Title: Time for a weekend gaming thread?
Post by: undercovergeek on May 18, 2012, 07:05:40 AM
The weekend is upon us, well, almost.

The forum ninjas are watching...... what are you playing this weekend, although i dont expect this to veer far away from D3 and Warlock.

Myself, im still on the high seas working the Caribbean trade routes in Port Royale 3, and ill be downloading CK2 after being inspired by a quite frankly hilarious AAR over at Paradox.

Will be finishing off a CMBN scenario also

Good gaming chaps and have a great weekend................

No gaming this weekend. My wife and I and some friends are going to wine country for the weekend.
Off all next week, Monday's a holiday up here, to put in the veggie garden and other general start of summer yard work. Might get in some early morning Warlock or late night VASSAL games.

After my wife and I put in our garden I think I might have earned some gaming time.

I plan on playing some Warlock as well as repressing some peasants in Tropico 4.

World of Tanks has become my thing between 8-11 every night. Clanwars has really brought new life to the game for me. Im developing most of the  tactics for our Clan (   http://worldoftanks.com/community/clans/1000000874-WKC/  ).
We have come a long way in a few months actually taking and holding territory for a few days this week.
The difference between playing public matches which are a total free for all, and clan battles where you are actually using real military tactics is huge. Also meeting a great bunch of guys including a retired British army guy who now lives in New Zealand, and a couple other ex-M1 Abrams tankers like myself.

Undercover hit most of my faves.

I'll probably start a new Warlock campaign, do some Diablo III, and try to set aside some time to paint some Flames of War minis. Port Royale 3 will probably rear its head at some point, but after that I'm not sure. I may have to do some Heroes & Generals just to check in on it.

I'll be spending some time with Warlock and hopefully will find some time to start checking out Endless Space.

Gamersgate are currently doing a crazy deal (-80%) on Disciples 3: Resurrection so I'm downloading it now.  I haven't finished my main campaign but I love the Undead race so I will probably fire it up to have a look innit?

I've really been enjoying Stellar Impact so I will definitely play a few more games of that this weekend.  Might get some time in with Evochron Mercenary.  And, as ever, I'll be playing Stronghold Kingdoms.

No gaming for me either.  I'm taking my girlfriend's coon hound to an agility training boot camp in Philly. We're going to have a blast.

Well - thanks to Virgin Media my broadband was increased from 20Mbps to 60Mbps free of charge - unfortunately after a few days, it is not working today and the engineer is booked for Monday...so no iRacing or BF3 for me this weekend.

I will therefore be doing 1 of 3 things...
1. Playing Hornet Leader (boardgame)
2. Playing KA-50 Black Shark or A-10C
3. Model making - working on my Mosquito
4. OOTP13 - must continue my Anaheim Angels career

What will I be doing?

1. The endless WitpAE PBEM.
2. StrikeFighters2 off Iceland 2.0
Boardgames: Prussia's Glory and Harpoon 4.1

Just packed my family off to Disneyworld. I am free for 4 days. After the initial bout of hiking, drinking and carousing with my dog and human friends, I will be continuing my Warlock campaign, marching my armies of undead across the landscape. I have always wanted to type that.

Crossing my fingers that Diablo III arrives before the family gets back too.

And in between going to watch some manly movies at full blast, Gladiator and Gangs of New York, maybe some others.

TIME TO PAR TAY

I will try to fit these into the our busy soccer (sorry, football for those across the pond) schedule this weekend in no particular order.

CoH
Darkest Hour
Tabletop - ASL shindig an Saturday
Tabletop - Picked up 7 Wonders for the family to try

The youngest is having a birthday shindig tomorrow that includes food, cupcakes, a bouncy hut and I'm sure no less than 20 screaming 3 year olds. Beyond that I've got some spring cleaning to do in the garage and in the storage areas.  However as far as gaming there are only 2 games in my life right now.

Diablo 3 - I just beat Act II last night.
Conflict of Heroes - My night attempt at the Monsters Scenario and hopefully a multiplayer game at some point.

I'm not sure honestly.  I guess it depends on how you play.  If you stop/start for an hour of gaming a night, it'll take quite some time as you have to re-clear areas.

I'll be Working my way through nightmare difficulty on Diablo 3. Somehow I've ended up way under geared and RNG is refusing to cooperate. I can solo stuff well enough but once I add a friend or two my survivability goes down to zero. Still having a blast with it.

If I can tear myself away from D3, then I might put in some time with the World of Warcraft: Mist of Panderia beta.

I should have some time tonight and tomorrow for gaming.  Sunday will be spent similarly to Bison with a number of screaming kids at my daughter's b-day party.  It'll be at the beach, at least!

For tonight/tomorrow, I am chock full of new games to try out.  I just cleared out Kvatch and closed my first Oblivion gate in Oblivion, so I'll probably play some more of that.

I just bought a whole handful of games, one of which is War in the North, and I plan to give that some game time.

I have a Steam 50% off coupon for King Arthur II, which I am going to buy, but I will probably play more of my ongoing King Arthur original campaign.

And beyond that, who knows.  Mount and Blade of some sort and just too many games to keep track of.

I bopped around a bunch of games tonight.  Nothing could hold my interest very long, except.....

...except for King Arthur.  You know, this game really hits a sweet spot for me.  I'm sort of bummed at how badly it was treated for the most part (IMO).  It really is a magnificent game.  I know a lot of folks find that M2TW doesn't provide much of a challenge, but I have never found myself lacking for a challenge in KA.  In fact, many times (like right now), I have to take a break because of brain burn.  Like in my campaign right now, I have no easy choices, no wasted moves to make.  I have serious things I need to do, and all of them will require getting down and dirty with ugly, difficult tactical battles on which the fate of the last 80 turns will revolve.  It's quite an investment of gaming time.

I just love this game.  Sure, there are some things I don't like, but for the most part, it really scratches my gaming itch.  In fact, my biggest complaint would just be that the game is so hard.  There are tough decisions to make every turn, and plenty of tough fights, and all around it is quite challenging, but the atmosphere is top notch.  I highly recommend this game to anybody with even a passing interest in the subject matter.

I'm very slowly downloading Batman: Arkham City on a connection that is envious of 20mb, never mind 60mb. I live in Central London on a road which is about 50 yards away from Virgin Cable (fast cable), but that does me exactly no good since the last 50 yards may as well be light years.

Never mind, because in the meantime I'm enjoying more and more practice at Conflict of Heroes and may well delve into MP games this weekend. I'm tempted to pick up Warlock because I'm sure I'd like it and it is being actively discussed, but I figure I can also hold off easy enough until it is patched, expanded and discounted.

I'm also reading the excellent Day Z diaries over at Rock, Paper, Shotgun. Every one moves me a hex closer to buying Arma Combined Operations so I can play the mod. Last time I bought a game to play a mod was Medieval Total War II (for the second time) in order to play Third Age (Lord of the Rings mod)

I'll be playing some LnL 'Cobra' scenario's later, and maybe more Shogun 2 as I have almost finished my first campaign.

Just now I keep stopping to look at Diablo 3 which the wife is playing. For some reason to do with her WoW/battlenet account, she got it as a free download......looks OK, but not sure if its my kinda game :-\

Looking at it, it reminds me of Dungeon Seige / Neverwinter Nights / Baldurs Gate type games, which she also used to play a lot (pre WoW).

Well I played several games last night and for one reason or another, had a bloody awful session.  Tonight, after all this Diablo talk, I've decided to try Torchlight which I bought on release but never really played.  I've heard nothing but good stuff about it so I'm expecting a better gaming session tonight!

Torchlight was pretty good!  Vibrant, attractive visuals, plenty of loot, a pet dog and lots of monsters to smite about the head and shoulders.  I was hampered by Sticky Mouse Button Syndrome but I'll give it a good old clean tonight before the next session.  Looks like I'll be just in time for the sequel when I finish this one, too.

I tried so hard to like Torchlight - but (again - I have said this before I think) RPGs (and hack and slash...is that what they're called?) just don't seem to be my cup of tea

My only real issue with Torchlight was that while the game was generally not that hard, the final boss battle...good lord! Seriously Huw, make sure you have about 20 minutes before you tackle the final boss.

Heh, noted!  Thanks.  I'm still enjoying it; it has a couple of niggling issues but what game doesn't?  I can't imagine why I didn't bother playing it when I first bought it, it's a very solid game indeed.

Torchlight is good fun and has some unique classes.

I guess I'll have to take a look at Torchlight....eventually.  I just installed Neverwinter Nights 2 Platinum edition, and I have Witcher 2 sitting unwrapped next to me...ugh.  Plenty of great games, but nowhere near enough time to play them all!

Ha!  I just installed NWN2 again today.  I love Diablo 3, but I need to pace myself with it.  Plus some buddies just got it so I'll have plenty of playing ahead for the next several months.  I like NWN2 and it's been awhile since I've played through it.  It'll give me two fixes.  A good RPG and help curb the TT D&D cravings I've been having until I co-opt the kitchen table at night to roll some dice and talk to myself :D.
