But it does happen in the West.
A big reason why a lot of the big corporations want the UK to stay in the EU is certainty of markets and profits coming first. Never mind that democracy is tenuous at best in the EU itself. But hey, it's a big market, so don't muddy the waters with wanting to have a say in the laws you live by.
