Civil War has broken out in Iran and with attack on US assets in the Gulf, the US has deployed the Rapid Deployment Force to secure the Strait of Hormuz. This operation fall under the authority of CENTCOM.
During the opening phases the US has deployed the 82nd Airborne and the 1st Marine Division, supported by Rangers, Air and Naval Assets. 4 Battalions of the 82nd and 3 companies of Rangers was tasked with securing the Port of Bandar Abbas and Cheju Airfield along the southern coast. This would enable the establishment of a beach head and jumping off point for additional assets.
The images below show the second turn after the the above priority targets were secured. After establishing a beach head and repelling costal defense forces and a Regiment of Revolutionary Guards, the 1st Marines now reinforced with an additional Tank Company and Infantry Battalion, pushed to the East to secure key points and to cut off possible reinforcements coming from the North or East. As you can see below an entrenched Regiment of Revolutionary Guards supported by Artillery has blocked the road to try and delay the movement of forces.
They were successful after 2 attempts to push them back. Overhead 2 US FA-18s tangled with the 2 of Iranian F-14s and were able to score a kill and the remaining F-14 turned off.
In the North, a parachuted Battalion of the 82 was lost while it was trying to secure a bridge and was attacked by Iraining air support and militia units.
You can see the Iranians are hastily sending Mechanized Battalions of the Division A to try and stem the push East. More reinforcements have also shown up in the North while US Helicopters have now landed at Cheju Airfield.
Elements of the 82nd are pushing West to secure Key positions. The US must continue to push West and secure several Key cities while trying to hold the Bridge in the North and the road in the NorthWest to steam possible further reinforcements or delay them.

Now you're making we wish I had picked this up the other day...urgh... :)
At the end of round 4 it is apparent that because the US was bogged down moving East, it will be hard to continue to capture key objects past the US zone of control. I did dispatch a Battalion of the 82nd via helicopter insertion to help cut off the flow from the North, however the a good portion of mechanized infantry had already moved past the choke point. It is apparent that with a victory total of 22, the US was able to gain a marginal victory. The fact that the Iranians delaying tactics were effective enough to deny the US from pushing further East. I had one operational turn, however I feel the inevitable outcome will be as seen on the map.
The US also suffered from bad reenforcement rolls, and the Iranians had no problems there. A couple of low operational rolls also did not help.

It is, and bad. The cover art is not much better unfortunantly. I believe this game deserves a second edition as it found it to be very fun overall, but that map takes some getting use to for sure ???

That's pretty much the consensus in any of the reviews. Good game marred by a terrible map.
