Title: Picture Hosting Software
Post by: JudgeDredd on November 04, 2015, 08:20:25 AM
Hi all

Does anyone know of any picture hosting software websites out there that gives good "links" to embed in forum posts, doesn't spam you continuously with promotional emails and doesn't ask you to sign your life away?

I'm totally fed up with photobucket. I get at least 2 and sometimes 4 emails a day with offers and when I login to upload pictures, they fire me off to some crap third party website too.

It's free - so I knew there would be an element of "paying by the backdoor", but I expected that may take the form of adverts on their webpages...not spamming me and forcing my browser to another site.

Yeah, Photobucket has got to be a pain in the arse.

It's ease of use is pretty good - but it is a huge spamware pita. The emails are not hurting me - they're just damned annoying. And they say they own your photos too, if I'm not mistaken.

I have no problem with Photobucket. I agree their emails are a pain, so early on I just marked them as spam - problem solved.

The commercials/ads on the site are annoying but as you said, it's free, so you gotta put up with some stuff. Here's a hint - upload directly to your library; don't use the Upload link to do that. If you do upload via the Upload link, you get to sit there and watch the progress of your upload and they throw in a super-annoying video. If you upload via your Library instead, you can avoid all that nonsensical shite.

I use Flickr.  Works decently enough so far.

I don't get much in the way of spam from Photobucket. I must have unsubscribed from most of their email lists at some point. I run an ad blocker in FF, so I don't see much in the way of ads on the site either.

Dumb question: what's FF?

I'm far removed from using Firefox. I went to Chrome a long time ago and haven't looked back (though Firefox was a great thing while it lasted with me). I do have an adblock associated with my Firefox page so I can do online streaming through there without the annoying ads.

Sorry, that was a dumb question.  :buck2:

The Ad Block Plus plugin for Firefox is one the better ad blockers.

And before Brant freaks out, I have it turned off on GH.

Chrome's ad blocker isn't quite as good as Firefox. Also, Chrome has some nasty memory leaks that I'm not sure Google has addressed or even cares about. When I run multiple tabs in Chrome, it spawns a bunch of processes that eat up a ton of memory. Firefox has it's own set of issues, but I still prefer it over Chrome.

If I ever get a new rig I might go back to Firefox, but mine started acting oddly a few years back which prompted my switchover.

Definitely gotta be careful with Chrome; it causes my PC fits if I have too many tabs open, and God forbid I try to go through Chive at any great length.

Will ask an "are you human?" question, and occasionally show a few-second mini-commercial before an upload.  But you don't have to log in or be pestered about giving them money.  You have to do one pic at a time but it doesn't take long and the interface is easy.

Also gives each uploaded pic in multiple code formats, so you can just copy the one with the [img] forum tags straight off and paste it into your post.  No mini-thumb link, just full-on pic.  Make sure it's set to "default size" before you hit "upload".
