From Forbes:
It's official: Steam's big summer sale starts next week on June 23rd and runs until July 4th, giving us all ample time to blow a giant amount of money on a deep stack of cheap games that are just going to sort of sit in our libraries, taunting us. It's all in good fun. The confirmation comes in the form of an official tweet from Paypal UK:
"It's official: the @Steam_games sale starts 23rd June."
got a couple steam wallet codes today cause HoI4 and Stellaris are gonna be 50% off during the Steam Summer Sale...right? >:D ...but probably gonna have to use the codes on stuff in my wishlist. :crazy2:
I need to avoid this like the plague...... over half the games i buy i never ruddy play.....
You'll succumb just like the rest of us! ;)
I have 27 games on my wishlist, lets see how far this gonna shrink this summer.

Well, that's going to make it easy for me to avoid temptation.
Just got into Steam. Most of my wishlist is on sale. :o :D
It takes a while before all the deals are rolled out.....
PE
Hmm...it's not too bad. There's a handful of games on my wishlist that currently cost next to nothing so I'll grab a few. HoI4 has no discount of course, so no temptation there while I'm still playing Stellaris. The only "big" expense I may have is to buy two copies of Wurm Unlimited (-50%) because my daughter wants to play on a local server with me.
Can't see myself spending more than £30 which is what HoI4 would have cost on its own anyway. Cool.
Now I'm getting the "Sign into your account" thing even though I'm signed in already. ::)
[/whine on :(]
After a quick look, not too impressed (so far). The sale prices are not quite as good as I'd hoped. As an example, Bounty Train was 50% just before the sale started and now its only 40% off. And, ya, I know its new-ish, but Stellaris is only 10% off. May have to wonder over to GMG and use that JUNE25 code real soon...
[/whine off]
So since they are showing Daily Deals, I'm guessing Steam abandoned the format they used last time, where the sale price was the same the duration of the sale. Didn't see the "Highlighted Deals" in my real quick looky-see...
Can see myself maybe caving and picking up one or both "Offworld Trading Co." and/or "Pike and Shot Campaigns" at $20 a pop. Not quite at my "all resistance crumbles" "$14.99 threshold, but 50% off ain't bad.
Other than that, not a lot here tempts me.
Steaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmmmmmmm isssssssssssssss soooooooooooooooooooooooooo sssssslllllllllllllllooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.......
EDIT: Only when it's actually working that is :P
From the little I managed to glean, it seems the sales kinda suck.
Most of the discounts are actually lower than last time.
Including the ones for the daily highlights.
What a shame.
OMG most Slithrine games are 50% off.... too much to spend, so many games to play... not enough free time.

Yeah, I've got a few of those on my Wishlist. Nothing bought yet. Yet....
Not a whole lot of interest to me either. Space engineers dirt cheap is one. Annoyed with the Skyrim dlc being so high.
Might grab some smaller indie titles but overall I think my wallet is relatively safe thanks to Paradox
Can't see anything that jumps out as a must-have yet. Any recommendations? Thanks.
i'll grab some DLC on sale for games i havent put much time into :uglystupid2: like Space Hulk Ascension, Endless Legend. Not sure what or if anything else, there's a couple off beat titles im looking at.
Having hard time purchasing stuff.
OK, here's my damage (and I'm not planning to spend any more in this sale...):
Midnight - cute little puzzle thing I just discovered
Kitten Rampage - The Boy wants to play it; probably saw some Youtuber having fun with it
Sheltered - I liked This War of Mine and this looks pretty good too
Wurm Unlimited - for my daughter and I to play
Saints Row 4 - I don't like this as much as the third game in the series but for £2.74 I'd be daft not to
Let's see how the download servers do!

Pillars of Eternity White March I & II

Yeah...I still play it occasionally. really it's the first about 5 hours of a new session that are really gripping...and with a random map generator (I believe) it makes a new start up possibly challenging. Only issue is once you hit that equilibrium point it's easy and boring IMHO. Fun game though until you hit that point and there are always disasters.

I remember you saying a lot of good things about it.
need opinions on these, looking to pick up just one. Divinity Original Sin Enhanced edtion, Mordheim, Pillars of Eternity, there all on sale.
They're all good choices.
Mordheim. Lots of fun. Tactical battles are always a tense affair. Quite a bit of depth to it. Balancing your budgetary needs versus the health of your warband always feels like you're dancing on a knife edge, but in a good way. I'm not sure, but it feels like they improved the AI in the latest update (I could just be playing like crap though). The enemy bands seem to be fighting a smarter battle than previously. It's got a couple of downsides. First, the tutorials don't really explain many concepts well enough and I had to figure out a lot of stuff via trial and error. Second, it's perma-death so if the idea of getting several days worth of play into a campaign only to lose your band doesn't sit well, you might want to avoid this one. Third, there are certain story-missions that you'll have to complete in order to progress. They can be very tough as the enemies re-spawn and if you don't know what you're doing the first time through, you'll suffer for it.
Pillars of Eternity. If you liked Baldur's Gate, Temple of Elemental Evil, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, etc, then you should like this one. Tonnes of content and some interesting characters. It can be a bit frustrating in the beginning if you make a certain class of character only to discover that the first NPC party members you meet are the same class as you. XP can be a bit weird as well. Rather than being able to grind by killing, you gain XP from discovering traits about each monster type you fight and jotting it down in your notes. Once you've filled in all the data on a monster, you won't gain any more xp from combat with them. I ran into a few choke points in the game where my party wasn't strong enough to continue the storyline but I didn't have any way to go back and gain more xp from previous sections. (lots of save/reload spamming to force my way through an encounter).
Divinity: Original Sin. Some really cool, very in-depth quests (the murder mystery in the first city really stands out) and some cool combat mechanics. Drawbacks for me were as follows. First, because it's an unfamiliar system, it's possible that you'll end up dumping your skill points into unprofitable skills and you might find yourself bogged down 10-15 hours in and have to restart. Second, the game's sense of humour. This is subjective of course but I found most of the jokes more irritating than funny. Third, remapping keys to the numberpad is still bugged and they still refuse to fix it.

Thank you sir for the rundown, giving me a bit to think about, also considering Grim Dawn buts it only 25% off. I really liked dragon age origins which would you say is like that.
Mordheim's more of a turn-based tactical combat game than an RPG. As for Divinity or PoE, I don't know that I'd rank one over the other when it comes to being similar to Dragon Age. They've both got pausable real-time combat, party management, deep storylines, and lots of character customization.

FYI divinity is TB not pausible RT. It is RT outside of combat
I probably get one of AGEOD games, recommendation on those please (specially their performance):
Civil War 2
Revolution Under Siege
Pride of Nations
Alea Jacta Est
I'm pretty sure you can (still) eliminate PRON if performance is an issue. :P ::) It's by far the most ambitious game on the list.

Thanks SDR & jamus34 i'm gonna go with Divinity, although i dont mind pausable real time i prefer turn based and also Pillars looks like a lot more reading than Divinity. Do prices change during this sale? last year didnt the prices just stay the same the whole sale? I'm strangely reluctant to pull the trigger on anything, i've added to my wishlist but not bought anything yet. I'm sure buying the first one will be like pulling my finger out of the dike.
I'm wondering if now is a good time to pull the trigger on CKII. It looks like the base game with all of the expansions, along with the EUIV Converter, would be $55.17. The expansions I have listed are;
Conclave
Horse Lords
Sword of Islam
Way of Life
Rajas of India
Sons of Abraham
The Old Gods
The Republic
Is the correct. The countries that I'm most interested in playing as are England and Poland. If I leave out any of the above, will it make much difference to the overall game play.
Budd - I dont think you'd go wrong with either game. Note that both games (Divinity and PoE) are pretty text intensive. You need to really read to get clues from what I know as i have not gone that far into each game. Tactically divinity is better combat wise, while I think PoE builds a better world with more intriguing characters. I mean the first map after the intro you can be introduced to a fairly tough moral question if you choose.

To be honest, I had many crashes and ugly stuff in the To End All Wars, but with Thirty Years War I didnt encounter any technical issues so far after 6 hours play and the turns are quick enough, also I am enjoying it tremendously.
Hope the other games I will get in are the same after the said patch.

I still prefer Alea Jacta Est (and especially it's expansions) over the others. For performance, ease of use, and subject.
I've enjoyed the others in short bits, but AJE has been the one I return to most often. It's also the most straightforward of the bunch IMO.

I probably get one of AGEOD games, recommendation on those please (specially their performance):
Civil War 2
Revolution Under Siege
Pride of Nations
Alea Jacta Est

Thanks, I am going to get it for sure, any recommendation on which DLC I should get?

Get the DLC which covers the war(s) you are most interested in.
I liked
Birth Of Rome, early on, because it has smaller scenarios featuring more troop variety on each side. Set in the early Republic so it's Romans vs neighboring Italic tribes up to and including the first Punic War (over Sicily). So, at the same time, it's pretty much limited to the Italian peninsula and a bit of North Africa which is a drawback if you want a large conflict covering a wide map area.
Picked up
Hannibal Terror Of Rome last year, but have still have some of the original AJE & BOR scenarios to play. But this is the one featuring the Second Punic War. So it's a must-have at some point.
The base AJE game covers Roman Civil Wars. While there are some minor non-Roman powers in some of them, the main fighting will be between two different Roman factions.
Since I've not done much Hannibal yet, I've not even picked up Parthian Wars. That was one of the few things I'm thinking on picking up during this sale, though.
In the end, I think your interest in the specific wars or Roman era should be the deciding factor for the DLC. I've always been more interested in the Republic era, notably the early part up to & through the Punic Wars, but others seem to prefer the Roman Civil War stuff (which comes with the base game anyway).
The good thing is that the AJE system is one of the easiest AGE games to learn. It's more akin to the old Birth of America/Wars In America series because you don't need to do extra army organization which can be confusing for beginners when mixed with the UI usage. But it also has some of the grand strategy decisions and troop production of the newer AGE games (since PON) without the turn processing getting bogged down. Your forces are often concentrated in very few armies in most scenarios, so it doesn't fall to the AGE system's weakness (attempting to portray some semblance of a "front line" across long swaths of territory).

Thanks a ton, that was very helpful, I already played some AGEOD games such as TEAW and TYW, so I think this one will be easy to get into for me.
I guess I will get Birth of Rome and the Parthian Wars for now.
I also have had my eye on AJE for some time now cause I love the period. The graphics look older so I wasn't too sure how the game played and if it had been updated at all. Sounds like a sure thing to me now.

It's based on the AGE versions from around ROP & RUS. Well... more like an off-shoot from. Came out before Civil War 2's slight change of UI, but it still has the newer features such as special events, building/decisions, and troop mustering. With modifications, under the hood, to portray the Roman period of course.
