On Saturday afternoon we are off to see the WoW movie. There will be 15 of us, either current or (like me) ex members of the Guild run by my missus, with some folks travelling from both ends of the UK for the weekend.
We'll try and behave ourselves.

Perhaps Chinese moviegoers are less averse to awkward looking CGI movies with cheesy child-oriented cartoon writing.
Especially if it's a video game that's been so popular in China that the developers created an expansion featuring friggin' Panda-people (something else the Chinese can't get enough of).

My point is that this movie obviously targeted a specific audience. Not so much the Western Adults, as evidence in the articles. No surprises, really.
Legendary Entertainment is owned by Wanda Dalian, a Chinese company. They also own theme parks and movie chains, in China, Australia, and the U.S.
