Sometimes being British is a very, very big headache.
I see all these great games - Old School Tactical, Old School Tactical 2, GMT MBT - and it's a total arse ache to get them in the UK!!
I know sometimes you can KS them, but it's the postage costs that put me off. So I want to buy them in the UK - but I'll be damned if I can find a half decent supplier of boardgames - particularly of the ones mentioned.
Bawb - or anyone - any ideas of good board game suppliers in the UK?
I know of
Board Game Extras and Board Game Guru as two that at least advertise some games that I would be interested in
I'm in total agreement with you. Games Guru is pretty good and tends to be the cheapest, while Second Chance Games has a good range of both new and used items, but can be quite expensive.
Cool...thanks Bob. Bookmarked
Mostly minis wargames, from what I can tell, but this lady on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwD88mRKBWDQnZ1PQqVQ0iA) said she gets some various game stuff here:
http://www.waylandgames.co.uk/
Looks like lots of minis, board games, etc at that shop. But she's done vids with serious hex & counter wargames too (found the channel when spying some GBoH a couple years ago, plus a little DVG & others), so maybe she knows some other shops in the UK?
Was responsive in the YT comments and mentioned that place when I asked about what brand of huge gaming mat w/ grassland motif she was using in one.
Thanks Nef. I'll have a look at her videos
I've seen that site come up before, but I couldn't see anything along the vein of Combat Commander/Band of Brothers/Conflict of Heroes....that style and play mechanism...though I know they are all different in their own way, I still like each of them.
I've bookmarked the site anyway. My daughter might like me to get Memoir '44 as she did actually quite like that one (but she's 15 now!!)
Aye, I know that one. JD, also add Orcs Nest and Games Lore to your list. I've had really good service in the past from Games Lore and prices are very competitive.
Thanks bob. Also - why are their websites so 1990's? ;D
Its the UK mate - behind the times, as usual.
I've considered, more than halfway seriously, to load up a suitcase with stuff and make a trip to bring you deprived Britishers some games!
Games Lore carries ASL ;) https://www.gameslore.com/acatalog/Games_ASL_105.html (https://www.gameslore.com/acatalog/Games_ASL_105.html)
I have a room ready for you Doug.
Alternatively, all you poor Limey bastards could just come to Origins next year and go home with a suitcase full of games each

Didn't you already spend some time there for Old Blighty a while back? Aren't you a bit old now for battle dress?
I'm having the opposite problem. I want to get some miniatures from Wargames Foundry but can't find them anywhere in N. America. Shipping costs from the UK are ridiculous.

Yeah.. seems like many of the minis manufacturers, who have something I want, are in the UK. I can often find a smattering of their stock list at Noble Knight, but they're often out of some I wanted. Plus they tend to be MSRP.
Well if you, or anyone, has a line on two packs of Jolly Monks from wargamesfoundry, please let me know. (or if anyone in the UK wants to grab them and ship them here, I can reciprocate with something from N. America)

A bit older and a bit fatter - this one is purely holiday.

mmmmm :'(
Think most of the places have already been listed that I use. Apart from maybe iguk.co.uk who get board wargames in usually.
Part of the problem is the distribution here. There is one distributer for boardgames (Esdevium games) and pretty much all the shops here stock from them. Anything that Esdevium don't pick up doesn't make it onto the shelves online or otherwise. Stuff from GMT seems pretty regular and you'll generally find it between gameslore, guru and iguk. Other publishers are less regular, I've found lock 'n load stuff increasingly hard to find and Esdevium seems to only get them sporadically.
If you go to Esdevium's website http://www.esdeviumgames.com/ and scroll to the bottom, they publish a PDF of new releases each friday. This will tell you what will be available at the online boardgame retailers the following week. They usually list wargames in it's own category so good for checking when stuff is coming up.
Legion wargames are worth a look too, since they post to someone in the UK who sends them out locally. You can even preorder from them and not be hit with customs charges. http://legionwargames.com/
I just received a game from Compass Games - a gift from a good friend - and I had to pay the post office £19.38 for the privilege of collecting it. This was £8 international handling fee plus £11.38 VAT.
No doubt when my BoB KS games eventually arrive, I'll be hit again.
You Kickstartered yourself?
There is clearly money to be made smuggling games into the UK.
...in a container I would think.

I, like many others, backed the BoB KS over a year ago - my copies are somewhere betwixt Worthington and me (I hope).

That VAT you Brits pay is just fookeen ridiculous.
No wonder you guys complain about the shipping costs all the time. You're getting squeezed by someone in the gov't.
We have none of that crap, here in the States. Some of the porkiticians made ramblings of it, a few years ago, but adding an extra tax to shipped goods obviously didn't go over well with the peons whom they intended to extract money from.
And, as we all know, once a new tax is instated, it never goes away. It only goes up.
