Reviews are very good if this is your type of game. It's not mine but most say it's a true DOOM game unlike DOOM 3. Voice acting very good, lots of action, etc
A somewhat lukewarm Initial Impressions from Rock/Paper/Shotgun. They do stress it is initial impressions only and not a full end-game review.https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2016/05/13/doom-pc-review/
I am a tad curious but it is too pricey for me right now. Never having played any of the originals (other than watching over buddies' shoulders in high school) I would probably enjoy this new one. But there are a ton of other titles coming out soon that I am more interested in.
I watched some videos, it certainly seems more doom like then the big pile of crap that was doom3. Still wont be getting it until it gets a big sale. I did see it for $38 at cdkeys i believe, but still since i probably wont do much multiplayer i'll wait until it hits a 75% sale.
I watched 14 minutes of this and if I'm totally honest, I found out way before the 14th minute that is wasn't for me.
**sorry - had forgotten to include the link to the video I watched**
It doesn't look graphically as good as I thought it might. The blur in movement is diabolical. The "you can jump here but not here" mechanic is going to really infuriate after a while.
The commentator made me laugh with the statement "The Glory kills are pretty great...a little bit repetitive...but they're pretty sweet". Mate - if they are repetitive in 14 minutes, wtf do you think they'll be like in 2 hours? :2funny:
I seem to be one of the few that actually like the last Doom game (Doom 3?) - though I admit it had a few issues and I dropped it like a hot brick when I got off Mars and into hell. The original was just legendary and gave me huge amounts of gameply both single player and LAN play.
No coop campaign...no thanks.
I played the free weekend with some friends. Its not my kind of game, but with beer and my buddies it was a good time. But that isn't saying much because...with beer and buddies almost anything is fun.
I'm in once it hits a sale.
I watched this
and I was so surprised I remembered some of those levels. It was a superb game back in the day (couldn't play it now though)

If someone mods the stages from the original into the new Doom, I'm pretty much buying it that day.
Duke Nukem was always so much better. ;)
Just saw the commercial during the Stanley Cup playoffs. "Best shooter of the year," Rock, Paper, Shotgun.
When I was on Kinguin buying Hearts of Iron IV yesterday I saw this at £28. I was sorely tempted because, regardless of what I think about what I've seen, it seems to be getting some stellar right ups. So I was thinking maybe it could be fun from a purely visceral perspective...you know, a fire up, blow shite up and exit, drained of energy...
Where the hell is Jarhead. He MUST have it by now? :2funny:
I really liked Doom 3, it was dark and full of tension, had campaign coop...this new Doom might be closer to the originals, but to me it looks totally uninteresting with the color coding of the enemies, perks, constant melee animations, too bright areas and constant rushing.
original DOOM was a true historic event, a ground breaker at its time ...and i loved it to death O0
but its impossible for me to get all the innovation-steps that happend FPS-gameplay wise or 3D-worlds-to-explore wise in the decades since original DOOM out of my head.
I will not buy it. It has the nostalgia factor for sure, but i know i will simply not enjoy it.
Maybe its like today refunding (probaly a kickstart) Fokker and building a Fokker Dr I Triplane again but with our 21st century latest technology, composite materials and a digital displays cockpit, maybe even give it a HUD and even experimental mini 'rail guns' instead of the 2 MGs 08 .... and sell it as a true-meant military plane for asymmetric warfare small conflicts or borderpatrol, smugglerhunting n'such.
It would be nice seeing a Dr I rolling down the runway in its all-red Richthofen paint job once again, ... but it just cant make a Phantom F4, a Warthog A10, a F16, or a F35 (not to speak about various choppers also) unseen.
I like your analogy Mike. It might be a shinier, faster and better built triplane than ever before but ultimately it's still a triplane. Feel that way about a lot of games these days but particularly about FPS games. Though hmm, now I got a hankering for triplanes in Battlefield 1! :)
I played a bit.
Definitely closer to DooM/DooM2 than the 2004 thing was.
Has some elements I don't like from modern shooters, e.g. different damage on enemy depending on hit height. Console crap user interface.
Well i'm sure i'll be picking this up at some point, maybe a 75% sale during the holidays. It did get me in the mood for some doom game play. I'll load up Doom2 and and some mods and away ill go, so i did ;) and went to see what the community had come up with this time. Last time i played brutal doom with new monsters, weapons, ect. ect. this time it appears someone has gone beyond brutal doom, which was awesome, and added a bunch of new stuff. There's pretty much an option for anything, pick your weapons, monsters, what the monsters have for weapons, there's pretty much a setting for everything, spawn everything your way There's a new game play setting for dynamic progression. New monsters, 3 different levels of the stock monsters and more weapons then you can shake a stick at, there's just to much to list. This thing is fu**ing awesome and with all the quality map packs out there you have a neverending doomgasim. Not to mention you can add other mods to this huge mod. Not all that hard to get up and running either, just have to have a doom game[recommend doom2 engine, more map packs available], source port and i found a neat mod manager to swap mods in and out of or pick any map you want to play. The new package is called Brutal Doom: Project Brutality and from the menu you can play project brutality or brutal doom or stock doom2, have it your way. It seems with doom you can go home again. Here's a vid of a doom 2 level called " The Inmost Dens" along with project brutality i have an ambience mod, texture mod and a HUD mod running.
just found this, someone did up a card for all the maps from Doom1 and Doom 2 and other map packs. Here's the level above on the card. Its a bit of a cheat but hey if you get stuck.
