Whew...War Thunder seems to have broken my WoT addiction for now but it could be argued that I'm just comparing apples to another kind of apple - and I don't care!  I love my sexy tanks and planes!

Otherwise, I picked up a game called Day of Infamy that is an early access game on Steam that, I think, started out as a mod for Insurgency but which has grown to its own thing.  Very much like an updated version of Day of Defeat, this thing is delightfully brutal.  I also see Battlefield 1 on the horizon.

So, to sum up, its all about shooting things.  People, planes, or tanks.

Another weekend I'm not going to be around much.

Stellaris because patch
shadow warrior 2 because Wang
Witcher 3 because badass

And whatever else I may fit in. Rimworld and Stardew valley have been feeling neglected lately.

Three Halloween parties tomorrow, so lots of drinking and eating junk food.

If I can manage the time, Titanfall 2, Battlefield 1, Civ VI, DCS (want to get really good at A2A in the Eagle), maybe a touch of Elite and definitely some VR in Onward!

Elite: The Orion and Bernards Loop nebula's fill my entire view now. Arrived there earlier this week. Going to take some time and thoroughly explore the area and take a ton of video and screenshots before I move on. Thinking of heading to Colonia with a stop at Sagitarius on the way there.

Stellaris: Continue work on my ship mod. Have a new campaign going with some mods included as well.

World of Warcraft: World Quests and grinding dungeons. Hoping I can get the rare Halloween mount before it disappears for another year.

Crusader Kings 2: Started a new campaign as the Hapsburg's in the 1066 start the other day, with the intent to write an AAR. Unfortunately with work and other distractions (Elite and WoW) I haven't made much progress.

Tomorrow will be the traditional family pumpkin patch and pumpkin carving day. I'll shall win the family pumpkin carving contest and be a back to back champion..muhahahaa... I still have to find my winning design, the kids have stepped up there game each year and my 9 year old showed scary patience in last years carving which was her first with the sharp instruments. One slip of the blade could ruin you, the tension, the drama...good fun. The gaming isnt decided quite yet, too many choices. There will be [hopefully] CSME PBEM as my lessons in humility continue. After that...hmmm.. reloaded COH with the Matrix steam release, Flashpoint was updated so i could go there. Just bought project Zomboid a few days ago in honor of the season, played a bit and im pretty up to speed with the basics. Skyrim remastered just released, got off a double shift and downloaded and installed it, man i love broadband downloaded in 7 minutes during the wee hours of the morning. Shamefully I havent played the game much at all, so might get lost in that. A game i have wanted to play for awhile but with securom i never bought it, Cysis is at GOG now, drm free and on sale, I'll probably break and get it. So basically no idea :D

You made me look that up!  Wikipedia says they are the quietest conure but I can see where 7 of them will make up for that.  You'll wake up thinking you're in a tropical rainforest.

I'm in a retro gaming mood having just finished off Imperialism 2 and just starting Civ4.  This while having over a dozen gaming shortcuts on my desktop that haven't been investigated sufficiently.

Finally pulled myself away from Witcher 3 for a bit to jump back into Grim Dawn for a bit after a year and I have to say it looks and plays beautifully compared to where I left off. A Charlemagne campaign in Attila TW looms large as well. Also resisting the urge to buy the new titles that JH listed above like Titanfall 2, BF1, etc. and copious amounts of drinking and Halloween merrymaking.

Well...working the weekend. No biggie, I just work in the mornings home by noon.

I am currently playing Baldur's Gate EE- having some fun with that.

Maybe..maybe looking at Stellaris since Heinlein.

Might see into that Steam Sale, or even GOG.com has a sale too.  Noticed the Skyrim update, but interestingly I don't have to worry as I can get the other DLCs. System is just too old to run the new version.

Congrats Hofstadler on becoming a new Father. Not much gaming time this weekend--very busy. What time I get I plan on spending in Pillars of Eternity where I just managed to discover the White Forge under Durgan's Battery. And here's what it looks like (see screenie below)  Now.... how do I turn this damned thing on? Hope I don't have to go to the other end to find the 'on' switch.  ;D

If I have time for things other than partying and drinking, I will certainly be spending more hours with Stellaris and Warhammer Total War.

my retro friday fun was to fire up Blue Max Aces of the Great War. 360 Pacific had some great games and this i think was one of them for sure. Perhaps not as good as Red Baron, but it runs more smoothly i find and the air battles get really close quarter and you could pan your view up and done and left-right easily

Nice!  Feel free to share your experiences playing as them if you do.  I've looked at the Lombards before, but have admittedly been intimidated by their starting position (and the fact that Chucky is more or less gunning for them).

It's good to switch between the apples and the other apples on occasion.  Keeps each from getting too stale.

I also toss in the occasional Armored Warfare (new big ass maps coming soon iirc), when I'm at these types of casual MP games.  O0

Edit:  I've always enjoyed War Thunder, despite some very scattered flight & damage modelling in places.  Started years ago, while the Air Forces was still in Closed Beta, even.  My biggest complaint is that they've steadily increased the grind, over the years.  Including adding the exceptionally painful module upgrade system during that time, which gives me much headache in air forces Realistic Battles because it takes so damn long to grind them out, nowadays, and the difference between a new non-upgraded aircraft, and one with most or all of the modules, is massive.

Mostly spent today at the nieces, watching them watch Raiders of the Lost Ark for the first time with the Bro and Dad, while Ishy (the sister-in-law) and Mom worked on crafty stuff in the other room. Then we went to eat at a ridiculously expensive new French-ish restaurant for Mom's birthday. She had asked for Killing Japan from O'Reilly, so that's what I got her. Mom's actually a little more into military history than Dad!  8)

Otherwise, I'm working on a new narrative AAR project this weekend, on a game I tried to get into years ago because I loved the first version dearly (still do) but just couldn't get into the much-upgraded second version. I still don't know why, but having found version 6 of a new unofficial fanbase patch, I've played the first turn and also the first battle this morning.

I'm being cagey about the game of course.  ^-^ If things go well, y'all will know it later.

Truth.

If I'm unable to make any progress with Mercia, I may give the Emirate of Cordoba a go the next time around.  I've heard they're a pretty decent faction to play as.

Title: Re: Friday's Dance
Post by: Gusington on October 30, 2016, 09:31:21 PM
Yeah there are some good Córdoba AARs on he web.

As Mercia my guess would be to use the whole of the British Isles as your 'base' as in previous TWs...I don't know if taking over all the isles would hand you a minor victory though. My guess is no.
Title: Re: Friday's Dance
Post by: Martok on October 30, 2016, 11:50:07 PM
Probably not.  As Mercia, you do get handed the objective of forming England, which (at the very least) involves taking over Northumbria and Wessex, but I don't believe that counts as an actual victory condition.

I'm enjoying it a lot. Its got a fully featured single player campaign this time around, in addition to the MP modes. The campaign is very well done, and is definitely more than just a MP training mode. The maps are beautiful, and the weapons are very satisfying to use and shoot. Some of the maps are a little more "puzzle-like" than I would prefer, but I get that they are trying to showcase the parkour elements that are so heavily featured in the game.

I haven't tried any MP games yet, but I will eventually once I'm finished with the campaign. I do wish it had some SP skirmish modes against bots, but that does not appear to be included.

Definitely.

The learning curve for the Su-25T is mostly about weapons employment IMO.  Luckily, most of them use the same laser guidance system.

Talking about weapons, I noticed one of the weapons I was using "as a pilot" had a particular "tinny" sound when getting to the last few rounds of the mag - just like Rl...I thought that was a pretty cool example of attention to detail.

I agree with JH. Very satisfying so far and amazing graphics.
