I wonder what this will mean for the compatibility of all the existing mods.
Guess I will stick to my original with over 150 installed mods and will not bother with installing them once more. (a modded Skyrim might even look better than the new default edition)
Might finally knuckle down and play this now as I cannot afford Civ VI at the mo.....everything keeps breaking and needs replacing and taking wife and daughter on a mini cruise next week so funds at a minimum. Still Xams coming so will put CIV VI top of my list. Unless you lot pan it :)
^ I can't believe you haven't played Skyrim, man! That is probably my favorite game of all time...just an amazing experience. I so wish I could go through it again for the first time.
I haven't played it either! And I'm a huge RPG fan!
Too many years playing MMO's :D
Ok, if you're reading this thread and have not played Skyrim, I direct you to stop whatever it is you're doing and start playing it right now.
Man alive, it's so good. Your life is not complete if you haven't played it, believe me.
Don't tell him that. We'll never see him again. He'll be lost looking at sunsets or stealing silverware from some Lord's castle. It's got DRAGONS acctingman. So stay clear if you want to keep anything like a REAL life schedule. ;D
And its got a big update due later this month I think (28th?) although I think you have to own all the DLC to get it for free.

Can I tell this to my manager? :crazy2:
Curse you all!!
Ok gents. Direct me, when you can, do some good mods for the game. I have it in my Steam library (it counts for something that I at least own it, right?) O0

Is it recommend to use just one of those Steam workshop mods or can they all work together? Not much experience in using mods.
Thanks for the list Pete

I use over 100 workshop mods together without problems but modding can cause crashes.
Install a few and try the game. If it works, install some more and try it again.
The mod collections all should work together without issues.
Modding Skyrim can take some time and that is why I probably will stick with the old version.
All I have is the base and it looks like these mods (or most of them) have to have some of the expansions in order to work.
Good heavens, there are a lot of mods for this game!! :uglystupid2:
I like the mods that allow you to craft "Bags and Bandoleers" in order to carry more stuff. You'll need it. Also, the mod, "Followers Don't Die" so that your one follower that you can recruit won't die. Instead when their Hit Points go to zero, they just 'take-a knee' until the fight's over. Here's some old pics of my Player Home, "Slash Manor" and my Paladin-guy, "Sir Slash". Came-up with that name all by myself.
Well, I've never played it either. But with Civ 6 coming out this week that's not likely to change any time soon. ^-^

I highly recommend you follow the directions for modding here, at the S.T.E.P project: http://wiki.step-project.com/STEP:2.2.9.2
There's a similar project concentrating primarily on items called G.E.M.S., too. But the S.T.E.P instructions will teach you how to effectively mod, and give you a constantly player-tested base of mods that help make the gameworld look and act better. There are variations of mod paths in STEP for computers of various strengths, and/or for players who want to max their play experience with a minimum of modding.

Holy crap....that's a buttload of info! and mods
Looking it over, I guess you just choose which mods you want?
Thanks for that link.
Steam makes it easy. You just subscribe to the mod you want and it's automatically installed and up-dated if you choose the automatic up-dater function. You can go by user reviews to see what's popular or not and you can un-install any time you want. The Steam mods are somewhat limited in size so the mods on Nexus are usually larger and do more but less easy to install and up-date. Unless things have changed a lot since last I perused them. In my opinion, the game doesn't need much in the way of mods. It's pretty much perfect just the way it is. My 2 cents.
Agreed. It's pretty good vanilla, I wouldn't rush out to start modding necessarily. I finished it the first play through wit no mods.
Not going to start a Skyrim thread but I have to say.....
Why haven't I played this game until now? About to go kiss my wife and tell her we had a good run.
HOLY HELL......this game is gorgeous! O0
Sub'd to a few mods and they all seem to work (as far as I can tell) but the UI one doesn't work. I got a message saying something else wasn't update so the UI mod isn't working.
Lordy......I'm going to lose myself in this game aren't I? :crazy2:
Got the UI mod working....had to install Skyrim Script Extender
Ok....thanks all.....it was nice chatting with you. I'm going to disappear for like 6 months....BYE O0

This -- I played and finished it on a PS3, which couldn't even accept mods.

I don't usually play games that long, so racking up around 250 hours was a lot for me. Note that starting a Skyrim thread will take away your time from playing the game. >:D
Told you we wouldn't see acctingman again if we got him hooked onto this game. Now, if only I could do this with the In-Laws. ::) BTW Acctingman, if you're still there, forgot to mention that you can become a Werewolf and a Vampire Lord in this game too. Just in case you needed a little Meth to go with your Crack. :P

Well, free to me so no risk:)
I've seen several Grogs playing it on my little Steam alert windows this week. I'm more likely to try to get back into Witcher 1 myself sometime soon -- I've never gotten far in that game and the whole series is great, and I beat Skyrim a long time ago. Still, I'm naturally curious: I loved the game.
I've never played any of the Witcher series.
Recommend a noob to start with 1 first? (for story purposes)
Interesting article about this upgrade....the good and the bad, at least according to Rock/Paper/Shotgun.

I did, and will do, and I don't regret that choice; though of course I can't have an evaluation based on experience in hindsight.
That said, Witchy1 has some problems in its polish, including some weird graphic glitches, one of which I had to go into my NVidia control panel to tweak for settings unique to that game. (The sun shone transparently through the terrain.)

Start with the first one because you can buy it for next to nothing. You could jump into the third without knowing the story and you'd be fine.

Ultimately, I came damned closed to preferring the original. Not from some Paul Weller Fan purism, but because the two were so similar, save for a inspecific sense that the balance of brightness and sharpness seemed more comfortable on the original. Bloom, particularly, seems overdone in some Special Edition scenes, resulting in a greater sense of contrast and detail in the original.
In other words, they just did this edition to benefit the Console crowd.
Dropping in the Hi-Res pack as standard, and upping the accursed Depth Of Field and Bloom? Blech.
down the road the move to 64 bit will pay off once the modders get going. I didnt put much time into the original, but have noticed the bloominess :) in the remaster.
My son, who has spent about half of his 18 years playing Skyrim (or so it seems), tells me to ignore the Special Edition and play modded standard edition. I have both and Oblivion. I played the heck out of Morrowind, but I just have not been able to get into its successors, even though they are better looking.

The need for 64-bit and its ability to use more RAM kinda went out the window with the script extender memory patch. I went from going right on and over the old 3.5GB RAM limit down to ~500-600MB with it. Was already running a heavily modded game, I went all out after that I never got even close to the limit again.
My greatest fear about the SE was that they would update the scripting to the same format as FO4, which would have broken everything as far as mods and make converting mods a restart from the ground up. From what I've been reading/watching on YouTube, sounds like that's not what they did. With Tyranny on the horizon (only a few weeks left to go) going to be awhile before I jump into the SE in either case.
Just a heads-up: if you have been upgraded to the Special Edition, the original Skyrim no longer shows on your games list.
I'm assuming that we can't install both versions, which sucks, since my partner plays it on the second family PC we have that has only 4GB RAM.
Fixed.
I've got both versions installed on Steam right now. I'm still playing the older version until more MODs come out, but I've had no problem running both.

Figured how to install it.
It doesn't appear in your games lit, so you have to go to the store page, select Skyrim then click 'play' and it installs the old version.Fixed.
That's weird; I'm sure I saw both (uninstalled) on my games list... {checking}
Yep. The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim and below that the special edition.
What led me to look for it earlier, was that after it unlocked I saw it at the top of my quick-list.

Mystery solved.
It had been added to Favourites so it wasn't appearing on the main list.
