Title: Path To FRIDAY
Post by: Tosh on March 24, 2016, 07:20:37 PM

No long easter weekend for me, as I have to work on saturday.
Sunday / Monday I will meet with the rest of my family, so probably not much gaming time left.
But if I get the chance, I will continue my 1805 campaign in Victory & Glory.

Happy Easter to all of you.

Not really. It is Friday here  :P (00:43) and going by my post time and the original, that would be about 20+ minutes past midnight GMT.

Of course, I don't know where Tosh comes from...

But in the spirit of the Friday thread.....

Daughter is back from University for a week or two and we're nipping up to Scotland for an old army buddy's 50th so there won't be much gaming. What I do get will probably be some F1 2015 and The Division with a small injection of Combat Mission:Battle for Normandy

Enjoy everyone.

Back to XCOM 2 and Victory and Glory for me.  I'll probably take a look at the new MOO build, and perhaps get in some Gremlins, Inc.

Got a real live pencil & paper D&D game for Saturday night!  My son and daughter and some friends of all of ours.  Had a session of Civ IV mp with Barth and Tuna.  We've got Alexander on the run.  The problem is, Tuna sits on the top of the board with Pacal as his vassal and over a thousand point lead on the rest of us.  And Barthheart is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out in front in culture.  So.......not sure how to proceed, but, it's going to be a fight to the finish :)

Field of Glory mini league with Cyrano, Sauron, IanC, and Gianfranco Cimino. I'm (Spanish - Santa Hermandad Castile) currently playing Sauron (Medieval French), then either Cyrano (Highland Scots), or IanC (Swiss).

PzC - Sicily Race to Messina with Cyrano and Panzerde. I'm playing as British, Panzerde American, and Cyrano as the Axis.

SB:FWW Continuing our Gallipoli campaign with me as the Aussies, and Cyrano as Johnny Turk.

Continuing my CMBN SP campaign - The Road to Montebourg

Getting to grips with Victory and Glory: Napoleon and some writing.

That'll keep me busy, although the wife may have other plans and the dragon-in-law >:D has turned up for a few days.  ::)

One more reason why Vassal engine is the best wargaming software on the planet; you don't need admin privileges to install it on a computer at work  8)

I'm stuck at work until supper on Sunday but have setups to prepare for two ASL games next week. Hoping things are nice and quiet so I can spend all the time I want in VASL.

Good luck AR! I don't think I've ever been more close to death than after the half-marathon I ran in Philadelphia in 2014.

And "Dragon in law" as well as "circus roustaboutin'" HAR

Ahem. Anyway...civil war has put a few big dents into my northern European [mostly German] empire in Age of Charlemagne...as I neglected to fill governmental spots. I've rectified the situation but it will take several turns to rebuild my cities and hunt down the last of the traitors.

But I will :) Then it's on to take the British Isles for their rightful owner...me :)

More WitP:AE....made it the 12/29/41 turn. For lighter/filler fun....picked up the old school (but relatively new release) RPG Lords of Xulima. It's a mix of the old, original Sacred but with turn based combat of the newer Might and Magic X.

Anyone who hasn't been following along our respective AARs, this could be the decisive battle right now, here in mid-late August. Links to both threads are in my sig.

I'm working all weekend again but I've been getting a bunch of time in on Mordheim and really enjoying it.  I was doing quite well with my little band of Germanic mercenaries and had the warband up to rank 3.  I completed the first big story mission without a hitch as well as a bunch of side missions.  Then I ran into a squad of Sigmar chicks and got stomped down hard thanks to a combination of crappy dice rolls, overconfidence, and greed (the warp stones were so close and I needed money for training).  Lost two dead, the magic user took brain damage, the leader lost an eye and developed megalomania, and my bruiser suffered internal injuries making him more susceptible to wounding in the future.  I wasted a bunch of time waiting for everyone to heal up but then got in a few more decent missions before running into a rival band of squarehead mercenaries.  They delivered an even worse beating than the zealots had and I decided to pull the plug on that campaign.

I started up a new one playing as the rat people and it's going well so far.  They're quite weak in both offence and defence but they're fast.  I find that if I rush forward until I meet the enemy, then fall back into ambush positions then I can lure one or two enemy fighters into combat and quickly swarm them and beat them down.  I find that if I concentrate on knocking down their leaders first, I can usually force a morale test and win.  The fights are always nail-biters though because the rats are just so frail.  2-3 hits are about all any of them can take before they drop so I have to hope that I can pull them out of the fight before they get pummelled and then cycle someone else into their slot.  I think I'll be in serious trouble if I get a map that doesn't have a lot of room to swarm/run or the enemies start getting better armor.

There's been no gaming at all for me this weekend. Been a pretty event full weekend for me. I took Thursday and Friday off work so I could move into my new house. Got most of my stuff moved but still have a few minor things. Was on my way back to my apartment last night on what I was hoping would be my last run when I got into car accident.

Was driving down the road when an a**hole decided to pass me with a car coming at us. He barely got passed me and cut me off, I slammed my breaks and locked them. Missed going head first into a mailbox and drain ditch on my side of the road but when I turned the wheel left I spun 180 and went backwards into the ditch on the other side of the road. Bastard kept flying down the road. Luckily car coming at me stopped. Me and my car are a little banged up. Car might be fixable. ER doc last night said I was going to hurt today, be hurting worse tomorrow but should start feeling better after that.

All things considered it could have been much much worse.

Hope I can get the desktop back up the next few days and maybe get a little gaming in this week in between unpacking.

My weekend has been spent mostly on 4x space games. lots of stardrive2 and Polaris. Stardrive the simpler of the two regardless of having far more planet options. Even with the new DLC it's really a simple affair and you still reach the end of the tech tree before there's any real expansion. Polaris is a strange beast. At first I thought the GUI was Obtuse at best-but it makes sense to me now---what the game lacks GUI wise is feedback--I suppose they figured everyone would just let the planets go fully automation-because there's no screen that lists the planets like stardrive has were you can easy build and move population around-- and you can design ships to the whatnot but good luck figuring out how they actually perform in combat. You may play several hours before you even get into combat--I've expanded nearly into the third of the galaxy---on the highest star setting--and have only met 2 races that have done nothing to wage war- but I'm designing and building up fleets to be ready when they do. Not far enough to make any judgement calls on the game dispite having played 20 hrs.

Did some brief quests in Pillars of Eternity-I'm determined to finish the main so I can experience the expansions I bought. But the 4x games pull me away,

Kush not crushed = cushy cuss. Or something like that.  O0

A downburst nearly pushed Mom's car off the road in the rain coming back from Easter services last night; and did apparently push a couple of cars off about a mile in front of us. Lots of people had already stopped to help (with three police), and the people seemed all right as we rolled past. Both cars pretty much totaled; one of them apparently jumped back out of the ditch before diving back in again, leaving grass carved into grooves in the road! (From flipping would be my guess.)

Meanwhile, Easter eating and services tanked a lot of my gaming, as expected, but I did finish my short Regicide AAR (well, short by my standards), and I've gotten Soulstorm running again on my rig through Steam, preparatory to modding up with 40K Ultimate Apocalypse. And I've nearly finished Act I of Regicide's actual campaign. Bit of a 40K kick this weekend (somewhat ironically ;) ).

Hey Rayfer - when pressed for time or when I'm tired after work I auto-resolve. When I can think more clearly and have some more time to spend I play the battles out.

I also tend to play them out when the stats are more in my favor because I don't enjoy watching my troops get destroyed in real time :/

Also - battles that are more meaningful and have consequences to my overall campaign I always try to play out, no matter how tired I am.

So...it depends :)

Dammit it all to hell if this isn't the most difficult TW campaign I have played in a long time and I now see why...

Denmark is rated as 'Hard' difficulty when first starting out in the Age of Charlemagne campaign. That explains why civil war breaks out every few turns, every world power hates me and basically every negative effect feels twice as strong as it usually does...because it is. So now I have to make a choice...suffer through this campaign and attempt to get to the end even though I am not enjoying it or just rip the bandage right off and start a new campaign.

I am thinking of starting a new campaign as the Lombards...they are rated as 'Normal' which is much more my speed. I remember reading up on other previous Attila TW games and the difficulty levels in general were seen by players over at TWC as generally one level higher than they were marked in the grand campaign...so I don't feel as bad here in Age of Charlemagne :) I suppose I can restart the Danish campaign and lower the difficulty to 'Normal' but that may not be as fun as starting fresh.

I may also cleanse my palette for a bit and try out Pillars of Eternity for a few days, then come back to Age of Charlemagne. Hmm...

EDIT: I've also found an Age of Vikings complete game overhaul mod for Age of Charlemagne...it takes place 100 years later than the regular Danish campaign and is available in the Steam workshop for those interested. May try that...

That's a mighty love affair you have with that game, Gus!  As long as I've known you, it's been about that TW.  Awesome!  And you always make it sound like a game I want to be playing right at that very second!!!

Reading Gus's accounts of playing the various TW games is kind of like watching Charlie Brown trying to kick the football.

Who doesn't love the Danish?  :o  Sounds like they don't even like each other very much.

I have always loved me some TW, seems like forever, yes. It doesn't always love me back, as you can see.

Think I will start up a campaign in the Age of Vikings mod tonight, and make sure to set the damned difficulty to 'Norrmal'...then I'll have a better chance to kick the football.

FYI there is also a Byzantine 'Theme of Sicily' full campaign mod available for Age of Charlemagne too, for those interested. Will be trying that in the nesr future!

Thanks guys. Still in a good deal of pain.

On a lighter note I did get 99% of my stuff from my apartment moved and got Comcast set up. Getting Comcast transferred to my new place was the easiest part of the whole weekend. Only have the cable set up now since the PC and office are still not back together but I should have that set up with an online connection tonight.

Like JH said, it's unfortunate you didn't get his number, but the chances are things will catch up with him if it's the way he drives...the stupid git. >:(

I wish I would have as well. Things happened so fast all I could really tell the sheriff was it was a car and it was white.

have fun with Mordheim SDR - i got waylaid but will be back but thoroughly enjoyed the game

Still having lots of fun with it.  Now that I've completed the first big story mission, the difficulty is ramping up and my warband has suffered its first real injury.

Poor stumpy.....He could have used that leg.
