smart and remember it is priority that you save your A/C and yourself so there is no "I'm flying to the objective no matter what".... there are times you have to abort.
Also, it is critical that you pre-plan your mission around the kamikaze path the AI routes you through. This means marking threats and altering your path. Just don't get frustrated and realize that dying is just apart of this sim.
I can not stress this enough "SITUATIONAL AWARENESS" is what was drilled to me in the military and it applies here. You have to be constantly aware of what is around you and ahead of you.
PE
Is anyone aware of a quick tutorial for how to create quick missions in the TE? I'd like to set up simple flights with no combat objects to practice take-off, navigation, systems, landing, etc. in a variety of different aircraft and flight configurations.
Thanks.

I plan on checking this new version out sometime, but I've always had some such screwy issue with Falcon 4 mods in the past. I expect to have similar problems, especially with a shiny new version of BMS, so thanks for being the lab rats! :))

I am not sure how well it would run. I'll have to look into it. But the plan is 24/7 online with perhaps a pause when no clients are connected.
I am not sure if it works this way or if multiplayer campaign is just a co-op version of the sp save of one's campaign. I'll have a look and report back, but if only you and I are interested I am not going to let a PC run for 24/7.
it should be used by several people at least.
Picked this up this weekend. What is the best tutorial source out there? I hopped into 'training' mission. The cockpit looked oddly familiar, then I realized of course it's familiar, they dumped me in a Warthog!
^ I'm not sure...I was kind of wondering that myself. Best bet might be to Google on Youtube and see what you can find.
@ Jarhead, I'm not aware of any tutorials (doesn't mean they're not out there). The TE builder is pretty intuitive, though, if you're just looking to put some flights on the map to screw around. Create a new TE, right click on the map, click "add flight" and then you can adjust from there. If you want to put OPFOR jets then click the red flag to switch sides before putting flights on the map.
I didn't get to spend too much time with BMS this weekend, but from the little time I did spend, and from reading the forums, a lot has changed with respect to how the avionics work. I copied over my key profile from 4.32 but a lot of it does not work anymore. It's definitely going to take some time with the key file and HOTAS to sort it all out. Also, just the way the avionics work has changed a bit.
I've been flying Falcon for almost 20 years now and I'm quite a bit lost, so if you guys are coming into this only moderately experienced with Falcon expect to struggle a bit. I haven't even started RTFM yet, but it looks like that's going to be necessary now.
Lastly, I started messing around in the MiG-29A for kicks and was completely lost in the cockpit. That's never happened before in an add-on jet. So...yeah there's a lot of meat in the sim. It's going to require some work to get proficient, but this looks like it could be the iteration of Falcon I've been waiting for forever. I think this is worth investing some time in.
Anyone copy their config over successfuly... my joystick config is till wacked.
I took the FA/18 up for a quick flight.... however my keys are out of wack... arghh.
PE
Like Toonces, I found that my profile doesn't completely work afterall, so what I did is look in the \Docs\Keyfiles & Input folder.
I started the Excel keyfile editor and went from there.
I now have my device numbers setup correctly and I have a stock BMS-Full keymap and callbacks file set to my HOTAS and MFD setup. So the main things work now.
What I am unable to find out though, is how I can change callback assignments on my HOTAS and then save it to a custom keyfile.... Anyone have an idea? I don't find the manuals and docs very clear at this point.
@Toonces, you might have missed me earlier question; do you guys still work on the Nevada theatre?

Look in the Docs\BMS Manuals\ folder. There is a 150 page training document.
I'm not currently working on anything.
There was a group that said they were working Nevada but that was a couple of years ago. I wouldn't hold your breath.
Is the toonces on the bms forums not you?

BTW JD, I now run into the Launcher not doing anything when I press Launch for the 64-bit version. It happens to me when I make a profile in my NVIDIA control panel for the 64bit executable. 32bit runs fine with a profile for it.
I have made a thread on the forums.
^ Thank you - I thought I was alone. I haven't been making any profile or anything - but there's some comfort in having company :buck2:
Arrgghhh.... relearning the avionics/keys is frustrating to say the least, but I really can't complain. It is just I am use to doing everything the old way so it will take a while. My mapping to my flight stick I had to redo as well and bring my data cartridge over.

That's me. Like I said, I haven't done anything with Nevada in a "couple" of years...ok so 1 year and a few months. I had hoped to put together a team but those guys said they were working on it and didn't really seem eager to bring on other people so I dropped it.
