I honestly don't know what to think of this. It isn't the "Old Man Logan" story, except in a very superficial way. It already isn't in continuity anymore. He can't be passing the torch to X-23 (or whatever her name is) because this takes place in an alternate future.
On the other hand, the aesthetic seems like a good change of pace, and it's both nice and a little surprising to see PatStew returning for another (one last?) stab at Professor X. I like the trailer; I just question the relevance of the movie beyond "Hey, you like Jackman as Wolverine, right? Well this might be his last one!"
I liked it. Don't know what the hell I was watching. But, I liked it.

Same here.
I freely admit I don't know the lore, so that almost certainly helps. Still, what we did see looked good (I thought).
Why does Wolvie has so many scars and is so old?
Has his powers been taken away or are the scars from the Red Muramasa (spelling?) blade?
I'm definitely interested. Curious to see if they can pull off a superhero movie that seems to be aiming for a more serious vibe.
This might be the Wolverine movie I've always wanted
^^Hell yes.
In this film Wolverine faces the ULTIMATE villain...... Stan Lee. :knuppel2:

Time to pass the Titanium Claws.
Crazy to think he's been doing that role for 17 years.
Does this mean the sideburns have to go?
Have none of you seen this one yet?
THEN DO SO!!!!
Logan might just be the best superhero film (although I almost hesitate to call it that) I've ever seen. Perhaps fans of the comics would disagree, but I found it be an amazing piece of work.
Great drama, great action scenes. If this really was Jackman's last time playing the character, he couldn't have given it a better send-off.
I want to see it. The reviews have been very positive.

There's a reason for that. Do yourself a favor and go watch it this weekend. Seriously.
In Jackman's defense, Wolverine is VERY VERY VERRRRYYYY OBVIOUSLY a science-fiction werewolf. Except one made invulnerable by blessed silver (in effect) instead of vulnerable to it (but still vulnerable to it). Rages out, super-wolf senses, transformation. He was only called Wolverine as a Canadian touch, which led to him being short, too.
Went and saw it again last night. There's very few movies I feel compelled to watch more than once in the theater, but Logan is one of them. Something about this film strongly resonates with me.
If anyone hasn't yet seen this - you absolutely must if it's out. I don't know much of the X-Men world at all (I've seen people talking about Old Man Logan) - but this film - just as a film, a story - is fantastic.
It's my 3rd favourite movie, right behind Deadpool (1) and Guardians of the Galaxy (2).
Well said, JD. :)
Saw it tonight - exceptional
From his first scene Logan manages to portray such pain, just walking is suffering and you really feel for the poor guy, a true sense of him having had enough of life - it's heart breaking
Same with Charles - both of them just scream , 'please let it be over'
A very grim tale - and very violent and sweary compared to brightly coloured happy xmen of the past - one parent took his son out
I loved it, doesn't need to be in lore for me, don't care - just a film in its own right
Is this a stand alone movie with no links to the others, or is there a story that links this to other x-man/wolverine movies.

There are links to the previous movies.
Though apparently Jackman caused a shit storm by saying it wasn't in the same universe.

I was also under the impression that 'Old Man Logan' played out in an alternate reality.
I don't think it matters with that series considering how they rebooted it with the time travel.
By now, asking whether an X-Man film is in continuity is almost pointless. They're playing by anime rules: if it kinda suggests continuity, that's close enough, you should be enjoying the aesthetic and high concept ideas (and that they gave you anything new at all, you ingrates, etc. ::) )
Bob "Moviebob" Chipman made a good video commenting on a number of the thematics in the film. Heavy spoilers obvs.
That wasn't his official review, btw.

Why? :idiot2:
Watched Logan for the first time tonight; chose the b/w Noir version, and was not disappointed. (Also it toned down the ultraviolence a little, which I appreciated, although I also understood the desire to do a 'full' Wolvie film on the way out. Made me wish Joe Johnston's "Wolf Man" remake, which I quite liked in the director's cut, was available in "noir" mode instead of only what amounts to Hammer Gothic, great though that is.)
Jackman deserves at least an Oscar nod; not sure if Stewart was on screen enough to get a nod for Best Supporting, but the quality was there. And that new young actress has natural talent -- I wouldn't object to a Best Supporting nod toward her either.
Coincidentally, CinemaSins also releases its episode last night!
I spotted most of the plot-and-shot-composition problems, too. ;)
