Title: Surge Protector
Post by: Sir Slash on May 18, 2016, 09:41:14 AM
It's almost summer here in Fla. and that means.... lightning. Lots of it. So any recommendations on getting a new Surge Protector or are they all pretty much the same?

I have been using these recently:

http://www.amazon.com/CyberPower-CP1000AVRLCD-Intelligent-1000VA-Mini-Tower/dp/B000QZ3UG0

The only gripe I have is a slight lag sometimes but I have a lot on it. The reviews have remained consistent, the price is good and I just went through another storm without powering down.

If you run a laptop it should do a great job (the extra battery on board dealing with any lag). I'm using it with a desk top.

If you run a mission critical set up I would add a poor man's UPS to it.

I've got the Cyberpower 1350AVR UPS that I picked up at Costco a couple years back to replace an APC 650(?) unit.  I believe it was around $90 (at Costco) and has performed great for me so far. Has kept my aging desktop up and running through storms/power outages/brown outs etc.
