If anyone is interested in joining a Fantasy Grounds campaign, leave a message here or PM me on Steam.
Right now it looks like we have 3 for a Friday evening late night campaign. Starting around 9-10 PM CST. The current campaign is going to play 5e D&D rules, but we are looking at mixing up a second campaign using Pathfinder over alternating weekends.
You'll need a full or ultimate client of Fantasy Grounds to join the game. I'll be DMing the initial campaign and only have the full client so I can only host one demo client.
Does Fantasy Grounds have an observer mode? I won't be able to play but would love to peek in on how it works.
Mike there isn't an "observer" option, but if everyone has a full/ultimate client you could use the demo client to join into the game and watch. There is no integrated voice chat, so the guys and I have just used the Steam voice chat which has worked out very well so far.
In! What are the parameters? Full classes and races? Or restrictions?
Well I should hope so since you and I are two of the three playing. O0
Yeah all classes and races from the PHB are available to play in the campaign.
So far my buddy rolled up two characters; a dwarf bard and a dragonborn paladin. Hopefully we can get four players otherwise we'll roll with what we have which will mean you each RP two characters.
Just PM me on steam and we can roll up your character(s).
I assume this means you'll be getting the client? :)
I would love to, but I am pretty sure timewise it won't work. :tickedoff:
Yeah I think 9 PM CST is 2 AM GMT so add another hour for 10 PM.
So how did the game go?
Haven't started yet. You in?
Crap, thought yesterday was Friday. :-(
I'd like to but no, appears you guys are planning on a Friday game and I work nights, Thursday through Mondays. My regular FG group runs on Wednesday nights, every other week now.
I think MD got lost last night.
Nah. Cable cut out. I'm ready for tonight though :)
I tried to kill MD tonight, but failed. :(
Got about four hours in tonight. Rolled up me character, a female Elf Druid named Silverfoot. Give you all the rest of the details later. It's late and I'm tired.

Not from lack of awesome dice rolls >:(
I was just knocking the rust off of the ol' dice after having not used them to DM a live game for a couple of decades. :P

How about less knocking and more missing?!
Our party was approached by a dwarf named Rockseeker at The Stag just outside Neverwinter. He offered each of us 10 GP to drive his wagon full of mining supplies down to Phandalin while he and his buddy Sildar Hallwinter rode ahead. We agreed and set off immediately.
The trip south was uneventful until we turned east once we hit the Triboar Trail. Not long after, we stopped the cart as there were two dead horses blocking the path. Adunkainon, our scout, noticed that the horses belonged to Rockseeker and Hallwinter. As we searched for the dwarf and his companion, two cowardly goblins came running out of the bush to the east, whilst two more fired at arrows at us from the north. One went wide while the other found the mark in Silverfoot the elf. Yolo, a dragonborn, confronted the charging goblins and frosted them both with his breath weapon, killing one and seriously injuring the other. Silverfoot retreated and healed herself and the party gathered to give chase to the two retreating goblins.
We moved north and east. After a time, we found a path moving northeast. An arrow came out of the trees on the north side of the path and Silverfoot and Yolo charged in the direction they came from, confronting one goblin while the other ran away. Again Silverfoot volunteered to play pincushion while Yolo and Adunkainon subdued the goblin. Upon interrogation, we learned that there was a cave complex further up the trail where 'the king' and his minions were. We got the information and took the goblin back to the wagon we abandoned and hid them both. Tying the goblin to a tree. We set off to find 'the king'.
Well you are squishy and insist on running head long into combat. Perhaps you should have been a barbarian instead of a druid?
I'm pretty sure I have a comparable AC to anyone at 17. Not my fault you continue to roll 20+ to hit me!

I'm interested in joining, and that time generally works out for me.
I used to have a regular twice-monthly tabletop group for about a year (5E D&D), but when that dissolved, I bought Fantasy Grounds hoping to find another regular game. But the holidays intervened, and I haven't looked at FG since that first day.
I'm usually the DM, but I prefer to be a PC, all things being equal. If you can use another player, let me know the next steps.
Make sure your client is registered and updated. You'll have to register in the Fantasy Grounds forums in order to register your game.

Done.
Yup we are looking for a 4th player and then eventually rotate through DM responsibilities just to give everyone a chance to play or DM if they want. I think our next session will be 1 April. Do to Easter weekend we won't be playing next Friday. We do voice through Steam, but I'm going to look at the FG TeamSpeak server. MD can hook you up with any other information if I don't see it here.
Sounds good. I'll have to look into Steam, but I have plenty of time before the next game. Should I be looking for a specific game on the FG Game Calendar?

Nope this just a homebrew group operating on the fringes of the Fantasy Grounds society. :)
The plan is a weekly/bi-weekly late Friday evening/night game running around 3ish hours or until one of the old men playing gets too tired to carry on any longer.
Steam isn't too bad just really need it for the voice client. It's free, works well, and it's easy to see if everyone is online.
Just a note on the party composition right now:
Dragonborn/Paladin
Dwarf/Bard
Elf/Druid
Human/Rogue
I'm pretty sure the Paladin will be the character that is dropped when you join, but just think about the class you want to play and we'll adjust from there.
Homebrew suits me just fine! I'm not that big a fan of the de facto setting in the Forgotten Realms, anyway. And I have a homebrew of my own when my turn to DM comes around.
Given that party composition I'll probably play a fighter, ranger, or barbarian (human or half-orc).
Or a halfling wizard. :)
Start the character at first level, presumably?
Yes 1st level. I like to play Gnome illusionists, Half-orc clerics, or monks myself.
The initial adventure is actually in FR because it's a prefab module. I selected to do it mostly to allow everyone the opportunity to familiarize themselves with FG and 5e rules. I'm slowly working on a homebrew campaign, but it's slow going with life priorities and the building of a module in FG just taking time to pull all of the piece together.
The Lost Mines of Phandelver (or somesuch)? I remember liking the cut of its jib when I read it in the Starter Set. Sounds good to me.
I'll get to work making a character on FG.
Yep, but I'm implementing some small changes just to switch it up a bit to keep those who've read/play it off guard. Plus it's allowed me to work on making maps and tokens to import into FG to use during the game. So far I've been happy with the results of the maps and it adds a nice tactical element to go along with the theater of the mind aspect that 5e has really went back to favoring after 3.5/4e.
That being said one of the guy's is a big Pathfinder player, so I suspect that in the future we'll play a little Pathfinder too. Which is fine with me because I like that game system as well.

I haven't used it yet but the FG TeamSpeak server should work really well. Lots of people are using it. For voice, the groups I was in, we always used Skype but you need to have a player initiate and host the call on their machine otherwise it can slow down the FG client if the GM is running both on his machine.
We are going to try the TeamSpeak server from FG. It's actually pretty nice in that they let you create a temporary room with password.
Are you still using Skype or have you gone text based for your Wednesday group?
We have gone text based only. I asked about voice for the group a while back but they all prefer text for now, even with the slower pace and only playing for 3 hours. We move along pretty good now, basically getting a bunch of intrigue done with a decent sized combat encounter thrown in.
Interesting. I cannot help but think playing by text alone would be significantly harder to DM.
It requires a lot of prep work using text boxes in story entries which is one of the reasons we only do biweekly.
Yeah that's what I mean plus I'd think it'd be harder to quickly come up with text to deal with player actions that are off the beaten ground laid out by the prepped encounters.
Even though not a single pun was made tonight, we did get teamspeak up and running, and even did a little gaming. Still have room for an adventurous soul or two.
Thank God on the puns!
So how goes the game? You guys still playing regularly?
Well we had some technical issues and I had some commitments that caused a late start, so other than trying to sort out some issues nothing in the first group. The second group, which started about 30-45 minutes later, generated some characters and we ended up digging into the rulebook to sort out some class ability stuff. No RPGing, but still fun BSing and learning some new rules.
I hope to reconcile the starting time for the two different groups and have a single group, but we'll see if that is manageable or not.
And this is 5e D&D right and not Pathfinder?
Yes. D&D 5e.
I'm somewhat interested, but I don't think I have the funds, currently, to join.
I'm pretty sure everyone playing either owns or rents the client right now. So if you or anyone else wanted to check it out, you could use the demo version.
I'll download the demo this weekend and check it out.
I don't want to commit to something if I'm not 100% into something. I hate flakes :crazy2:
Sounds good.
Did you guys every settle on a regular night?
We were trying Friday nights, but, RL intervened for the DM. And there's a time discrepancy we haven't quite worked out yet either.
I would have tried to join in but Friday is a work night for me. :-\
My regular Wednesday game fell through so I'm thinking about starting something up again, just not sure it'll be D&D. Think I played it to much over the last year and a half and burnt myself out on it.
