Looks like information will be released this Thursday on new features.....BETA should start soon since game due out on 11/4. Made mention of this in the Hockey thread, but did not want to go too much off topic there...

If anyone is aware of a good strategy guide out there on how a person can truly understand this game (i.e. loan system, formations, tactics, etc.), would appreciate pointing me in the right direction...
I've been playing this game for about 16 years now and each version has some sneaky surprises that the previous version didn't have. I don't know if there is any one strategy guide that would be relevant to all or even most versions. I will list some of the better sites that may answer some questions.
For the record, I've never come close to mastering this game. There are guys who figure it out almost immediately and complain that the game is broken or too easy. I've never been in that camp. Being an American and having only the most basic understanding of soccer (football :-\) keeps each edition very challenging.

Some of these should help.
Thanks for all the info...I'll check them out....I am not necessarily looking for strategy to beat the game, but just understand the concepts....I have no idea what type of tactics/formations I should use based on the personnel on my team...have very little knowledge on how loans and sharing players work. Stuff like that I am trying to grasp just so I understand why I would do things within the game.
I totally understand where you're coming from. There's guys that can look at a team and slap together a tactic that will shovel in goals. When I try I usually end up getting spanked all around the pitch. Some of those sites have guides to understanding what each attribute does and how it effects each position. The game itself has gotten a lot better by providing mouseovers that have pretty clear explanations.
I hope that helps a little.
Thanks and I'll take any information I can get...I also found this site that I am looking over at the moment....

I don't see a mention of a better representation of the game. I found the current one pretty poor. Especially with what's out there for Football Manager
oops - wrong thread :idiot2:
This will be the first year I haven't pre-ordered/first day bought since the very first Championship Manager many moons ago. Although I enjoyed FM2016 I think recent iterations have gone too far away from football and down the relationships route and it has now way too much effect on the game.
Yes teams get unhappy players but no where near as many as the game gives you now :( Will wait for a sale.

same here.
i wonder if someone will rather concentrate his scripting skills towards an 'ELIZA - Computer Therapy Tool for FM' instead of a better scouting helper?! :D
beers!

This is why i stopped - admittedly earlier than you in 12 but compared to the pure football joy of CM and the early FMs it became too HR Manager 2015 for me, I liked the asides for the contract negotiations but I wanted to be a coach, pick my teams, bring in unknowns and raise them to gods, not do half time talks, touch line talks and worry about morale
Isn't the "touch" version of the game meant for the more simplistic play through where you have less to worry about and more focus on the coaching aspect? When I read the description that is what it sounds like but I haven't played that mode myself.
Description...
FOOTBALL MANAGER TOUCH 2016
Designed for managers who prefer a more streamlined, faster-paced experience, Football Manager Touch 2016 focuses on the core managerial duties while still delivering an ultra-realistic matchday through the 3D match engine.

Just curious what you meant by representation, the graphics? The user interface?

Sorry - I posted this in the wrong thread - it was meant for FHM3

Agreed.
This aspect has been pretty damn annoying the last couple years. Much more akin to babysitting jealous two-year olds, the way they have it modeled.
I started playing in
"Classic" mode to get away from all that bullshit. But it's missing some of the special things (drafting in the MLS, rules, etc) and I don't think they bother adding such missing league aspects in new editions either. Probably not such a big deal if you're running European Leagues since it's based on their simple ones.
Nobody going to rain on my parade:) I am going to figure this game out this year and enjoy the darn thing one way or another!
As I alluded, it's easier to learn in 'Classic Mode'.
Cuts out all the team talk & media interview crap.

We'll see...not given up on full mode for me at the moment.....features are supposed to be announced tonight I believe so will be interesting to see what's different, if anything major.
Looks like features video out now....just watching myself
http://www.footballmanager.com/games/football-manager-2017#features
Skimmed through the video...seems like a bunch of changes, but no idea how impactful...they did mention 64-bit version of the game will be included, which can lead to faster processing and ability to have more leagues/players.
Sounds like beta version will be released within 24 hours...so much to play, so little time:)

+1
I think the series jumped the shark when they introduced half time team talks. The whole player relationships bit just grew off that feature like mold, or gangrene. I bought out of habit until 2014 but I didn't even pick up the last two in the steam bargain bin.
I still remember a game from CM01, bought a cheap player called Schilder who scored a goal a game for three years before injuring himself and losing whatever magical combination his average looking stats possessed. Spent 4 seasons hoping he would recapture it...I suppose I got the digital preview to Michael Owen. I can remember many moments from years ago, even through 10, but I don't remember any meaningful stories from 11 or 12 on.
I could take their opinionated nonsense super tactics: one year you had to have a 6'4 striker and do early crosses, one year you had to play 4-2-3-1 etc, but the nonsense of the personality system created so much noise it made getting through a season more like work than anything else. Not to mention that 20 years and goodness knows how many versions later, scouting and training never worked.
Give me contracts, scouting, tactics and stop pausing the game every day so I can get through a season in reasonable time, and for gods sake stop making every player in division 3 act like Adebayor or Anelka.
Beta available, not in process of installing.....not going to let anyone attempt to spoil my fun:)

I think it was 01 or 02 where pcZone printed THE tactic - a 532 Christmas tree with Robert prosinecki essential to the middle role. I played a 12 year game as Leeds and won everything - loooong before I knew about regens I built this team from regen ronaldo, shearer, seaman, and various Italian defenders an midfielders - my strikers were Scott ridgers (shearer) and a guy called Rai who I think was ronaldo or sonny Anderson regenned - 30 goals a season each - good times they were
Tonton Zola Moukoko now he was the man back in the day :)
Saw they added brexit impacts to the game....now that might be a little over the top and premature until it plays fully out in the real world:)
I always start on a lowly team with the intention of working up. I've never completed a season though.

Me neither...this is the year I learn this thing
Pffft you have no claim to glory until you've taken Harrogate to the champions league final and come home with the trophy
Into the premiership with a ground capacity of 4000, and spent the next 8 years adding 6000 seats a year - made a hole in the budget that did
A statue of me put outside the ground for 6 years running
Requested to be the part time manager of Brazil and won the World Cup whilst still managing the mighty Harrogate - no other football legend rivals my feats of awesomeness
I have had hearts of iron 3 on my hard drive for a good many years and have racked up 300 hours of play, I had fm12 on their for 6 months and racked up 500 hours - it's not healthy
officially released....never even got time to play during beta:(
Well alright, gonna go draft some players for my Seahawks.............wait a minute....is this that other football :2funny:
I fired up the touch version, and I've decided to take Tamworth for a spin in Conference North. 4 points out of the 1st 2 games, but have 2 injuries already. Not much depth in the team so if the injuries keep up it could be painful. Need to finish in the top 5 to meet expectations.
