Title: Lay down sleep my little FRIDAY
Post by: MetalDog on October 20, 2016, 10:40:46 PM

Picked up Guitar Hero for the first time in months tonight.  I was average on Hard.  Used to shred Expert pretty regular (all except the REALLY difficult songs).  Love that game for all the great songs and genres it opened my mind to.

As for gaming, it will probably be light this weekend.  Alabama/Texas A&M is on Saturday afternoon and Sunday is the NFL.  Started off fantasy football Week 7 with Randall Cobb going 11/95/1 with a handful of carries for 21 yards.  I pray that's a sign of the weekend to come.  Any gaming will be some Civ mp and Alea Jacta Est.

Band of Brothers:Ghost Panzers - get this Soviet onslaught completed.
F1 2016 - I kind of lost my mojo when I hit Monaco. I've just got to suck it up as a loss and get it done and get out of the hell hole.

Civ VI

Too many things to play, to little time and my wife using the main desktop most of the time!

On my Acer P3:

- Civilization V (not VI!): started a campaign as Korea....goal is to finish my first game of CIV V...ever. The touch option is really great (does CIV VI also have a touch option?).

- Stars in the Shadow: i have to see how will it runs (just installed it on my P3 with i3) but i'll need a mouse (not so easy when playing on the bed...the main desktop is in our bedroom).

On the main desktop:

- Master of Orion: an Alkari campaign

- Stellaris: finally starting to play the game.

I have found out anything printed on paper is such a drag to read. With Kindle, I can read with the Kindle itself, or pick up my iPad or even cell phone if I am stuck somewhere while say commuting or what not. I very much like most of boardgame 'living rules' are out as PDFs nowadays as well, so can load them to my iBook and Kindle libraries.

Weekends, I'm up at the farm with the wife and kids so DCS...maybe, though my daughter seems to have lost interest and my son prefers Battle of Moscow.  Maybe some Heros and Generals.
Reading -- Worlds Before Adam (Lyell is about to have a "secular" experience now that Charlotte and Murchison have taken the carriage back to Germany, leaving Lyell in Pompeii), The Predreadnought Revolution (HMS Warrior all over again) and the rules to By Shot, Shock and Faith (ou Par le feu, le fer et la foi).  Mordieu!

In typical fashion, I'm pounding away at World of Tanks and War Thunder sits over there and is all like, "hey...pssst....c'mere...don't you miss me?  Why don't you play me, hmmm?  Don't you remember your love of airplanes that brought you here in the first place?  Oh...and don't forget our tanks too. [makes kissy faces]"

Perhaps I'm just hallucinating things again.  I think I need help.

But, I don't know which is better in WT, killing an enemy fighter when he tries to head-on my Italian bomber (with forward facing .50) or sneaking through town in the dark while its raining in my Pz4 in "realistic," mode looking for T-34s to brew up and not be killed in return.

I've been so tied up with projects piled on my plate and am finally clear and I am jumping back in to getting my gamming on.  So this weekend will call for the following:

Wings Over Flanders Fields Ultimate Edition
HOI IV
Stellaris

Try to finish my game of Endless Legend......

Maybe I'll cave and purchase - play CIV 6 with the rest of the universe.....  ::)

I might grab Witcher 3 since it is on sale to celebrate a recent promotion (for some reason they feel I am now qualified to supervise people, who knew)
Actually playing, who knows. Was on Stellaris yesterday... Seems like the new patch has slowed down the early game quite a bit.

Also finally starting to get Dom 4. Still trying to get warland series. Overall though I have way too much crap that I don't play as it is so I really shouldn't get anything new.

No idea what I'm playing (other than probably finishing the PC version of Arkham Origins for the first time, and grinding away at Magic Duels).

Presumably I may be giving another day's worth of non-orders in Cyrano's forum KS game.  :))

The Microniece's birthday party should be Saturday morning at (up)Chuckee Cheese. That'll be fun so long as I go nowhere near their pizzas.  >:D Afterward, if I'm lucky, I can take her shopping at Lifeway for her baptism present, too (from late last month).

There's a headless horseman in Skyrim??

Army vs. N. Texas tomorrow morning @ USMA in the wind and rain. Then if I don't catch pneumonia going to Vermont with The Wife for a few days.

Somewhere in between there will be more The Witcher 3 and perhaps some Grim Dawn. Been playing The Witcher 3 for more than a month and haven't gotten bored yet though.

Glad to see so many wargames being played for a change.

I fired up Attila tonight, but decided instead to try some CK2 with the Game of Thrones mod on it...haven't tried that yet.

Gus, did you try Mercia in Attila?  That's where I was leaning to go with.  I can't get out of Britannia in any of these games it seems.  God I'm predictable.

Have to work a bunch of overtime this weekend, but hopefully will have time for the following.

Wings Over Flanders Fields: Ultimate Edition. Bought it a few months ago, but never had time to learn the game. Now I will.
The Golf Club. Getting ready for my first tournament for TGCTours.
Civilization V. Still on the sidelines for VI.

Taking the little lady to the Nimitz museum on Saturday and ASL on Sunday and next week I'm on vacation so planning on all kinds of gaming with a buddy that lives close by (we just played VITP so probably more of that and maybe Fire in the Sky).  I'm also in the mood for some modern miniatures stuff and have been reading the (very bloated) rules for Skirmish Sangin.

Non-wargaming related, some Puresim Baseball and probably a few rounds of Perfect Golf.

Mercia, while by no means impossible, is definitely tougher than I'd anticipated.  Those Welsh kingdoms are a real thorn in your side, never mind your fellow Saxons (whom you must of course eventually take out if you wish to expand beyond Britain).

Not getting Warhammer TW until I find a good price.

Mercia is in the Charlemagne campaign, Commander. Are you playing Charlemagne or the Grand Campaign?

I did play as the Celts in the Grand Campaign and got my arse handed to me. Great faction but very ornery neighbors. I have played the Charlemagne campaign only once but I'm going to play again very soon as the Lombards.

Well...working the weekend. Couple weeks ago I decided to grab Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 Enhanced Edition on sale. (Nice thing is GOG included the originals as well!) So I decided to give it a try. I'm liking it a lot. I can see why it's a classic.

I might boot up Stellaris and see how the Heinlein patch is too. As far as Leviathans, not entirely sure right now.

Otherwise that's really it.

Shadow Warrior 2 is pretty fun, very borderlandsish but the dick jokes get old FAST. Not getting Civ, find it pretty boring to be honest. Got an arma three mission, so gonna do that while drinking a bottle of the only red wine that doesnt make me gag

I've jumped into PBEM with CSME after decades of playing AI only. finished two already where i didnt even sniff a draw and have 3 going, 2 with Crossroads, 1 with Jason, talk about jumping into the deep end. Having fun get my little pixel troops used and abused, you figure out quick how lazy your play is when playing another person vs the AI. I'll fit in a visit to 7 days to die server to check hows things are going and maybe some Action PC football or golf.

Been dealing with a case of man flu this week. Due to work load and other people being gone I had to suffer at work the first half the week but was finally able to call out and rest Thursday and Friday. Which was fortunate because it let me dive into the new Stellaris patch and DLC.

Started an ironman (have come to regret this choice) as some Cat people. I set up the galaxy to have all races use warp line movement. Normally don't really like this style of movement, but it does make some of the otherwise worthless systems use full defensively if its a choke point. I had most of my arm to myself, and had started to expand into the next arm which only had one point of entry at the end. Things where going well. Then I decided to conquer some systems from a small empire that was pinned into a corner by me and another empire. Their fleet firepower ranking was equal but I had superior naval capacity and overall technology. They had a slight firepower edge in the first and only battle but my whole fleet disintegrated about 2 seconds after contact was made. That point I said **** it and deleted the save. Going to be starting a new game today using some mods now that most of the ones I normally use have been updated for the patch. Also thinking of doing my own ship mod. None of the ones I'm finding are really to my taste.

Keeping with the space theme for the weekend, I'll be continuing my journey to Bernard's Loop in Elite. I finally got around to configuring Voice Attack and damn is it cool. Configuring wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. Didn't have to change any of my HOTAS bindings like I feared. I think the only ones that I ended up changing where my bindings for the galaxy and system maps. Best $20 I've spent for a game addon in a long time.

Rounding out my weekend will be World of Warcraft and possibly a match or two of World of Warships.

Plus with real books you can hide shit in them. Like little stashes of cash from the wife, or dirty pictures of old girlfriends, 'secret' phone numbers, and those old, dead, dried-up lizards that get in your house to scare the crap out of the wife and kids with. And you can read them too.
