Any New Year resolutions edicts from you guys this year... gaming or otherwise...
I have uninstalled all games and will only have 5 on my HD at one time. So when I do have the limited time I have to game I am focused. I am also going to get back to long distant running and complete at least 1 half marathon and possibly commit to doing another full. I also want to get through my stack of books.....
Here is to a year of Health, Expanding Your Knowledge, and World/Galaxical Domination!
PE
^I ran a 1/2 marathon in 2014. I felt as close to death as I ever have after that...don't think I'll do it again. Still run shorter distances (like 4 miles) 5-6 times a week.
I've tried to minimize how many games I also have on my HD but then I forget what I own...so I stopped worrying :)
I have also made in-roads on my giant book stack, so I need to continue progress.
I also want to attempt to create something instead of just consuming books, games, etc. My life's goal is to write the world's most frightening (in a good way) historical novels. But with two little girls right now may not be the best time for that.
I've run a half-marathon every year for the past 8, and am now getting into 10ks as there happen to be a few events near by.
Gaming-wise, I'm determined to not buy anything (save CMFB) this year. I have a stack of "big-ticket" SP games on my HDD that I want to do justice to plus my go-to MP games, so there really isn't any need to buy the next shiny thing.
And Gus, I also have several writing projects sitting on my HDD waiting for me to get off my arse (or should that be the other way round?) and do something to.
^Good luck with the writing. I know how hard it is to get back into it once you've stopped.
Running is child's play in comparison :)
1. Play what I've got computer-wise.
2. Get back into paper based RPGs in some form or fashion; I miss those geeky days of old.
3. Steer towards a more vegetarian based diet and certainly get outside more - and drag the kids with me whether they like it or not.
I get tired-out driving that far much less running. My goal for 2016 is to play a whole year's turn in Civil War II's Grand campaign.
^The best goals are the most realistic.
This year I really want to stick to a "Only Buy Games I'm 100% Certain I Will Play For More Than A Few Hours" rule. 2015 had too many impulse 'that sounds vaguely interesting' purchases that I now regret.
Good news is that I can probably count on one hand the number of games I'm genuinely excited about for 2016. And most of those are Paradox games :)
(I do reserve the right to adhere to a "Buy Games I'm Vaguely Interested In Once They've Been Discounted By 50% Or More" option, as a way of weaseling out of Rule 1...)

Oh yes on this one as
Vermintide looks to be an absolute blast and certainly on my list to get at some point.
Rule 2 was my absolute undoing during the Winter Steam Sale... Still, its logic is self-evident and unimpeachable, and so must be observed. At all costs.
I actually may do this against my will, Installed a new ssd then reformatted the wrong disk and porked my windows install. Going to a clean windows install for 2016 with only a half dozen games, lets see how long it lasts.
On the topic of running, if your 40 like me, switch to long distance swimming instead of running....your joints and ortho doc will love you and you may avoid a knee replacement somewhere in the next 20 years of your life.

man, turning 40 was a real kick in the teeth. hit me harder than i thought it would, psychologically speaking...
ah, well -- looking on the bright side... only 40 more years until I can retire... or semi-retire... O0
Yep, 40 was a tough one to swallow. I don't really keep track anymore.
I started running about 4 years ago and have never been healthier! I really do believe age is just a number.
*walks outside, gets hit by semi*
Well, *insert Clay Davis expletive*, I turned 41 nine years ago and am still running. There's hope yet whippersnappers!

no no, strapping, not strap on - thats you

I can hope to compete with neither of you. I don't have the scathing wit of ucg nor the top secret luftstache of Bawb.

Treadmill here. Mile and a half 3x a week at 2.5 mph. Just hang a donut in front of me and I keep on going.
Every little bit helps.

One of my old best buddies is a recently retired Marine Gunny Sgt.
He confessed that he couldn't swim worth a damn, just sink to the bottom, when he brought his family over for some poolside time last year. I nearly spit beer out my nose in disbelief. Told him it's a good thing he could hitch a ride on an Amtrak when it came down to business! ;D
For the first time in a while, I have made several resolutions for the new year...none of which I've written down or spoken aloud to anyone. Doing so always seems to dramatically reduce my odds of actually accomplishing any of them. :-\

How are your knees?
Knees are fine and I run mostly on the pavement (that would be sidewalk - I don't want to get run over). I maintain that the cushioning benefits on joints and ligaments of running on grass are out-weighed by the effects of less sure footing on a more uneven and slippery surface.
1] Go to the gym 3 days a week. We walk on an indoor track which has a rubberized surface.
2] Leave management at the end of the year.
I've taken up eating pork rinds again this year.
^Winner.
I've found I no longer need alcohol to pass out in random locations.
I had to stop lifting heavy weights a few years ago (cartilage damage) and, after turning that muscle into 10 kilos of blubber, I'm trying to do a lot more cardio. I try to get in at least 30 minutes per day on either the ellipticals at the gym, my recumbent bike at home, or the hiking trail and stairs of doom near my place (haven't been up there since mid-autumn though. I getting old and cranky and I ain't puttin' up with no rain!).
I have a FitBit and find that it's sometimes more of a hindrance than a help. It turns out that I end up walking an average of 10KM/day at work and climbing 40 flights of stairs. I use this as an excuse to eat more pizza.
Pizza is good.

I'm beginning to think Gus was making.. other.. implications with the "how are your knees" question. ^-^
My knees are great. That's a good thing since when I get down on them, sometimes I can't get back up.

Kneel before Zod.
Hey. I wear the pants in my family. I just can't ever find them where my wife puts them at. She tells me not to worry, she'll give them to me when I need them. And so, completely in charge, I need them very little it turns out.

I've managed to write some books. Getting them published seems to be the hard part for me. But perhaps a resolution of some sort will cover that as in: "Must write better query letters." Or at least spend two sessions on each before sending them out.
Ah, kids. I have two and have learned to write mostly late at night, which is kind of hard for me. But strangely productive. Over the last 12 years before last year, 3 books made their way through the rejection machinery of the publishing industry. But for 2015 and 2016 the rate will one book into the rejection vats per year! So I'm writing 4 times faster! Or the books are half as long. Okay: two times faster!
Gaming-wise, the kids and the writing are pushing that pretty far down the priority list. I'm happy playing arcadey tank games at the moment. Well, just Armored Warfare. I think because tanks have never interested me much so I don't care how arcadey a tank game it. Anyway, its all over pretty fast and doesn't cost much.

Go the Chuck Tingle route, but write erotic wargame themed stuff instead as I'm sure that that particular niche has not been explored yet. And no, I'm not going to look for stuff in that genre (if you can call it that) from my computer at work.
Or at home either.

I'm sure I will in a few years if the rejections keep coming thick and fast. Unfortunately, I've had a few things published in various odd (but not self-odd) locations over the last 45 years (I'm 60) so I'm still going the "find an agent and find publisher" route.

Well, I am planning to bump up the erotic angle over the next year or two. I'm not sure about how to get war games per se into that, but I often think fondly of games and simulations whilst writing some action-packed scene or other. For example, I know from war games and sims that putting events even slightly out of the expected order can have a big impact.

Ah, its easy! Start with the title and go from there - being self published means you have to go for the, "volume over quality," approach if you want to make the big bucks. For example:
Panzer LoverAdvanced Sex LeaderCock and Load; Heroes of the Bedroometc., etc.

Meng, I think bumping up the erotic angle is something that's illegal in a few states in the US. Fortunately, that line of decency to which Gus referred earlier has been crossed so often in this thread, it's not just blurred, it's pretty much been worn out.
For me, it's about getting more regular exercise (in the age category, I'm trailing Meng and FatherTed but seem to have many of you other whippersnappers licked). It's also about being more present with my kids (neither one yet in 1st grade). My mom passed recently, and while I wouldn't say I'd been neglecting my kids, it's given me even more perspective on what's important in life and what's not.
I already enacted Airboy's 2016 goal (of leaving management) in 2015--easiest way to leave management, I've found, is to leave the workforce. I'll let you guys know how that works for me.
That leave was voluntary and planned, I hope.
Damn...Meng s 60. Next thing you'll tell me is that Gusington is not my real name and Schneider from One Day at a Time died.

Schneider was 86. Even my chain-smoking completely insane grandmother lived to be 90.

I don't think I'll have too much trouble bumping up the erotic angle -- its a big factor in some things I've written, just not yet in any of the novels I'm sending off to agents. A couple of years ago agents were saying "Is this YA (that is "young adult" as in "appropriate for anyone over eight who can read a fairly simplistic novel")?" I think I can get around that now by slipping the words "erotic" or "sexy" or "neopicaresque" or their moral equivalents into the query letters. But of course the plots are mildly puerile in a good way, so you can't really blame the agents for hoping to sell the stuff as YA.
Meanwhile: exercise yes. Working in a start-up and then joining in selling the company-- sure. Kids -- must stop having them. "Snip. Snip" says the girl at the taco stand.
