'The Ultimate Battle: Okinawa 1945--The Last Epic Struggle of World War II' by Bill Sloan is worth a read as well.

...not only beans, bullets and oil - the book has some on ice cream, butter and 8000 cases of 'missing' beer, too!
reads like one of these spreadsheet aar's of witp-ae = really enlightening stuff!
