Most people didn't really care for the flambouency he brought but damn if that man couldn't shred on a guitar.
Heroes of the Storm if people are around, if not then any mix of the following:
SoaSE, SotS2, DW:U, PS. If the weather ends up total crap may even try some
WitP:AEAlso
Rocket league is having a free weekend on steam. I played an hour and it will be bought. Fun little game.
I really dug Prince Rogers Nelson's music and I am very sad to know of his passing. He will be missed.
There will be Civ IV and Dungeons & Dragons on the tabletop this weekend. Along with the premier of Season 6 of Game of Thrones Sunday night. Can't wait!
Genius song from a genius performer. O0 I'm about to watch Purple Rain as tribute.
Probably trying to get my damn airbrushing technique down so the damn thing doesn't block all the time.
I just bought American Truck Simulator, so I will probably take it out for a spin. I doubt there will be anything else.
Prince was far more influential in the industry than most people know. A rare talent and a true gift with all things musical. He did it all.
Undoubtedly another huge loss to the music world and another step closer to the end of an era.
Anyway, I've been playing some different games lately and finding myself playing random games I never planned to play. Like cortex command, aliens colonial marines, Kerbal space program, steel Panthers and some of the older combat mission games.
The latest update to ksp overhauled the training missions. I've run through a bunch of them and realize why I've had difficulty even getting into suborbital flight since versions that approached 1.0. The physics got really hardcore and you needed to factor in concepts such as center of mass, fuel load, engine type and propellant based on air density and atmosphere, etc. I learned that more rockets and more fuel is not the way to go. This all changes everything.
Long drive to Florida tomorrow so probably not much gaming this weekend. But I can catch up on Grogcasts. If I do find any gaming time it will most like be Polaris and/or Civ5. I also might check out the new 1.7 update to GalCiv3 and take a look at the new Star Ruler 2 expansion. And there was also an update to Sovereignty: Crown of Kings...
Sinking ships is my aim via World of Warships and then being chained to my old ass laptop for the next two weeks and thus unable to sink said ships.
CMANO, continuing to slowly get into NF8. End of the semester grading is kicking my butt!
Probably my favorite Prince song...even though it is dark and sad it clearly brings me back to a very happy childhood and always reminds me of summertime. Was Purple Rain released in the summer?
With the help of Anguille, Glen55 and a few others I am getting deeper into Grand Ages - Medieval...has the potential to be a great go to game that I can just chill with when I am not feeling bloodthirsty enough for a bout of Total War.
My fav Prince song as well...
I plan to play the following games mostly:
- Grand Ages Rome
- Oriental Empires
- Grand Ages Medieval
- Rome Total War
I'll try to squeze in some 4x game...not sure which one.
My ongoing Allies campaign in WitP:AE and the Road to Leningrad scenario in WitE.

You know, I'm really struggling to get into the latest TW games. I keep coming back to the feeling that the sweet spot, for me, was Medieval 2.
In consideration of everything, I think it's the province management that's holding me back from enjoying Rome 2 and Attila. What I always like about M2TW was that you could click the auto-management for your provinces and concentrate on fighting the wars.
Usual suspects fer me:
VASSAL module work
PBEM DC3 with Jason... missed last weekend because of coincidence of Honey Doo list and fantastic weather for the time of year.
Twilight Struggle with Jason. Trying not to lose too fast. :P
More Polaris Sector.
Civ MP of any kind if I can hook up with anyone not asleep.
Waiting impatiently for May 9 to arrive.... :D
Regarding playing games this weekend, I'm still playing good old CK2, which scratches my Total War itch when I'm not feeling bloodthirsty enough for a bout of Total War.
I'm also very seriously considering playing the 3 Days in 7 Hours mod for Scourge of War: Gettysburg. I've been reading a good book on Gettysburg and it has me in the mood to do some gaming. I haven't tried the mod yet, but my understanding is that it plays the three days in three consecutive segments, carrying over casualties from one day to another. I think you have to play it at Army command level, which is what has put me off trying it thus far...I am most definitely not ready for that responsibility yet.
I'll mix it up with some shooters, ARMA 3 KotH, Squad, etc.

Undercover, best Friday "what are we playing" thread title ever. Well done, sir.
Helluva artist. With all of his great songs, many of which are on my play list, "I Would Die 4 U" is what I'm listening to this morning.
Game wise, I'm firing up Polaris Sector this morning and planning on a Polaris Sector weekend.

Maybe some CMANO. Very sad about Prince! It must have been summery when Purple Rain came out because I remember running through a thunderstorm to get to the theater.
In other news, Panzer Battles Normandy is the Game of the Week! A beautiful game and really extraordinarily well-made. I've played scores of Normandy games and this one is by far the best. I got the 23rd Hussars going in the Beny Bocage scenario. They were first off the mark despite having a C-morale (versus A for 3RTR), but I think I'm going to have to adjust them to at least B.
CMFI PBEM.
CMSF with the Canadian campaign.
Continuing my season at Martinsville with Nascar 15.

Funny, but I'm considering playing some
Scourge of War: Gettysburg myself. I'm just finishing up reading "Gettysburg" by Stephen Sears. I really like his writing style. What book are you reading, Toonces?
I'm also trying to finish
Jagged Alliance 2 v1.13, but the AI is getting brutally efficient near the end.
After my bumbling abortive attempt at Dark Souls III (refunded... but I'm weak-willed and will prob. pick it up again on sale at some point), I decided to actually try to get into Witcher III. Not sure how far I'll actually get, since I am terrible at the combat, but even after only putting a few hours into this, man, I'm just overwhelmed by the game as an artistic achievement. It's almost unbelievable what CDProjektRed pulled off in creating this. I'm truly in awe.
Will probably continue my Kampfgruppe Peiper campaign in the excellent CM Final Blitzkrieg. Just finished the 3rd battle, crossing the bridge at Stavelot. Man, that is a brutal (and huge) scenario. But man do I love "take that bridge at all costs!" missions -- so much fun. And close-quarters street fighting in CM is always a huge rush for me. A frustrating meat-grinder in many ways, but gritty and intense!

Hey PE, what mods are you running for Xenonauts?
I liked Prince's music too though the man was a little harder to get excited about. But a whole lot of young ladies got excited about him back in the day and that was a very good thing. The games I play now are of a different sort, less exciting but much safer. With that said, I will be playing Pillars of Eternity to take a break from Civil War II which itself was a break from CMBN. The weekend demands it's own time and a lighter atmosphere plus I can play Pillars after a couple of drinks and not lose a whole war in one sitting. Have a great weekend Grogs.

Lets see:
Flashpoint Campaigns: RS
Arma 3
GG: War in the East
I got Kerbal Space Program with a nice discount, but I feel lazy to learn it right now.

Ooh...this is on my wishlist. How is it?
I've played this one before it was released on Steam and just picked up the Steam version. It is one of the best survivor games I have played. It is hard though, and does not hold your hand..... I've enjoyed it and have kept coming back to.

Anyone plan on picking up BattleFleet Gothic: Armada?
I'm torn on this one. On the one hand, I *hate* (can't emphasize that enough) the entire Warhammer cosmos. On the other hand.... huge capital ships trading broadsides with eachother. Huge customizable ships. (And are they really any more ridiculous than some of the SOTS alien vessels that I'm more than content enough to play against? Hmmm...)
Since I just purchased Order of Battle: Pacific (http://www.matrixgames.com/products/516/details/Order.of.Battle:.Pacific) and Order of Battle: Morning Sun (http://www.matrixgames.com/store/594/Order.of.Battle.-.Morning.Sun) this morning, that's what I will be playing this weekend.
To break monotony, I will also be playing another game I picked up recently, Train Valley (http://store.steampowered.com/app/353640/). This one surprised me because I didn't expect I'd like it. But I was so pleased with it that I purchased both it and its DLC after playing around with its free demo for awhile.

I played
World Of Warships with a couple old forum buddies last night. For about three hours.
We were on a murderous rampage for most of it. Slumming it up in Tier 5 destroyers mostly (and one in the occasional cruiser). Were regularly getting six or seven kills a match for our group. Was on a roll the first couple hours, but bailed after getting overconfident and overly aggressive near the end. :buck2:
Still waffling about which grand strategy single-player one I want to stick with. I've been starting up campaigns in about five different titles. :idiot2:

Toonces I used to feel that M2TW was my high point with the TW series until Shogun 2. Then I thought that was my high point until Attila and then Age of Charlemagne. I actually enjoy managing the provinces in the new system and of course tweaking/modding the management systems.

What book are you reading, Toonces?
It's called,
The Gettysburg Campaign: A Study in Command by Coddington.
http://www.amazon.com/Gettysburg-Campaign-Study-Command/dp/0684845695/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1461361596&sr=1-1&keywords=gettysburg+a+study+in+command
It focuses more on the command decisions of the various generals, why they did what they did and a critique of their decision making during the campaign. It's pretty good. Not a good first read on Gettysburg, but if you're read Sears then you should be able to follow it.
In honor of the Title of the Subject Thread and the departed Prince, I'll chime in here! This weekend is probably a little Gems of War or Defender's Quest with my son before his bed time, and then after he goes to bed I'll be dusting off X-COM: Enemy Unknown. I'd put that latter title down and never gone back to it a few years ago, but after cranking up the difficulty in a new campaign, I'm enjoying it much more!
Of course, that assumes I'm able to finish off Making a Murderer. It's only got 10 episodes, but I've covered 7 of them since last Monday. That is a crazy intense documentary. Of course, after I finish it, I'll need to do some more research online to determine if it's accurate or not. But dang, it sure makes me not want to commit any crimes in any small town in America...
I was looking through my extensive library and decided to try a game I've owned for quite a while but have never really tried: Europa Universalis: Rome Vae Victus.
If you thought CK2 was hard, you know nothing, Jon Snow. I don't think I have hardly a clue what's going on, although I'm slowly figuring it out. I started a game at the beginning of the 1st Punic War and it has just been a bloodbath. Somehow I put a disloyal commander in charge of my main body of troops and after a few years, just when I was making some progress against Carthage he revolted and I was suddenly fighting a war on two fronts: Carthage and the Roman Rebels. This went on for quite a while, maybe 5 years of game time and 2 hours of real time? Essentially my Roman faction had lost and I was waiting for the game to end when suddenly Rome was reunited?! I start clicking around trying to figure out what happened and it appears the rebels won and established a dictatorship. Interesting. So now I'm still playing, but I have a totally new government.
I'm still wrapping my head around how the game works. I'm used to CK2, which is a dynasty simulator, whereas EU is more of a country simulator, so who I am, exactly, within the game has been confusing.
Regardless, there is an awful lot going on, and the diplomacy both between nations and within the inner-Roman factions is crazy. It's quite a ride.
Heh. So there's a tutorial. It's right there on the start menu. Might have been a good idea to start with that I suppose... ::)

I would really enjoy
Attila, primarily due to all the good interface improvements and better iteration of their attempt at CK2-style faction politics, which wasn't very well done in
Rome 2.
Yet I still fume about at least two design decisions they made for
Attila that make no sense. Other than being quick & clumsy band-aids to "balance" faction types, or force the player into using the same army building restriction they imposed for the AI due to make up for it's incompetence. Shamefur Dispray!
There are mods to mitigate at least one of those things, of course. But they affect multiple other facets of how the game plays, so creates other issues in doing so. :-\
I'll just STFU and attempt a vanilla campaign again sometime, and make myself enjoy the rest. Hopefully I can keep from raging when I'm restricted to only building the most advanced (and expensive) units, or gaining extra Imperium penalties (Diplomacy, Corruption, Etc) for simply researching new techs.
We were literally told, by a CA rep in the forum, that if we didn't want the extra Imp Penalties, then just don't do any research. WTFF?! :knuppel2:
I wouldn't bitch about
Attila as much if the rest of the game was mediocre. But they had many great changes & I still want to love it. :tickedoff:

My standing recommendation still stands after full release: if you can't stand 40K, you should stay away in proportion to how much you can't stand it. It's a
very 40K game. There are plenty of other great games to play (and to support by buying), than to be gritting your teeth all the time in order to play another technically great game.
Big write up at RPS - possibly one o the best tactical RTS games out there
Been a frustrating weekend on the gaming front.
I reinstalled WoWS earlier last week. More I play it the more I remember why I stopped. I love the premise of the game but I really just don't have the temperament to keep dealing with constantly losing every match. Problem with online gaming is having to deal with other people, 99.9% of them being idiots. Until Friday night I had two wins outta 10-12 matches. About half of the losses were my team kills two enemy ships, and they steam roller us. Had a couple of good games Friday night in my new Penscola, but yesterday and a couple of matches this morning where back to the losing streak.
Played a couple of games of Twilight Struggle. Two as the US and one as the USSR. Gotten stomped by the AI on easy in turn 4-5 of all of them. Fun game but the mechanics are not really grabbing me.
CMANO and EUIV, with maybe some KSP or Elite are on my list for today. Sovereignty Crown of Kings was on the list, but after restarting my Let's Play series once just to have a new patch released the next day, I'm going to hold off to make sure no other bug fixes get released this week.

I'm okay with the Warhammer-ness.
It's the RTS clickery that makes me hesitate, along with the knowledge that content will probably be parceled out in multiple DLCs. Still have such a backlog that I may as well wait until a package sale shows up later. Oh, and I'll likely end up getting Stellaris and TW Warhammer in the coming month anyway.
